  • This wine still feels a bit monolithic. Had 2 glasses for two nights running, and each night it never seemed to show much until the fruit and savoriness got revealed on the last few sips. I'm thinking to hold yet a few more years.

  • Holy crap this bottle is finally ready. These have been surly and funky with hard tannins and rather angular, but a swan finally emerged after 16 years. Of course the next one will probably bite :-).

  • Bright and juicy, but on the green side. Energetic, but underripe. Excellent with food. Questionable on its own.

  • Good for the non-fruit forward, herbal sort of stem tasting French pinot. I like the wine. Better a couple years ago. Not a crowd pleaser, but an interesting style of pinot.

  • Best showing yet for this wine. Fragrant, complex cherry with some mineral notes and spice. Tannins very fine. Good length and body.

Really a different wine than my first bottle of this just 4 years ago. Have a single bottle of my original 6. Should make 2022. I gave this an hour decant and would do so again.

  • My last bottle from the 2005 vintage. It was very enjoyable with nice cherry fruit, good acidity, minerality and a medium finish. It was a joy to drink.

  • PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs, bottle from secondary market
    -med dark red minimal clearing
-full black cherry apple peel stone, nose intensifies in the empty glass with the addition of a tobacco element
-med acidity, suave med/med- weight with exquisite balance and focused power, reserved black cherry fruit earthy minerality and a mildly creamy top note, med/med- soft ripe tannins lead into a long gentle finish
-this bottle showing better than one a few years ago, very dark for a Guillemot in keeping with the vintage (as well as the beautiful balance), somewhat open but still sitting on more potential, opened this a couple years too early!

  • This starts with an earthy and spice nose. It is a medium to borderline light bodied wine. It fills the palate with earthy fruit balanced with spice and stems and a hint of flowers. Nice soft, aged tannins and acid structure. Could last many years to come. It tastes young for a 13 year old wine. A long floral-herbal finish. Not your typical pinot and not overly fruity, but excellent with a mix of earth, spice, floral and tannins.

  • This wine is very consistent with nice tart cherry fruit and good minerality and acidity. I think the fruit is starting to fade, so it is probably a good time to enjoy this vintage.

  • Same notes as the last few bottles as it has a pretty crimson color and a modest nose of red violets. The wine is light bodied with lovely strawberry and sour cherry fruit. The acidity is balanced with the fruit and there’s really nice minerality. The wine has a full mouthfeel and a medium finish. It is very easy to drink.

This is the antithesis of a California fruit bomb.

  • First of six. Didn't get to spend much time with it. Seemed less open than a 2005 Narbantons opened a few weeks ago, but my read is it is entering its drinking window. Will probably hold off myself for a year or so before drinking the next one.

  • in mature form- with dried berries, flowers and exotic spice aromas, complete and inviting from entrance onto the palate to the finish, velvet in texture, earthy and dry, flavors of dried cherry, black tea, stone and dragon fruit emerge but the wine does not present itself as complex, but as a simple declaration of terroir that is hard to stop sipping, drinking well now but still no rush

  • Decanted 1 hour. Translucent garnet. Cherry bouquet with hints of spice. Lively on entry, expanding quickly to a medium bodied cherry dominated mid-palate. Acidity is a touch shrill but this bottle is considerably better balanced than my others to date. Surprising to pick up some sweetness in the wine tonight and this wine was showing much more fruit than previously. Tannins are mostly integrated although there is still a fine, drying grip here that also throws the balance out.

Overall a considerably better balanced wine to my last look in 2015. I think this wine benefited from the decant and will continue - hopefully - to improve over the next 3-5 years.

  • Light red to tawny. This was very much like a bottle tasted late last year, starting earthy, dry, and sinewy. Over an hour, it perked up, showing some strawberry and spice with a medium body. Cranberry acidity was a bit severe, though, and the tannins continued to have a dry, grainy quality. Drinkable but just not very enjoyable. Old style Savigny, which I don't see having the potential for positive development at this point.

  • Getting better, much better ...

  • Medium red to the rim. Lots of soil, less red fruit on the nose. It started earthy, dry, and fruitless, right on the cusp of "dirty" as opposed to "earthy". Some smoke, herb, pomegranate, and dark cherry came up in a high acid/tannic framework. Not much charm or softness. The kind of wine that could reasonably make one ask "Whither the 2005's"? This bottle (a recent library release from the domain) certainly seemed past its prime.

Slightly more tart fruit showing the second night, but still very earthy, grainy, and dry at the end.

  • The wine has a nice crimson color and a lovely Pinot nose. At 11 years old, it has lovely red fruit, including a little sour cherry, minerality and green tea. It is a light to medium bodied wine with balanced acidity and some years to go.

  • Pop n' poured, so I am interested in how this wine evolves this evening. The subtle nose gives some red violets. It has a medium red or crimson color to it. Very soft, light red fruit and really soft tannins. It does have a sour cherry component to it and maybe some green tea flavors. I think the acidity is in check and it has a nice minerality to it.

As this was open for a couple of hours, the wine became richer and more complex. I upped the score slightly.

  • Much darker color than the 13 opened next to it. There's a gauzy / menthol edge to the red fruit - a touch of alcohol? Decent concentration and a little less acid than I would like.

The tannins were a little offputting. Also a little bite on the finish. Not sure if this is a 2005 thing or a wood influence thing. Curious to see whether the fruit will still be there once they wear off. Holding my last bottle for at least ten years.

  • PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs and day 2; bottle from secondary market
-nearly semi-translucent dark red with minimal bricking
    -moderately expressive somber earth berry
-med+ acidity, relatively non expressive dominant earth med concentration trace medicinal beetroot, respectably long finish with bitter med+ chalky tannins; bitter and sour predominate on day 2
-a bit more rusticity than typical for the vintage or producer, this either needs more air, more time, or may be a bit flawed (?VA)

  • Opened an hour prior. Pale crimson with some bricking. Pronounced acidic bouquet with some ammonia and metallic notes mingling with the fruit. Light entry, rather aerien despite the bouquet. Dark cherry set against a fine tannin framework with some drying astringency on the final. Acidity a bit too high and mars the balance here.

This drinks better with food and is probably as evolved as it will become. No rush to drink but I wonder if there will be any further upside here. Could decant future bottles.

  • Strong metallic flavors dominate the fruit. Faint aromas of cherries.

  • Not impressed. Definitely not the right day for this wine. Past it's prime? It's limpid flavors made for a very forgettable experience.

  • I did not rate this wine, because I opened it way too early -- but I had to try my first bottle to see what's in it and to determine when to drink it. It's safe to say that this wine has amazing potential, especially for the price!!!! However, I would not touch this until 2012. The nose is very typical of a young burgundy, with floral notes and fresh fruit coming through. Which is true also for the flavor profile on the palate. And the flavors are present from the beginning throughout the long, long finish - which was surprising to me. However, the tannins are still pretty dominating and crowd out all the beautiful flavors. "Tart" is the correct word, used already to describe this wine. (I corked the bottle and tried again the next day. The tartness had diminished only slightly, so its not going to help to decant for 24 hours.) However, in 4-5 years, when the tannins are a bit more integrated, this wine will shine and will be amazing. So, be patient, and I am convinced that you will be rewarded in 5+ years.

  • With dinner at Marche Moderne. Early in the evening showed tart red fruit, but well balanced. As the evening wore on, began to show more complexity, with the tartness diminishing and the earthiness coming forward. In five or so years, this will be even better. 4.0

  • Medium red. This had garrigue-like herb qualities and wild red fruit tones that reminded me of fraises des bois. Light to medium bodied, lively, and the strawberry quality carries over to the mouth, with a briary twist to the finish that seems so typical of Savigny. Interesting, somewhat exotic, and good.

  • 2005 Burgundy Overachievers Tasting (Vineyardgate): Lifted nose of bright, estery ripe red berries, with notes of strawberry liqueur and tree bark. Palate is mostly closed down, giving a watery, light-bodied mouthfeel, but one can discern good freshness and well balanced acidity. Comes to life on the back palate, with more red berries and earth. Some very subtle, slightly astringent tannin hides the finish, but some earthy flavors linger on the palate. A quite good wine hiding here, i think.
