  • A blend of Sauvignon Blanc (2/3) and Sémillon (1/3), fermented and aged for 12 months in new oak barriques. 13% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Quite deep and moderately concentrated burnished golden yellow color. Big and toasty nose with bold aromas of popcorn, honey and grilled pineapple, some toasty oak spice, a little bit of smoky character, light notes of beeswax, a hint of bruised apple and a touch of wizened nectarine. The wine is rich, oily and quite full-bodied on the palate with complex, toasty yet quite crunchy flavors of stony minerality, apple peel bitterness, some browned butter, a little bit of ripe pineapple, light popcorn notes, toasty hints of nutty oak and smoke and a touch of tangy salinity. The acidity feels at first moderately high, but it seems to grow in intensity towards the aftertaste. The lengthy finish is crisp, powerful and moderately toasty with intense flavors of nutty oak and popcorn, tart green apples, some pithy notes of grapefruit, a little bit of browned butter, light stony mineral nuances, a hint of grilled pineapple and a touch of creaminess.

A wonderfully evolved, powerful and remarkably balanced Pessac-Léognan white that is obviously quite toasty and oak-driven in style, but carries it remarkably well. The wine doesn't feel that woody or overdone, since the oakiest nuances have already integrated with the fruit and the fruit department has evolved nicely into tertiary ntoes of grilled pineapple and dried fruits so that they intermingle with the oaky nuances remarkably well. Furthermore, the wine retains a wonderfully zippy acid core of citrus fruits and green apples that keep the wine fresh, brisk and full of pep, despite the rich, tertiary and moderately oak-influenced flavors. A very complete wine that shows how well these oak-heavy Bordeaux whites can perform if just given enough time. Excellent!

  • Drank casually with starters at dinner party so no deeper analysis. Aromas of over-ripe apples, caramel, roasted hazelnuts and lemon. Flavors of yellow apples, caramel, squeezed lemon and some more hazelnut in the background. It is good, composed and fairly developed but with really good lift and freshness.

  • Records show that this was drunk in 2014. Nope. I agree with the previous poster that this wine is past it's prime but I would still say that it was fun to drink. 14 year old white wine? Come on. Definitely drink them soon but take the time to think about and enjoy.

  • A: Medium amber
N: medium (+) Nose. Hazelnuts, fig, quince jam, browned yellow apple (acetaldehyde), clove, dried orange skin, toast and smoke. Fully developed.
P: Dry, medium (+) acid, medium alcohol, full body, medium (+) intensity and medium (+) finish.
C: Past its best for sure but if you want the hallmarks of full fruit development, here it is. A LEARNING wine. Not one to enjoy.

  • Very nice bottle bdx which reinstated my confidence in white bdx after some fawlty bottles. Yellow apples, sunripe lemons, beeswax, browned butter and a hint of saffron on the nose. Caramelized lemon and apples with saffron and some apricots in the finish. Fully mature and medium acidity with still nice fruit - will drink my remaining bottle latest 2020.

  • Quite dark yellow. In the bouquet limestone minerals and some honey impressions. On the palate a concentrated wine with some (not negative) medicine impressions, nuts and citrus. With more air time the wine improved considerably; became more pleasant and complex.

  • Drank with food rather than tasted but it was an amazing bottle!
Complex taste of grilled lemon, flint/faint smoke, hay, beeswax(?) with just a touch of oak.
Viscous mouthfeel at first that the which was perfectly counterbalanced by the acidity.

Will certainly last for a few more years but I can't see much point in waiting!

  • Color: golden yellow. Taste: some fruit. some acidity, vanilla and many other oak-tones, that were rather integrated. Quite complex, not bad, but with its lack of fruit over its top. Not rated.

  • BOB (Ramirez's): Nose of citrus and fresh mown hay. Papaya notes lingering on the edges. Get a touch of wood on the nose also.
A rich mouthfeel, but with a really nice acidity to give it balance. Lime citrus flavors and spicy white pepper. Long finish.

  • Tasted blind: There was considerable discussion over whether or not this wine was corked. I didn't believe so (and am usually very sensitive to tca), it was just funky to me. Notes of barnyard and a bit fecal, a bit odd and out of whack. It had some nice underlying notes of stones, tamarin and hazelnut.

  • A medium yellow-gold. Aromas of white ripe fruits, toast, toasty oak and smoke. More full-bodied than the '05 Chablis les Preuses, without the focus or complexity.

  • Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux (Dallas): Chalky nose. Little smokiness, good but oak is a little too apparent for me.

  • Union des Grand Crus 2005 & 2006 Bordeaux Tasting - NYC (Lighthouse, NYC): Less aromatic than the other whites.
