Dark red color with slow legs. After 2 hour decant, oak, berry and a little cassis on the nose. Blackberry, plum and chocolate on the palate. Medium silky finish. Not sure if this will get better with age. Enjoyable wine but not meeting the price point right now.

My wife and I found the 2019 Caymus Cab to be big, almost overripe, pure, round, and delicious. Not complex, not subtle, not a wine to analyze and discuss. Just a wine to enjoy drinking. A textbook Napa cab. There is a place for wines like that. It is ready to drink but should hold its form for several more years.

Just a beautiful wine. Dark plum color, almost black. The nose is resplendent with blackberries and blueberries with a wiff of alcohol. The first tastes are a fruit bomb of blackberries, blueberries, bing cherries and ripe plums. The mid-palate brings in a lovely oak and mildly grippy tannins with a warmth of alcohol. Everything then blends perfectly into a spectacular finish.
Perfectly balanced in every way. It leaves you wanting more.

Tasted tonight against the 2012. It seemed a totally unfair comparison, the 2012 beat the 2019 to a pulp. Compared to the 2012, the 2019 was thinner, yet sweeter, and the acidity was flat - in contrast to the excellent vibrance and freshness of the 2012. Visually, the 2012 was denser, and dark purple to the rim, whereas the 2019 lightened noticeably at the edges.

On the nose this wine is overwhelming vegetal. On the palate, dark silky fruit with complete integration of acid and tannin. The finish is short. Overall, the palate is beautiful, however I have mixed feelings with the overwhelming vegetal aromas. This is definitely a crowd pleaser and meant to be consumed young.

Bought two 1L bottles upon release and have been reading all the reviews so I decided to open one to see for myself. Might I add I’ve been drinking Caymus for almost 20 years…this was terrible. Nothing like what it used to be. Zero secondary flavors no depth or concentration. Doesn’t even taste like a Cab from Napa. I definitely wouldn’t pair this wine with a steak. It tasted like a 15$ bottle of wine that definitely doesn’t have decades of history. I won’t be purchasing any Caymus anytime soon which disappoints me. I will be donating the second bottle to my kids school auction. Hopefully the Wagner family can turn this around and bring it back to the iconic wine it used to be instead of worrying about how many bottles they can produce.
Agree with most other comments. Really expensive for what this is and compares to other smaller Napa producers at half the price. Short finish, easy drinking, no complexity. This vintage is ready now and will not get better with age in my opinion.

Disappointing for Caymus. Fruit bomb with good flavor up front but not much structure underneath. The finish is pretty short, as is the likely shelf life for this bottle. Not enough acidity or tannins to last. If you own it, drink it now, it's not getting any better.

Caymus is the most controversial wine in this community (I think). I haven't drank much since it shot up to the $70-80 range, but to be honest, for Napa cabs this isn't out of line. That said, I enjoyed drinking this because the tannins are under control. Maybe it's the oak overwhelming it, but flavors were good and I just enjoyed drinking it.

In a word, over extracted grape juice. Caymus has been on a steady spiral downward while their prices continue to escalate. This is NOT worth $100! The 1994 Caymus that sold for $25 was head and heels above this mess. But as long as there are buyers who have bought into the hype, the winery will continue to make this jammy mess.

Sweet, concentrated blackberry, black cherry and vanilla on the aroma with a similar flavor character. Body is full. Acidity is medium-plus. Tannin is medium-plus, mostly from the oak. Overall, its a pleasant wine, but its over priced. Nothing special.

What a waste of almost $100US. way over oaked and the fruit flavor is completely cooked, concentrated juice like. This might as well be a home made kit wine. Zero grape tannins. Acid is just enough to wash the wine down. Very disappointing
Deep dark reddish-purple; almost opaque. Full, forward & fragrant nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, boysenberries & plums overlayed with sweet vanilla & oak overtones, smoky, some spice notes & dark cocoa/mocha. Full bodied with a good concentration of unbalanced & smooth textured, rich, ripe, plummy fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries & cassis dominated by oak/vanilla, spices, herbs, cherry-cola & dark chocolate. A bit soft in the middle; could have used more acidity. Drinks quite well with decanting & airing & might develop further with additional aging but it appears to be made for the short haul. I question its age-ability given a high PH & lack of varietal focus. It may be a bit over the top for some with the combination of sweet fruit (over-ripe, over extracted or both?), toasted oak & vanilla overtones. Poor QPR for what appears to be the quality of an entry level Cab.
Based on my experience with prior Caymus vintages (my tasting notes are posted here), I concur with the opinions of others noting that the quality of the current vintages are not on par with earlier ones, especially for the price. There are other wines out there which are a better quality at a lesser price point. I would note Quilt Cabernets which taste similar (actually, better) and at a lower price (tasting notes of which are posted here as well).

A colleague recommended this wine, and I have seen it repeatedly in restaurants, so I thought I would give it a try. Apparently, Caymus got its start in 1972 when a home winemaker produced 250 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Fifty years later, the same family still owns this winery in the Rutherford district of Napa Valley. They take steps to stress the vines, to include removing excess clusters to reduce yield and limiting (and sometimes eliminating altogether) irrigation. Between these farming practices and the terroir of Rutherford, the winery has a long history of producing top notch wines that have earned it quite the reputation.
Deep ruby in color, this wine is rather aromatic, offering a rich nose full of dark fruits, potting soil, tobacco and a cigar box note likely due to its time in oak. Upon sipping, one is met with a full-bodied wine with aggressive tannins and moderate acidity. The attack features muted dark fruits that lead to a blast of austere tannins, and these are soon met on the midpalate by black currant, blackberry jam, and ripe red cherry overlaying a substrate of cocoa powder, black coffee, potting soil and oaky vanilla. The fairly long finish starts off with dark chocolate and oaky vanilla before seeing a resurgence of the dark fruit mix that gradually fades away after a minute or so to leave a lingering tannic dryness.
Overall, this is a competently made wine and quite tasty, but it is a typical Napa cab that brings nothing new to the table. Big and over-ripe, it is a stereotype, and they overdid the oak; the tannins are ostentatious and are not well-integrated into the wine. Don’t get me wrong, this is certainly an enjoyable wine, but I would rather have the complexity of a Cakebread cab or one the more supple, more deeply expressive cabs from Paso Robles such as those from Daou, Venteux and Eberle. While I enjoyed this wine, it is not worth the hype and I do not plan on buying it again, as there are better cabs out there for the same price point.
On the bright side, this wine went very well with the grilled steak my wife prepared for dinner!

30 min decant and 1 liter bottle. Dark fruits on the nose followed by back current, stewed plums and blackberries with a slight pepper note. Fairly short finish and ok mouthfeel. Easy drinking with almost no tannins but there was nothing about this bottle that would justify its price. Did not seem to get any better over the course of several hours. Seemed like a solid 30--40$ wine, not one pushing triple digits. Others seemed to enjoy it more than I and the bottle disappeared fairly quickly. I enjoyed the last bottle I had of caymus much more than this one. Perhaps it needs more time?

In the 1990's Caymus was a decent cab for $25. Now it's a sub-par cab over 3x that price. Simple entry level cab that has very sweet notes, little structure or complexity, and hardly any finish. Dull and flat flavors. Probably the worst QPR of any wine in CA. Little difference from Apothetic Red. I'm glad it was a gift.

Very easy going, simple wine for the masses. It’s great to get you to start to like red wines, but then you graduate to better bottles. Lots of ripe plums, cherries, and milk chocolate. Soft. Ripe. Low acidity. Low tannins. Simple syrup!
Drank with Lisa and Granny May 2, 2022 day Lindz called and lost her NY job and Gavin in San Antonio on business Aaron at Granny working in her house cuz he had covid a week ago so mot at our house we had curry for dinner
So, like my last bottle a year ago, this vintage is definitely less bombastic and not overblown like other vintages from the past 6+ years. It is flavorful but not over the top. Sweetness has faded a bit. Body is actually a bit thin. Smooth finish but on the shorter side. Crowd pleaser.

True to the Caymus style. Sweet plum and vanilla dominate. Very low acidity, minimal tannin, straight-forward finish, limited in complexity. Not my favorite style of Napa cab, but a style that I expect finds a wide audience. I have had a few bottles of Caymus over the years and I am impressed with their ability to deliver a consistent profile regardless of vintage in a large production wine.

I found this to be a horrid Caymus. Huge fan of Caymus in the past. Even just gave a few of these 19s as gifts (ugh) without trying. Haven’t had the Napa in a few years but this drinks like a $15 bottle of cab. Soft, no acidity, candy flavors, almost phony tasting oak. Yuck.

Pleasant enough to drink, but so unremarkable and undistinguishable as a CS, as I was getting more notes of red fruits like cherries and strawberries on the palate as opposed to black and blue fruits. Also, it had low tannins and low to medium acidity. The most noticeable quality is this "fruit punch" flavoring and it just makes think "huh?" as you ponder about the meaning of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from an iconic producer.

Color of dates, nice legs, quality fruit. It instantly makes you feel good. A lot of oak, blackberry, vanilla, very catchy, however we do admit you will get tired of it if you drink too much of it. Almost like you can drink it without food, so good by itself. Because of the strong note you might get tired of it after 2/3 way into the bottle. However, for every 65- rating, which is absolute bias dishonesty against the "style", we therefore rate 99 in response to a good style for what it is.

I spied this on my daughters wine rack on Christmas Eve. It was a present from a customer to my son-in-law. We opened it for a special steak dinner on Christmas day with great anticipation. A first for us, we couldn’t even finish the bottle. Out of four of us no one could really stand it. It reminded me of the manufactured $16 Cali zinfandels a friend of mine always serves - even had the same berry flavor. There wasn’t much to it when I opened it and after decanting it for over an hour it really didn’t improve.Very weak tannins,Too sweet, way too strong berry flavor, And the oak was out of balance. I feel sorry for the poor grapes because this is certainly not what I believe they thought they were going to turn into.

After the fact so no detailed notes; delivers what you expect from a wine that’s 50k+ cases, unless (as others note) it’s been 10 years since you last tried their Napa Cab.
Fruit driven without a lot of nuance or depth. Reasonable wine, but there’s A LOT at this price point that outperforms this.
It wasn’t horrible to me, it was decent. Lots of dark fruit, light tannin, I got some good nose, but no wow factor. not like Caymus of a few years back. No where near a $100-wine. Very low QPR.

So Caymus is now making wine koolaid? This was one of the worst examples of the California trend towards mediocre over-ripened fruit bombs. Seriously, if I tasted this blind I would've written it off as a two-buck Chuck offering, with apologies to two-buck Chuck. Must to avoid until Caymus resumes quality wine making.

Rich, jammy, dark red fruits -- currant, dark berries. Nose casts a silky drape of licorice, berry, and balsamic. Smooth in keeping with the reputation. Built to be a crowd pleaser. (Compared this night to the Hall Cab 2017. Both great. The Hall was darker, broodier, chewier of the two. The nose of the Caymus had comparably bright fruit notes.)

First time I've tasted any sort of Caymus, as I had been expecting it not to be my style. It's such a famous brand though I had to give it a chance. With any luck it will be the last.
Ludicrously over-concentrated, syrupy and way over-oaked. Over-everything in fact. Little acidity. Totally manipulated and concocted to the point where it can no longer even be recognized as Cabernet. Half a glass was more than enough.
I REALLY hated this, and it's rare I really hate a wine. If this was $12 I would consider it overpriced. $75 is just insulting.

Good color, clarity and body. Upfront a soft mouth feel, middle to end dried fruits particularly cranberry. The finish was nice but there was not another layer of flavors like other vintages. I enjoyed it but this fell short compared to other vintages.

Nose: Massive nose of blackberry jam, fig, anise and cocoa. Dark and roasty coffee notes. Palate: dense entry with jammy black fruit and spices. Star anise, cinnamon and tarry oak notes. Somewhat hollow. Finish: heat, scorched bell peppers and more jammy fig notes.
Just feels very manipulated and heavily oaked. Does not really resemble the wines of the 90s.

Opened 2 hours prior, Sweet black and some blue fruits followed by a cloying sweet vanilla finish that was over the top. Seemed kind of thin for a Cab and Cousin Pudge and Ray also noticed the cloying vanilla on the finish. Bad qpr, seems like a wine for Caymus loyalist who prefer this style. The Baer Arctos that followed and compared to side by side was much better at half the price.

Drank a 375 at 60 degrees. Smooth and ripe, with no bitterness on the finish. Cinnamon. Concentrated, syrupy boysenberry. Vanilla. Hint of Chinese numbing spice at the end. Better than the average Caymus.
Once again distinctly a Caymus. Wine starts with that Typically Caymus fruit forward and sweet. Did't see this lasting but tonight it did. Drank from a liter bottle and I must say that it is a mouthfeel of creamy dark juice and a sweetish back end.

Nose: Oak. Jammy fruit. Medium plus intensity.
Palate: Jammy fruit. Vanilla. Blueberry. Medium minus acidity. Medium minus tannins. Full body. Medium plus intensity. Medium finish.
No structure to the wine. Lacks complexity, dominated by jam and oak.

12 year anniversary wine. My last vintage of Caymus was 2002 and I thought it was epic.
Color. Not super saturated purple. But still inky.
Nose. Oozing cassis, rhubarb, cherry, touch of oak.
Palate. Delicate fruit and balanced tannins. A little RS going on here, which is off-putting.
Honestly there's better vintages of this wine. And its not worth the asking price.
