The 2019 Chateau Catemerle is outstanding, best Cantemerle ever in my opinion, surpasses the 2016, 2010, and 1989. It is elegant and nuanced, balanced, classy, I love the 13.5% alcohol level in this generally high alcohol vintage. At $28USD, I am planning on buying two more cases. Very smooth, light on its feet. Yet another left bank gem from 2019. Outstanding. Rating: 95 points.

Flowers, cassis and black fruit nose plus some wet earth and cedar. The palate is boysenberry, blackberry and hints of anise and camphor. The tannins and acidity are sturdy but not too woody. Accessible already with some decanting this will be excellent for another decade.

Deep garnet. Black cherry and wet stone on the nose. In the mouth, red fruit with medium acidity on entry. Balanced mouthfeel with ripe integrated tannins in the mid. Acidity makes a second gasp in the finish with cranberry, cocoa powder, faint dusting of salt.

30 min in glass: deep crimson color. On the nose: not sure how to describe it, spicy? on the palate: tannic, red fruit, acidic. Very fresh. Too tannic, nor enough of the dark character I am looking for. After 4.5 hours in decanter: the tannins and acidity calmed down. smooth now. Nice bitterness in the finish.

Floats around cassis and tobacco and a bit of astringency. Graphite and lifts into more red currant. Has a correct vibe and with air picks up a very nice broadness and framing but very intertial. Cantemerle isn't a dynamic wine in youth (and arguably not in age) but these feels extra lead shoes.

The blend for Cantemerle's 2019 bottling is very similar to the Estate's overall plantings: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep crimson in color, it flaunts an intense aromatic profile of black currants, morello cherries, baking spices, cedar and bittersweet chocolate. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, judiciously oaked and without alcoholic heat (13.5%), it delivers flavors mirroring the aromas, adding notes of graphite and licorice. Although plentiful, the tannins are quite polished, giving the wine a very supple mouth texture. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, it is a young Bordeaux that is already very drinkable. This particular bottle was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and serially sampled over the ensuing three hours. Give it at least an hour of air for maximal enjoyment. Drink now-2039.

From 375ml. Quite nice more polished than prior years with a softer more nuanced tannin profile. Nice mid weight bdx, red fruited and a bit crunchy on the palate.

Medium reddish-purple garnet in color; almost opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, cassis & plums with earthy/dusty & herbal overtones, some floral notes, herbs, spices, minerals, & a slight hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & a hint of vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Quite accessible at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with a few years of additional aging if cellared properly.

Clear dark garnet in color; currant, dark fruit on the nose; medium body with tannins still dominant (not surprising for a 2019), medium to full length finish.

Remarkably smooth and balanced for a 3-year-old Bordeaux. Nose - Some berry, wood and floral hints on the nose. Color - clear dark cherry. Not much tannin on the palate, a bit of a surprise for a Bordeaux of this age. Very smooth but not overly long finish. No need in our opinion to hold until the "best enjoyed" dates of between 2025 and 2039. In fact, not sure if it has the structure to hang on til '39.

-- decanted 80 min. prior to initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a few hrs. -- -- vineyard is planted with 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot --
NOSE: boysenberry; light blackberry; high-toned; not funky; not oaky.
BODY: garnet-violet color of great depth; medium to medium-full bodied.
TASTE: a touch bitter; oaky; high acidity; earthy; red/purple fruit mix; hints of camphor and leather. Initially, this came across as not great for drinking now, but the oak receded some and it developed additional nuances, making it not a complete waste to drink now --- nonetheless, I like this vintage a lot for a few years down the road.

Silky, polished, fine tannins, nicely judged acidity, black berries, tart cherry, medium body, nice finish, easy and versatile to drink. Very nice.
Not an epic wine, but a lovely smooth daily sipper. Not as rustic or earthy as some Bordeaux, which I like, but it's got nice polish and silkiness instead.
Bordeaux wines continue to impress at low price points. Great value in this wine. Well balanced, good acidity, and great aroma of red fruits. Medium body and not much of a long finish. A little tart. It gets 91 points because of its value proposition.

Can't really complain for the price. It's red fruited, lightly cedary, and easy to drink, but I have had more distinguished vintages from Cantemerle than this where these qualities are more harmonious and combined with a seductive texture. Here it just lacks its usual charm and feels more in a cru bourgeois mold.
Big thumbs-up. Clearly has more potential than a few recent vintages I've tried young (14, 15). You could drink it now with air or you could try that adult thing called "patience" that I keep hearing about. LMK if patience works out for you - I'll be drinking this too early.
Hm, I think this wine needed more air than what it received. Anyway, a bit closed but i got the impression that everything was there - just needs a very long decant. 89-90.

Unmistakably Left Bank Bordeaux! The distinctive perfume spills from the bottle upon pulling the cork, and strengthens in the glass.
Fine balance of terroir, varietal expression, and oak treatment. Gritty and very well structured, expansive, impressive range, high quality finish.
More enjoyable and traditional than the house's 2020 offering, which features excessive polish. Seven to ten years in the cellar will serve it well.
