  • Beautiful wine. Had for wife's 40th birthday, along with a lineup of first growths and Napa cabs. Such a fan of Mouton, year in and year out.

  • Business trip. Way to young. But everyone will tell you that. Try in 20 years

  • Nez leger de poivrons, fruits rouges, sous-bois... Loads of concentration, super voluptuous, ripe tannin, loads of ripe red cherries, very delicious.

  • Mouton dinner (La Chaumiere in Georgetown): Expressive nose displaying primary black and blue fruit, crushed blueberry, crème de cassis, ink, licorice, a hint of mocha, dark flowers, dark spices and crushed rocks. There is a strong Cabernet green/jalapeño note. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of intense perfectly ripe black and blue fruit, rich but silky and weightless, exceptional finesse, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, tannins fully masked by generous primary fruit, and a seamless long concentrated black and blue fruit driven finish with a hint of licorice at the end. Since not showing obvious tannins, someone mentions the more approachable wine making style. IMO, most well-made young Bordeauxs will not show much tannins due to the generous primary fruit. It will take a few more years before the tannins become more noticeable. I really love the freshness. This is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon driven Mouton.

  • This is a polished and aristocratic wide, boasting a wide array of fruit, on balance more dark and blue, such as black currant, dark cherry, blueberry and brambleberry. Mineral notes of iodine and an earthy layer that adds depth. Immensely complex, adding new flavors with every swirl such as black coffee, white pepper, dark chocolate and herbaceous notes. Well-balanced palate with soft but present tannin. Precise and linear. While clearly brutally young and there is definitely no need to rush into popping any of these for a decade, this appeared already destined for greatness.

  • This is an very layered, highly precise wine that, however, shouldn‘t be opened right now as it is still a tad wild and has to integrate further. No early drinking window open. The 94/95 pts shows what it is today, already interesting and quite enjoyable wine. The potential, of course, is much higher.

TN: potpourri of ripe but not too ripe fruit, lots of minerality, some coffee notes. On the palate even more expressive, layered with loads of dark berries, blue fruit, well balanced with a lot of minerality and earthy notes, coffee and toast. With time so red berries too. A bit wild, but the Montrose 2019 in the glass, was much wilder.

Decanting: Followed the wine over days and it never fully opened up and became totally round. No amount of decanting will get it there.

  • Christmas Gathering at Daniel's Place (Daniel's place): Deep purple and homogenous. Very deep floral potpourri aromas, then some ripe blackberry and cassis, as well as mint, then cloves and cinnamon. Somewhat ripe and sweetish, even Port-like, but definitely having the bright acids to keep the freshness. Too young, but definitely full of potential for enjoyment in about 15-20 years

  • Had this alongside a 2019 Ausone. While the Ausone showed best at PnP, the Mouton hit its stride around hour 3 in the decanter. There was a magical window at that point, and then by hour 6 it had completely shutdown.

A fabulous vintage for this wine. Displayed soaring aromas of creme de cassis, white flowers, sweet tobacco, asian spices and wet stone. For a Bordeaux, this is very opulent, with ripe tannins that are almost immediately hemmed in by significant structure and excellent levels of acidity. For the brief time when the fruit was allowed to come out and play, this was spectacular, showing insane purity and incredible persistence as it danced around on the palate. Even in a more showy vintage, the sophistication, elegance and polish set it apart from nearly all other wines. Absolutely loved it, but it's going to be a challenge to find the right drinking window if you kill this baby.

  • Mouton Rothschild hasn't skipped a beat since the sublime 2009 vintage! 2019 continues their winning streak with one of the wines of the vintage. Almost opaque in color, the nose resonates with its showy display of Asian spices, cigar wrapper, fresh herbs, cigar box, blackberries, crushed stone and cassis. Full-bodied, richly concentrated, opulent, and equally refined, the multi-layered display of flawlessly ripe berries, elegant textures, balance, freshness and flamboyance is what the great vintages of Mouton are all about. The finish crosses the 60 second mark with ease. Drink from 2035-2070.

  • Deeply colored, the intoxicating, aromatic profile provides essences of mint, Asian spice, blackberry, cassis, cigar box, smoke and lead pencil. On the palate, the wine is rich, lush, round, full-bodied and concentrated, with layers of lusciously textured, ripe, sweet, fresh, pure dark red pit fruits and blackberries. Classically styled, but classic in a good way, the wine is showy, but not flamboyant. The finish here just keeps on going. With a high proportion of Cabernet in the blend, the wine is produced from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, reaching 13.5 alcohol. The harvest took place September 18-October 5. The Grand Vin was produced from 51% of the crop with yields of only 40 hectoliters per hectare. 98-100 Pts
