This is some really nicely well made Bordeaux by the consistent hand of Clerc Milon. These wines are always just beautiful examples of Pauillac at a very reasonable price and they age so well. This is sneaky good use of wood here, bringing exoticness to the wine that makes it stand out taller than many other wines from Pauillac. Second time with this wine now, and I like what is happening. Pulled the cork on the bottle accessed by Coravin in January and earlier this month. A consistent experience with those notes...and similar to Keith Levenberg's note of 4/3/23. Technically excellent, strikingly underwhelming...including a sense of manufacture.
The most overstated Left Bank Classed Growth tasted in this vintage. The professional wine marketers' scores can only be described as befuddling. Exceedingly poor QPR.

Appealing bouquet, suave for Pauillac. Blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, peppers, herbs, graphite, and gravel, with intrusive toasted coconut top notes (charred oak).
Piercing attack, quite juicy. Light, bordering on thin, middle. Nothing of note at the back...other than sappy oak. Clipped, somewhat astringent finish. More broadly, relative to the vintage, this shows elements of manipulation, intended to impress New World palates.
Technically excellent. Once the pretty bouquet gives way to the rather mundane palate, however, particularly in the company of three other same vintage Pauillac offerings...disappointment follows. Not much to it. The professional wine marketers whiffed scoring this.
Likely to evolve and hold through 2030. Marginal improvement seems possible. 90-91.

Must confess to preferring the Armailhac this vintage. The Clerc might actually be more refined and does have an especially pleasing texture, but it's also surprisingly light-bodied relative to its norm, which was enough to make the woodiness a little too aggressive.
Four 2019 Left Bank Offerings: Pretty fruit, notably plum and blackcurrant, peppers, toast (too much), and graphite. Suave and heavily polished. The wine creates an impression of Pauillac-light...in no good way. Moderate middle, weak back, notably short finish...excepting oak. Not much to this, thus unlikely to improve.

This is a great Paulliac very typical of its heritage and location. No formal notes but was singing after a 2.30 hour decant with lead pencil, black currants, plums, tar and very fresh acidity that was completely harmonious. Seek out and age for 3-5+ years

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of blackcurrant, black fruits, vanilla. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Tannin is polished and not harsh. Drinking well and will benefit with further cellaring.

Union des Grands Crus: The 2019 Clerc Milon is a clear step up from the d'Armailhac, showing enchanting, succulent currant and blueberry. There's depth and polish on the palate with a bit of fresh spring flowers. This has a nice fatness, though there's no dearth of acid and structure. No hint of heat for all of its presence. 92-93

Showing the soft, elegant style of Pauillac, and though its a far cry from Pichon Lalande, its definitely on the same rails and would show more like a baby Lalande than Reserve de Comtesse. To me, this will never be great, but is always soft and elegant. Back in the day, this was a great Bordeaux wine for the price. Now, so many other makers are delivering so much more for less. Things have gone topsy turvy in a good way! HOLD_

UGC Bordeaux (Union Station - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Very rich with moderate power, this is a wine of excellent finesse in this vintage that doesn't emphasize finesse. Very good young, but with the bones to cellar as well.

The large percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, 72%, (The highest percentage since 1986) seems to have added a lot of complexity here, as it was so ripe. Now, you find a complex array of flowers, spice, tobacco leaf, blackberries, and currants in the nose. Fresh, crisp, soft, sweet, and vibrant on the palate, the wine offers length, purity, freshness, and a finish loaded with sweet red fruits, a touch of peppery spice, and just a hint of savory, leafy herbs on the backend. This is in contention as the best vintage of Clerc Milon ever produced. Drink from 2027-2047.

Bravo! 2025-2044. vvWine.ch

Arvi Bordeaux 2019 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 25 wines (2 whites, 3 sweet, no first growths) at a Bordeaux 2019 in the bottle event. My observations were: i/ the tannic structure was soft and well-integrated across the board, ii/ the fruit was generally fresh and light with no heavy-handed extractions, iii/ Top wines were Client (97), Léoville Barton (96) and Smith Haut Lafitte (96). More thoughts and list of wines included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Earth and barnyard with a quite intense dark berry fruit. Nice and fresh fruit on the palate, decent amount of muscle there too and fresh out of the gates looking almost eye to eye with Lynch Bages – although there is less substance.

Flowers, chocolate, tobacco, blackberry and cassis are just some of the nuances you experience before reaching the silky, polished, refined core of fruit on the palate and in the finish. The wine blends 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and a mix of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is interesting to note that 1986 was the last time Clerc Milon had this much Cabernet in the blend. 93-95 Pts

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2019 Vintage Tasting, Singapore: Big, perfumed nose. Brambly raspberry.
Tasted at UGC Bordeaux 2019 tasting in Singapore.
Dense, concentrated. Red fruit, oak and vanilla from the oak.
Yet to show off its complexity - needs time to unfurl. Good potential and one to revisit.
Too young to score but anticipated range 91-94.
