Jeff Leve’s description sounds he tasted it more or less the same way I did. The aromatics of this wine feature some hints of chocolate, expresso and sweet leaf tobacco. IE a little bit like a VERY upmarket Graves to my mind. Meanwhile, it’s medium weight only, not a big wine but extremely silky and well balanced. Fresh but ripe fruit. The finish has a lovely fresh pure core of citrus and herb inflected cassis that reminds me a little of Lafite. Pure. This isn’t going to win any prizes for size - it’s not a weighlifter, but as a very elegant iteration of a modern Margaux, it’s a delight. Delicious already; sensational in a decade plus. Lovely - if you don’t need wines that are on steroids. Sophisticated.

A pleasant surprise - freshly tilled earth, charred embers, inkwell, roast coffee bean and rich cassis to the nose. Plush and velvety on the palate, with a polished, slightly savoury feel and smooth but firmly grippy tannins. Excellent potential. 93+

Decanted for 2 hours. Complex nose with dark fruits, earthy, lead pencil, and a good touch of new oak. On the palate, although the tannin was still noticeable, it’s quite open now. The wine also continued evolving during the evening. A very enjoyable wine. Drink well now.

Deep ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with red plum, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, eucalyptus and cloves. Pronounced taste of red plum, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, eucalyptus, black pepper and cloves. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Medium body. A very good Margaux with good potential. Drink in ten to twenty years. Goes well with beef, lamb or pork.

Brick-toned red fruit with a strong cedarwood infusion battling for the spotlight (and winning). The fruit is a little bit stronger on day two than day one, both sweeter and tarter. This ought to be better once it digests its wood but there is much better value for money these days, even within Margaux.

The "Cantenac Brown 2019" is made from 68% Cab. Sauvignon and 32% Merlot. There are Blackberry, (dark) cherries, tobacco and some chocoloate. Also there are herbs like thyme and lavendel. Really complex but a little thin (at this point I understand Wineappelation tasting note). But the complexity is really there and it is really a good wine with a good QPR.

Union des Grands Crus: The 2019 Cantenac Brown underlines the estate's improvements over recent years; it's still big and perhaps a little bumptious, but it's balanced, slightly floral, and without the alcoholic heat shown by some earlier vintages (e.g., the disappointing 2015).

UGC Bordeaux (Union Station - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Black cherry and currant with spice notes and harmonious tannins, this comes across as elegant and balance with obvious weight and impressive length. 92-93 point potential.

The best vintage from Cantenac Brown in a while opens with a showy display of flowers, espresso, thyme, black cherries, plums, tobacco and earthy, aromatics. Richly-textured, with soft, polished tannins and a wealth of deep, ripe, sweet, fresh, dark, red fruits, the wine feels as good as it tastes. The round, supple finish delivers loads of fruits and a touch of chocolate in the endnote. Drink from 2027-2055.

2026-2045 vvWine.ch

95-96 vvPunkte (68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot): Nobel, zurückhaltend, sehr tief, sehr komplex, dunkle Frucht, Rauch, Teer, Stein, kühl. Der Gaumen ist super druckvoll, sehr dicht, konzentriert, dabei sowas von elegant, ich flippe hier aus. Endet lang, ausgewogen und mit saftiger Frucht. Ein kleiner Geheimtipp. 2026-2045. Situated on the corner of power and roundness, you find layers of juicy, ripe, lusciously textured, fresh fruits, dark chocolate, flowers, smoke and spice. The tannins are there, polished and ripe, giving you density and structure, providing the ability age and evolve for at least 2 decades. 93-95 Pts

Decent concentration of fruits but not so long. Fairly grippy. Good enough but pales in comparison to Brane Cantenac.
Too young to score but anticipated range 89-92.
