  • Tasted over 4 hrs
-slightly murky nearly semi-translucent med dark red mild bricking
-expressively beautiful melange of funk Gevrey spice stewed tomato vegetal decaying leaf
-med/med+ acidity gives lift but no harshness, med/med- weight shows plenty of finesse yet not lacking in power sappy savory saline clean complex faded earthy cherry sousbois, gentle caressing med- tannins surprisingly not dried out at all, excellent length
-once again another '04 Jacky hit straight out of the park, as usual a bit warmer softer and more red-fruited than the Clos de la Roche, this is drinking so perfectly now though every time we open the last bottle of any particular Truchot wine it feels like saying good bye forever to a dear friend

  • What a treat to drink this wine! The nose is so deep and expressive, despite its youth, with beautiful, mature aromas of coffee, warm soil, roasted mushrooms, and just the faintest whiff of dried herbs. I probably sniffed this for a solid half hour before taking a sip; it was so compelling. Lithe and deliciously red-fruited on the palate, showing plenty of maturity and depth without sacrificing balance. Not a trace of green to be found here. The best 2004 Burg I’ve had by a country mile, and an exceptional wine in its own right.

  • Pnp. Floral on the nose with some green note, coffee beans, red currant and flowers. Palate was expressive and a bit thin. After one hour in the glass, it had evolved so much. More floral and open on the nose. The palate gained more weight and complexity. Truchot nailed it in this vintage. While DRC is also great in 04, Truchot is on another level. Very nice. 94+

  • PopnPour, tasted over 4 hrs
-nearly semi-translucent dark red core with transition to rusty red/brown and moderate fading at edges
-very pretty Truchot aromatics with beetroot/'04 trait cherry earth stewed tomato
-med/med+ acidity, med- weight with med concentration mid-palate dominated by savory earthy cherry and early signs of maturity, moderately complex with good length, really opens up after 2 hrs and picks up some citrus notes on the finish, tannins mostly resolved and only slightly drying (less than most '04s at this point)
-exhibits characteristics of its producer, terroir and vintage, this could be nothing other than an '04 Gevrey from Truchot; excellent now for those who aren't super super sensitive to the '04 trait, with easily 5-10 good years ahead of it

  • Wow, this is fantastic. Such an amazing fragrance combining red berried fruit, higher toned floral and pine cone-like notes, and more savoury leathery and sous bois elements, and a very graceful, lightweight palate presence. There's remarkable depth here and the palate keeps unraveling more layers of flavour with air, and this is drinking beautifully right now. Thanks Jay!

  • Opened alongside the '04 Clos de la Roche, and it's hard to put either of these into words as they're both utterly stellar, compelling wines. Both have the same pale appearance, a remarkable lightness and purity of flavour, and yet amazing presence. There's just a faint green element in both wines; more a herbal accent that adds complexity rather than the more vegetal '04 greenness I've noticed in some other wines, and both show an incredible fragrance I can only describe as Truchot-esque with a spectrum of fruit, mineral, earth, leather and other savoury flavours that combine into a compelling scent. The Charmes comes across a little leaner; more red-fruited with a penetrating spine of acidity that makes itself felt with each sip and layers of earthy, sous bois and countless other savoury flavours framing the fresh raspberry and strawberry fruit. There's more richness in the Clos de la Roche but it doesn't have quite the same piercing intensity as the Charmes; the fruit's darker in complexion here - more black cherries rather than fresh red berries, and while it's not as intense initially, there's the same purity and finesse, similar depth and complexity and amazing persistence with the flavours just resonating long after each sip. Two incredible complementary wines, and a real treat to be able to sit down on a casual weekday evening and enjoy them with good company. Thanks David.

  • Incredible nose that promised great things and the first few tastes seemed to suggest this was an exceptional wine, however, over the course of a couple of hours the wine closed down going from a vibrant fruit driven complex wine to a muddle of uneasy off-flavors. Nose was a 95-97 if it can even live up to its promise.

  • (at Per Se – NYC) Loved this. Opened kind of tight with a confectionary note mixed with some stems – I know this may sound crazy, but it reminded me of a Brewer Clifton pinot with lower alcohol. Don’t know, but I am guessing this sees some inclusion of stems in the fermentation. After about 60 minutes this really came together and impressed. A wonderful earthiness emerged while the fruit became more refined and seemless. Light weight (and color) but great depth and intensity. The first time I have had the Charmes from this producer, and I am very impressed. Too bad the ’05 is the last vintage. Great QPR for Grand Cru burgundy. Will only improve over the next 10 years. (93+)

  • More saline and meaty than the Combottes and just slightly more powerful. Very nice.

Superbe bouteille !
