Beautiful colour. Quite subdued on the nose initially. Definitely fully mature. Touch of savoury hoisin elements intermingled with the dark fruit elements. Nice spice and soil notes but you need to concentrate with this wine as it is quite subtle and gentle. Went very well with beef shank consommé. A special treat as always.

Opened in HK. A small glass was very generously shared to me about four hours after opening. Tasted blind.
Aromatics were not quite there after so much breathing, but there were hints of lychee and tea leaves and it was clearly a Pinot from a great producer after tasting it. I thought there were more black fruits than red, which drew me to guess Leroy from the Cotes de Beaune. Fair amount of sediment at the bottom as well, which suggested 90s for me but didn't commit to a vintage.
Turns out it was a '95 DRC GE! Always a pleasure to try, especially when generously shared, but this definitely threw me off a little bit. Still lots of structure, I thought, even if the stemmy aromatics and Vosne spice weren't quite there by the time I tasted it.
Unsure of upside, and not the greatest DRC - but a treat nonetheless.

During a Paulee dinner so only brief impressions. Whole cluster aromas very much in the front, suble red fruit and spices in the back. Complex, but may be a touch too much green notes for a higher score.

Bottle breathe for 1 hr. Nose has sweet red fruit, flower and vr spice. Palate is very balanced with high acidity and sweet red fruit. It fades towards the end. This is drinking at the peak. No need to wait

I just have to give a very low point for this btl of Eche. Whenever you pop a DRC there are certain expectations, but this just failed massively. Very lean body with little hint of floral nose. To have it side by side with 97,98,99 eche, all of us thought this was a VR village from producers around the terroir. Shockingly disappointed.

Beguiling nose of dark cherries, sweet earth and horse barn. Deliciously ripe and deep dark cherry fruit is balanced beautifully by spritzy acidity. A brooding red Burgundy with layered depth of earthy/rustic flavors and a lovely silky texture. The finish is complex with firm, dry tannins and strong mineral notes along with fabulous spices. Still at least 5 years away from peak. 94+

DRC Dinner 1 (Sydney, Australia): Lovely floral aromas to start with, supported by some light charred cedar, redcurrant and cloves - given time in the glass, the florals moved to the background and more earthy notes come to the fore. The palate is medium bodied, with a core of red fruit persisting. It perhaps lacks real character or palate complexity to lift it, but it was nicely close to its peak and rather enjoyable regardless.

Spicy and vibrant nose, not as much Bose romance funk as I expect. Very fresh, fruit forward, lush typical drc chactoristic power. Some strawberry, elderberry, pomegranate. Really lovely and starting to drink, but will go for many years.

Dinner with Friends (Chicago IL): Opened about 20 minutes before serving. Very powerful aromatics. Dense black and red cherry with quite a bit of earth and brown spice. Equally powerful dark fruit, earth and spice on the palate. A firm mineral backbone. Great texture with a lengthy, gripping finish.

Tasted at the Vintages auction gala tasting. I really enjoyed this even though I normally don't like Pinot Noirs. A very mild bouquet with a light colour to it. The taste was beautiful and well balanced.

A good but not great bottle. cloudy in color and tight on the nose. only decanted at time of pour. Perhaps some more time would help the nose open and the flavors come through. Seems like it's trying but no cigar....

The Wine Summit; 6/2/2006-6/3/2006 (The Post Hotel in Lake Louise): Appearance a bit fuzzy and showing some garnet on the rim; a bit funky on first smelling, and this wine needed considerable swirling in the glass to bring forth more pleasing aromas of spice and hints of cedar; velvety texture – quite full on the palate; warm and beefy along with some baked fruit – suggested boiled cherries; pretty good balance, but there was too much oak coming through; finished with good length. Couldn’t spot any defects here, but the wine was no match for the Musigny. It seemed to lack some purity on the nose and on the palate. The acidity, which was evident, wasn’t the kind of refreshing and vigorous character exhibited in the Musigny. For me, this bottle was somewhat disappointing, as I had expected much more.

A Grand Evening...with Grands-Echezeaux (Kevin Restaurant, Chicago IL): Opened a couple of hours in advance. Spicy and vibrant nose when poured, with cinnamon and clove spice. Same spice and red fruit in the middle and the finish, which also started to show some earthy hints. Very nice, but not nearly the intensity of the 1988 open alongside.

Opened a couple hours before dinner. Rull red color. Wow, wild aroma of spicy cinnamon red fruit. Really great red fruit and huge complex spiciness on the palate. Very nice, but also too young. Most preferred the 88, but I gave it to the 95 by a nose… 94-95 pts. 4/06

Good aromatics, flowers and spice. Palate is softer than the post 2000 DRC GE on the side. Drinking at its peak. 92-93

Overachieved my low expectations. Subtle, light floral aromatics. Reasonably sweet, this palate has softened up with richness. (1078/9253)

Begins with elegance nose of wildberry, clean like Japanese mineral water, complex and nice.
Then getting more ripe and sweet, fruit-bomb in the mouth comes along with fresh acidity, fine tannin...smoke and lovely tiny spicy at the end.
Big and fuller-body, Charming !!
Robust and quite great aftertaste.
