Red fruit and a little alcohol on the nose which went went away with time in the glass. Cherry and plum on the palate with medium plus tannins and short/medium finish. Not super complex but easy drinking and good value.

50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre. A mind boggling 4,500,000 bottles produced annually. A classic staple French bistro wine, easy drinking, plush ripe red and black fruit, some spice characters. 15% ABV, hides it fairly well but still a pretty big wine from a hot year.

My first 2019, I found this rougher and more alcoholic than most previous vintages, although still a winner in its category and with a good QPR. As always with this wine, despite its humble station and price, it will evolve over a decade, and I hope that it will mellow. The 15% is too apparent. I have concerns that Guigal can’t get its farmers for these bought grapes to take the necessary steps to counter the effect of ever-hotter growing conditions. I’d really like to see this back down to 13.5 someday, but that probably won’t happen, and this will fade off of my list of good daily drinkers.

Dark to medium red color. Cherry and spice bouquet. Medium to full bodied format. Ripe cherry fruit flavor with garrigue undertone. Slightly warm finish. Soft and ready to drink, its rich texture adds to its CDR character. Modest length. Decanted for an hour. Guigal makes a good, if somewhat unexciting, Côtes du Rhône that is reliable year after year.

this is quite good but needs a bit more time. I suggest it between 2024 and 2027, perhaps even after that. Well-balanced with significant alcohol and tannins that blend well with the ripe fruit. An inexpensive yet delicious wine that is mostly a Grenache-Syrah-Mouvedre blend.

Raisin and blackberry, maybe currant as well. A little tight. Purchased to cook Coq Au Vin (wonderful for this). Drinking was okay at this time, lovely, but tight. Did not open up much over the night. Believe it will be ready in 1-2 more years. Delicious none the less. Wonderful color. May want to open for at least an hour before consuming if drinking now.

Consistent and a nice table wine to have if you enjoy Rhone red blends. Balanced and picked up some secondary notes on night two. Make sure to decant for an hour and let this blossom a but. Good value.

Solid wine - spiced, succulent cherries riding on a wave of easy drinking tannins. The jammy fruits cling a bit too much for my personal tastes, but the sufficient acidity provides enough lift to keep it quaffable.

dark purple, deep colour. nose: very good intensity full of red and dark fruits. Blackberries, blueberries, red and black cherries, ripe strawberries. Robust, juicy still fresh. taste: medium (+) acidity; excellent density; black and red plums - ripe; blueberries, very ripe strawberries; good ripe tannins. Long finish with some sweet spice - cinnamon. Great value for money. Excellent wine anyway.

Apparently this used to be Clive Coates MW’s “house red”. With good reason. How Guigal make 4 million bottles a year of this and keep the quality to this level considering the low price is one of the great mysteries of wine. Obviously it’s not the most complex, nor long, but what this delivers in spades is enjoyment. Pretty close to the perfect simple BBQ or party wine. Classic GSM mix so ripe cherry, a bit of spice, blackcurrant and blackberry. From a decent vintage like 2019 there’s a pleasant hit of ripe fruit sweetness but nicely balanced with a seam of tannin. Horrible term but appropriate here: gluggable! Like a warm embrace from a good friend.

Of my 6 half bottles, 1 had a cork disintegrate and 1 came out bitter. Of the 5 that weren't bitter, 3 tasted OK, 1 tasted very good and 1 tasted exceptional. Bit too much variance between bottles for me.

Deep purple in color; dried herbs, plum, and maybe leather on the nose; medium plus acidity; smooth tannins; tastes like blackberries, dark chocolate, and maybe camphor. Nellie doesn't like it. I think it will be better with food.

PNP. Very very deep magenta color. Strawberry, black cherry, Russian tea cake, orange gummy, anise, thyme, and subtle pink peppercorn. Smooth, dry palate. Firm tannins on the medium long+ finish.
This is a bit raw and a touch extracted, but might be the best QPR out there right now. It’s got structure, balance, and complexity. The Russian tea cake turned into honey bran muffin over an hour of drinking, which is equally good.
I’ve had this multiple times on United overseas flights and it’s much better on the ground. Definitely recommend for parties.

Color is a nice deep purple. Nose is very aromatic with notes of stone fuits, plum, and cherry with a hint of oak. Mouthfeel is relatively full bodied with soft tannins, with mostly deep fruits characteristic of a rhone GSM. Finish is medium to long. A relatively robust expression of the blend but the soft tannins allow it to be consumed with or without food. Solid without being exceptional.

15% alcohol; imported by Vintus LLC, New York City; real cork, cork aroma of stone fruit and berries, minerals; medium weight foil; medium legs, very dark red; opened, oxygenated via Vinturi, and tasted about 10 minutes later at 21 degrees C; nose of deep-going red fruit, trace of menthol; full bodied, wood (oak), vanilla, and, as was prominent in the nose, a deep-going red fruit, on a bed of minerals and forest floor; the barreling and ageing have a characteristic all its own, creating an unusual (at least for this side of the Atlantic) integrated m'elange of components; sweetness, especially, fits in well with the other flavors; medium finish cries out for pairing with umami foods -- I'm thinking of filet mignon, cooked (medium) rare on a charcoal or gas grill, on a festive occasion with friends

Unbalanced and hot with alcohol. I'll think twice before buying this once reliable cuvee again. The 15% ABV should have been a warning but I wrongly thought Guigal could still come up with something elegant and palatable.

Not a bad Côtes du Rhône, but I am finding this vintage less appealing than previous ones. Perhaps it will improve a bit, or maybe this is a somewhat substandard bottle.
Stonefruits and soft tannins, black tea, really gorgeous magenta color. Unfortunately not as much brightness as I'd like, and there's also a bit of a cherry cough syrup note that I personally find quite distasteful, but clearly decently made.

Served on United flight (Houston to Frankfurt). Very deep magenta color. Blueberry jelly bean, blackberry cobbler, and thyme. Smooth, tongue drying palate, with good acidity. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

No contemporaneous notes. 7th bottle of 12, 2 gifted. Medium bodied. While the flavor profile is similar, it is becoming clear that this vintage lacks the concentration and depth of previous vintages. Bottle variation is a distinct possibility with this large production cuvee (some previous bottles were better). Nothing wrong with this wine for the price, but it is not the screaming value it has been in past vintages, notably 2015 and 2016. (85-86). If you can still find it, for a few dollars more the 2019 St. Cosme CDR is superior.

A medium ruby color. Smells of blackberry pie, black cherry, garrigue, herbs. Mostly just black fruit with some raspberry and black cherry. Some mineral and spice notes. Pretty good acidity, easy tannins. High alcohol throws it off balance a bit. Not really a lot of depth or complexity. Better CdR wines within this price range, but not a bad choice.
EDIT: 2nd day and air has helped temper the alcohol a bit. More pleasant when going down. More apparent red fruit on the nose. No other complexity. 86-87. Decant for an hour to 2 hours.

Opened 10th finished on 12th. This one is not so grenache, which is good to my taste and quite different from my experience on the 2017 I had a few days before. On day 2 it was even better that the Grenache had subsided more. The wine was so balanced and drinkable on its own or with food.

New vintage for me.....my week for red Rhones. On nose: ripe cherries and smoke. On palate: the above notes amplified, with baking spices, black pepper, meatiness and density, with sage and Kona coffee.....far better than the Domaines de Dionysos CDR 2019 sampled yesterday....in SPITE of the fact that this clocks in at 15% alcohol...unheard of in the Rhone valley....however the heat is minimal, and this vintage does taste more like a Napa valley Syrah than an Old World wine.....also $4.00 LESS per bottle than the Domaines de Dionysos....will buy again.
Everyday bistro wine very examplary, usally cdr is not my kind of wine as I either prefer more tannins or acidity, or both. This has just enough structure to cope with 15% alcohol, which feels not to overpower the wine. Dangerous stuff. Some wood tannins. Nose of ripe red fruits, touch of smoke, violet and garique. Traces of some carbonic maceration. Will last a few more years but do not see this improving.

It's amazing to me the holdings of this wine from us CT aficionado's. It's all $18.75 CAD, and I forget the number of bottles produced, but it's more than 100! And, from a French winery who's rather tenured in production of wines in the plus $500 echelon, it seems they also focus at least 5% of the time on this wine. It's quite nice. It prevents my wife from sneaking the LaLa wines, since the labels are off similar colors occasionally! 😆
I like the 2018 over 2019.
Why? Maybe it's just the extra great of age. It's less structured, yet has a more soft, supple elegant mouthfeel. But, it likely won't last the decade Dunnuck insinuates the '19 will attempt.
Anyway, it's deep purple, with a vivaciousness like the ' 70's Rock band. Dark fruits mostly, though definitely a little red berries percolating I'm from behind the high alcohol and it's got the legs to go with it. It's tannic ( structure) and will certainly be beneficial if anyone was wanting this to be part of the layaway plan. It's not my plan, but everyone to their own.
Didn't get this decanted early enough on day one, so it seemed a little rough. But it's definitely softened, and with this medium-rare porterhouse, well, the beef made this wine... Better!
I've another 23 bottles for which I can direct my lovely wife and her friends for a few days... Though, I've been thinking I need to "hire" a different kind of cellar defender!! 😂😂
Alas, this can't get to 90+ in my books. Maybe the 2018? Maybe another bottle with a different ambiance. Maybe not at all. We'll see.
Getting fussy in my old age, more experienced palate and more likely....deeper pockets
BTW, ...if you're indeed wanting to buy this Guigal CdR, I'd get the 2018 for the elegance and knowing the drinking window is here for several years.
But, buy the 2019, if you've a need to push the envelope, to see if this recipe will last a decade.
PS - Drink the Rainbow!

Bottle 3 of 12. 3 1/2 hours in decanter. Ruby/purple. Smoke, spice, red and dark fruits on the nose. Initially balanced on the palate, but over time it presents more noticeable acidity and tannin, as well as sweeter fruit, than I recall from prior bottles. This bottle had just traveled from store. (87-88). ADDENDUM: Although not as fresh, better 2 days later. Stored in refrigerator in half bottle, with vacuvin cork.

It’s decent, versatile table wine. It needs some air to improve both the nose and palate. Drank over the course of a few days and I honestly think it was best on the last day. On the nose, I first noticed some bubble gum, but that gave way to darker fruits, menthol and cedar over time. Palate seemed to follow with baked plum and some spices. I’ll probably buy more of this for daily drinking.

Intensity medium(-). Simple, but decent CdR marked by dark forest fruit (blackberry, cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant) and black pepper,. GSM, dominated by 50% Syrah. Acidity medium. Tannins medium(+). Finish medium. A bit put off by the 15% alcohol, although it does not leave clear marks on the palate.

First bottle of (at least) 6. PnP. Ruby, clean. Dark fruits on the nose. Rich, savory, low acid, (initially sweet) dark fruits and soft tannin on the palate. Initially a little hot, with some apparent over extraction, which resolves with airing. Very promising. This is better than the 2017 and 2018; more similar to a young 2016. Potentially excellent. (88-90).

Medium ruby color shows legs with nice viscosity. Earthy nose with plum and blackberry, deep and rich. More dark fruit on the palate, with spice on the mid palate, black pepper, and clove. This spice fades only slightly into the somewhat long finish where notes of tobacco start to become prevalent. This wine drinks well above its price.

Absolute quality, a wine that never tires, 15 degrees that feel like 13 degrees. Pleasant and enveloping tannins, an unmissable Côte du Rhône considering the price. Ripe fruit such as currants and cherries. Light and pleasant spiciness, very well-integrated oak. A wine to buy to resist the temptation of drinking Côte Rôtie every day.
Assoluta qualità, un vino che non stanca mai, 15° che sembrano 13°. Tannino piacevole e avvolgente, in rapporto al prezzo un cote du rhone imperdibile. Frutta matura come ribes e ciliegie. Spezia leggera e piacevole, legno integrato molto bene. Da comprare per non avere la tentazione di bere il cote rotie tutti i giorni.

Popped and poured, consumed over 4 hours. Wine has a dark purplish red colour, with slow legs and quite viscous. Mostly dark fruited, black plums, blueberries, ripe cherries, a nice smokiness, black peppercorn, scorched earth, black olives, vanilla bean, wet rocks. On the palate this CdR is full bodied, with medium acidity and nice minerality. The wine has a fruity, peppery, oaky mouthfeel, with grainy integrated tannins and showing quite good balance and smoothness, with a medium lenght finish. Alcohol is listed at 15% but unexpectedly is quite integrated and not too overwhelming. Drink now or hold for 2/3 years for much more complexity, but for me not go beyond 2026/2028. Fairly simple and drinkable right now, but is what you have to expect. For around 10 euros it's probably one of the best classic Cotes du Rhone of its price range and a great q/pr from a great producer.

At this early stage this vintage seems to be more serious again, though the earlier notes on this vintage say something different. Quite fruity, but with more spicy fresh notes, it seems more marked by syrah, and with less sweet fruit, more acidity than the 2018. At least I hope that it will age in this direction. For now I like it more than the 2018. 5/11+/16/7+. -2026+

dark purple, deep colour. nose: very good intensity full of red and dark fruits.

BTW,
...if you're indeed wanting to buy this Guigal CdR, I'd get the 2018 for the elegance and knowing the drinking window is here for several years.
But, buy the 2019, if you've a need to push the envelope, to see if this recipe will last a decade.
PS - Drink the Rainbow!
