This has held up pretty well, kind of mild and mellow, not a lot of depth at this point, but a balanced, sweet-tart (in a good way) vouvray. Very nice.

MY last one of these, and I feel like we're drinking it at just the right time. The puckery acidity has really calmed down. It is a smooth, almost honey-like beverage, both in color and flavor profile. Not complex, just really mellow and deep. This wasn't pricey 10 years ago and it doesn't taste pricey now - but it was a good QPR and worth sitting on for the better part of a decade!

A very odd bottle. The first night, it was very rich, not enough acidity. The second night, it has settled down, has a nice balance now, but it has a distinct beer taste! There's a definite yeasty quality, along with some nice peach and citrus fruit. It's actually very enjoyable now.

A clean wheat color with a medium to full body. This was the oldest white in my chiller and I decided to pull it for a hot summere dinner. The nose is quite weak, perhaps the age, really only picked up a maybe a little pear. Very pleasant on the palate with little acidity. It produced a nice lingering soft finish. Probably a lot pat peak but still was enjoyed well chilled on this 90+ degree day.

Pale yellow hinting at straw. Floral, honeyed nose, made interesting and complex by a passing earthy, violet note. Rich and mouthcoating, despite the low 12% abv, with peach, melon, and faint, earthy oak nuance. Just a bit of sweetness. Shortish. Terrific balance for easy drinking now or soon. Fine value. Dinner at Delaney's, brought by E&D.

Sweet and honeyed. Showed impressive length. Whilst seeming sweeter than a demi-sec, it was all held in balance. It's just a matter of knowing what to put it with. The ginger, chilli and pork stir-fry actually did alright, though it was balanced with some honey. Blue cheese or foie gras might also fare well. Day two and it held up fine, pairing with a roast fig and cream-cheese salad.

I always appreciate the Vouvrays of this producer and this one brings all the Chenin goods that I love - apple and citrus fruits, acidity, honey tones, lanolin, prominent minerality, a touch of sweetness. Don't get me wrong here because I am a buyer and holder and drinker of this wine but I would appreciate more focus and definition.

Nice wine, good acidity to balance the light sweetness (though shy of my preference on acidity by just a hair), good fruit, and enough of that lanolin signature of Chenin to make me happy. Much, much better on day two, when the whole thing seems to come closer to being in focus.

Very nice wine. Melon, pear, and grapefruit on the nose. Fruit isn't overpowering, but still there. The acid keeps the wine balanced, but the sugar is definitely present. There is also a nice salinity that persists through the finish. With air time, the malic acid takes center stage with a strong apple presence in the finish. Granted, not the most focused wine, but all in all, worth drinking and an overall delight.

10/16/09: Some sweetness. The fruit is pure and lively, but it doesn't finish as clean as I'd like. Actually quite nice, but the '07 vintage is still haunting me. 87
4/25/09: We reordered this and went back a vintage. Unfortunately, the '06 can't stand up to the amazing '07 of this wine. Too sweet, without enough acididty or structure to keep it balanced. The fruit was a little muddled, as well. maybe not stored well?

Tasty, but probably sweeter than it should have been because the acid had started to fade. Totally drinkable and nice, but should have consumed it earlier.

This was my go-to white for 2008, I can't get enough of this wine. Now there's only one bottle left and I'll be sorry to see it go. Many years left, of course. I strongly prefer this to similar and one-step-up Champalou bottles for instance, and I enjoy those wines as well. The usual tasting notes on this get it right, my only comments are (a) there are some real subtleties here when you concentate and (b) your palate has to adjust to it to get the full effect, usually for me the glory comes late in the first or on the second glass. For those reasons casual tasters won't get the most out of this wine, leaving more for the rest of us, although enough people are discovering Pinon that it's north of a double sawbuck now. Ah well.

A nice wine. Initially I got nothing on the nose and it took several minutes of swirling in the glass to get the wine to open up, but eventually I got the crushed rocks and flowers on the nose. Very nice. On the palate, a nice zippy acidity but balanced by being just off dry. Tastes of green apple, some melons and a little bit of honey. Good finish. Shows why chenin blanc is such a good grape. A Louis/Dressner import.

A- Has a slightly grassy/grapefruity nose like Sauv blanc, floral soap, apricot, slight cheesiness. T- Has an overrripe and almost rotten quality, like the fruit may have been damaged or sat around in the sun too long. Has a hint of the Sauv blanc quality that is on the nose. Might have guessed it as an SB if tasted blind. Not minerally like really good Chenins.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Rich & Dana's): Tasted double blind. Pale color with apple and citrus notes, and a slight waxiness. Plenty of fruit on the palate, with a slightly sweet edge, and a soft, elegant finish.

Nice bottle. Med aromatics with honey, ginger, citrus (orange and grapefruit skins) and a nice minerality. Med to full body, some residual sugar but a good acidity and a slight bitterness keep everything together. Rather complex on the palate with a lot of fruits: apple, pineapple, honey mixed with that residual sugar and bitterness make this wine really interesting.

Really nice Vouvray. Nose of cantaloupe quince and a bit of apples and lemon. Some slight sweetness is compensated by a very nice acidity/minerality that kicks in at the medium length finish. I tried it with curry dish (with chicken, raisins and apples) and it complemented it extremely well, with almost 1 minute finish. On its own 89pt, but paired with a spicy dish this deserves 90pts. Buy more if you find it.

Great Chenin, great price. The bouquet offered fresh flowers, honey, citrus and what Greenblanket can only describe as fall orchard fruit (somewhere on the apple-pear quince spectrum). The palate is full and balanced. Some may not like it but Greenblanket thinks that the slight sweetness adds depth and supports the complexity of this lovely wine. Lively acidity and wet sedimentary rock minerality help lift and support the fruit. The finish is long. This is a very nice bottle of wine and Greenblanket wants more.

Nice, simple Loire Valley Chenin Blanc. Honey, citrus, green apples, and wildflowers in the nose. Plenty of slightly sweet fruit in the mouth with pear, apple, and hints of grapefruit accompanied by subtle honey making a nice mouthfeel. Off-dry with some nice minerality near the finish. Plenty of bright tannins balance the flavors nicely. Great wine for a picnic or to serve with cheese and fruit. Bargain price, too!

Despite a difficult vintage, Pinon's organically-grown, naturally-vinified, lees-aged Cuvée Tradition is practically the equal of his 2005 and 2004 releases. It may not be quite as full and creamy as those vintages, not so reubenesque yet sleek, but it's equally fresh and clean.
