Composite cork crumbled when trying to open. Really?! On a 4 year old wine that was on its side?! No evidence of oxidation. Decent fruit, some black pepper, but a bit of bitter finish. Seghesio zins consistently get good reviews, but I usually end up disappointed.
Dark berries, plums, vanilla, licorice, oak, chocolate. Fine tannins with good acidity. In the initial attack, some sweetness also emerges without becoming jammy. Medium-bodied with a fairly long finish. The oak bitterness in the finish is slightly too pronounced for my taste.

After letting open in the glass for an hour has hints of dark fruit and copper on the nose. Heavy tannins with a metallic aftertaste and hints of cherry, blackberry, and metal. Think this needs at least another 3-5 years to soften more,

Opened, poured and let sit about 40 min. Then: Nose somewhat darkish fruit, but not much of it. Initial taste is darkish fruit, short, not particularly pleasant. After about another 10 minutes, this has smoothed out considerably. Now reddish-darkish fruit with sweetish sensation; maybe a bit floral; no spiciness; acidity OK, tannins OK; decent finish; except no zin profile - not even a hint. I think this is the entry level Seghesio zin, but its a poor introduction; nothing close to a typical zin profile. Drinkable, but just another non-descript red wine.

Sweet and ripe dark fruit aromas, further rounded with chocolate and licorice, but also something more like eucalyptus which gives it some structure. Full body and smooth sweet fruit on the palate, with decent acidity. Not really my type of wine but a good example.

Full bodied Zinfandel with dark fruit flavors and enough spice to balance the fruit. Hints of vanilla on the medium to long finish. Excellent QPR at the $18 sale price. Paired well with Italian food and drinks well without food. Definite buy again at any price under $20

Deep ruby in color. Nice strong aromas of blackberry, spiced plum, and a hint of cinnamon and sweet tobacco. Bold taste, with notes of blackberry and cola up front, followed by a nice finish of oak, tobacco, and almost a smoked meat vibe. This wine reminded me why I like Zinfandels so much--big bold flavors without being jammy, and nice warm oaky finish. Yum!

Nose of berries and vanilla. On the palate, purple berries, vanilla, and faint green herbal notes. The finish is most vanilla. Medium+ bodied; the acidity and tannins are barely perceptible. A bit soft and more vanilla than I’d like. It’s not bad for an industrial wine, but there are plenty of $20 wines I’d rather drink.
Seghesio's Sonoma County Zinfandel is, year after year, a "workhorse" that performs well above its pay grade. The 2019 iteration is no exception. Opaque ruby in color, it is packed with cherry compote and blackberry fruit that is complemented with notes of licorice, allspice, dried herbs and black pepper. Medium-to-full-bodied, freshly acidic, lightly oaked, softly tannic and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.8%), it stays plump in the middle and finishes medium-to-long. This particular bottle was uncorked and poured several times over three days, each night simply replacing the cork and refrigerating. It held up very well and did not deteriorate to any significant degree. Drink now-2027.

14.8% abv. Double-blinded by my brother on this. Hmm, on the nose, this seemed to have some Sangiovese character and the first sip had me going further in that direction, with kind of an acid-driven structure. Initially thought perhaps a Chianti Classico, but there was a definite jammy note on the mid-palate that had me leaning to California. Also, not much in the way of leather notes. Still, I was not thinking Zin, so my guess was 2017 Sangiovese from Amador county (my brother lives in that area and often blinds me on wines from there). Overall, I thought that this was a pretty nice red, and I placed it in 2nd out of the 5 reds in the tasting.

I wanted to try this after seeing the positive press. My first impression which is same on second night is of a cheap, generic grocery store red wine. There is plenty of fruit and a bit of leather. Nothing special, and I wouldn't purchase again.

So many reviews, so many captures, cassis, boysenberry, dark plum or cherry, licorice, "burnt oranges." Ripe grapes left to saturate the must and develop a flavor profile with character which exercises our tastebuds. Matches quite well with the Anoushka Shankar Scottish Chamber Orchestra Concert available streaming on BBC Radio 3 Feb 8, 2022, both wine and concert highly recommended.

On the nose, very herbaceous with black cherry and other dark fruits. Some bright red fruit as well as it opens up. It has a smoky element that makes it good with grilled meats or barbecue.
On the palate, it is dry but with a lot of big red fruit flavors and some stewed fruits. There is pretty decent licorice kick on the back end.
For the price point, this is a perfectly good go to table wine when you are grilling. I might get another bottle or two and put it away for a few years and see how it is then.

Good and solid like always but the wine is a bit tight right now. It looks like Seghesio is folding to the new drinkers by leaving a bit more sweetness in this wine. Buy a few of these and lay them down for a few months and you will appreciate the difference.

Hadn’t had a Zin in a while, and liked this better than some others seemed to. Should decant around 30 minutes first. Nose very tight up front, opening to cassis, burnt oranges. Palate very fruit forward from the start w dark fruit, strawberry and a little spice. Faint taste of lemon - that was a surprise. Some herbs and cherry late.
This used to be my go to crowd pleaser and introduction to Sonoma but this bottle felt less authentic and while still a crowd pleaser it seemed to be made in a more manipulated style. Very large production now.

On the nose- Big red and dark fruits, dark cherries, ripe raspberries, dark blueberries, fresh ripe plum, bramble berries, figs, boysenberry, berry jam, dark currants, baking spices, violets, oak, vanilla, nutmeg, pencil shavings, black pepper
On the palate- Big red and dark fruits, dark cherries and ripe raspberries, dark blueberries and fresh ripe plum, bramble berries and figs, boysenberry and berry jam, dark currants and baking spices, violets and oak, vanilla and nutmeg, pencil shavings and a big of black pepper. This wine is drinking KILLER being super young but I gave it over an 1hr decant and it really need all of it and opened up more as the night moved on. This wine is drinking KILLER right now but could age another 5-7 years if not longer with no problem at all.

Decanted for about an hour. Medium dark purple in color. Dusty nose of bramble, cedar, vanilla, and bacon fat. Medium-bodied, on the sweet side, and a bit flabby. Starts off with that berry filled zin profile, and then some blue fruits appear. Heavy disorganized dusty and angular tannins that resolve to black tea, cocoa, and espresso. Long dusty black tea, tart berry, mineral, and cocoa finish. If I had to sum this up in one word – disjoint.
I can’t help but think there is a decent amount of Petite Syrah in this wine – it has too many of those elements that draw me down that line. I am not too impressed by this, feels like they are trying to target the mass market given the sweetness. If there was more acid, I would say it needs some time down, but that's not the case here. Not an awful buy, but I would pass on this in the future given the much better options you can get for a few bucks more.

Garnet color. Blackberry cobbler and spice aromas. A bit lighter on the palate than usual. Boysenberry flavor and a truncated finish. Very clipped. This is a wine I’ve reviewed since the early 2000s and this is the weakest iteration I can recall. I’m a huge fan normally…88

Licorice, a little cinnamon, and stewed plum on the nose. Jammy berries, brambles, and plum. A bit sweet, but the earthy licorice and tannins give it structure. Probably should be given a little air for it to get balanced.

Brambly and fruit forward, with spicy notes of blueberries, cream, and spices. This is clearly big and borders just shy of jammy, but it has a nice balance between New World heft and competent restraint.

This did not taste pleasant upon opening. The initial flavors were overly sweet, with a fake candied finish I associate with inexpensive mass-produced CA zinfandel. However, after decanting for a bit, the fake flavors blew off and the wine has revealed itself to be much more pleasant, though still a little sweet on the finish. A nice zin, but there are much better examples at the same price point.

This is always an "easy drinker," not demanding much aging (not that it won't benefit to an extent, but not like other bottlings like Rockpile, Old Vines, etc.). Plummy/jammy, a hint of spiciness (not enough for my tastes), and virtually no tannin. A bit on the hot side.

Medium (+) taste of blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, black plum, vanilla, cinnamon and black pepper. Long and dry finish. Medium acidity. Medium tannins. Full body. A very good Sonoma Zinfandel with lots of dark fruits. Needed half an hour to open. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with beef, duck or pork.

Needed to open up a bit. Smooth and silky. Dark fruit, cherry, leather, spice. Acidic, mild tannins. Hint of cough syrup at the finish. Good, but not a keeper.

Slo-oxed for 10 minutes. Mostly dark red fruit aromas. Medium bodied palate with lots of bright red fruits, dark red fruits, and spice. The acidity is robust and balancing. Should hold for several more years.

Purchased this off the wine list at Panzano’s downtown Denver for thanksgiving dinner.
This bottle had excellent Zinfandel varietal characteristics, with spicy fruit, smokey oak, soft smooth finish. Paired well with Pazanos excellent pre fix thanksgiving dinner.

2019 Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Sonoma County, $20. Mid-garnet, viscous (14.8 alc.); ripe grape, fig, red fruit, bramble, blackberry jam nose; mid-plus acids; full tannins; mid-full body, good Zinfandel fruit; long semi-chewy finish. 16-16.5 UC Davis scale, 90-91 other scales.

Straight up saccharine these days but predominantly still smells and tastes like zin. Just in a super friendly way. Price has stayed the same so quality drop kinda puts it back into good qpr if you factor in inflation, right??? ;) lol
Traveling, my palette is shot, and don't quite want a cocktail

Brambly and fruit forward, with spicy notes of blueberries, cream, and spices. This is clearly big and borders just shy of jammy, but it has a nice balance between New World heft and competent restraint.

This did not taste pleasant upon opening. The initial flavors were overly sweet, with a fake candied finish I associate with inexpensive mass-produced CA zinfandel. However, after decanting for a bit, the fake flavors blew off and the wine has revealed itself to be much more pleasant, though still a little sweet on the finish. A nice zin, but there are much better examples at the same price point.

This used to be one of my favorite QPR Zns. Not anymore. Now just an average CA Zin overpriced. Still a good Zin, but worth no more than $12, not $19.

A really terrific American Zin that had become part of large wine portfolio by Crimson brands. That said it is awesome and enjoyable and decadenat in its creamy texture and sweetness. I would say one of the better Zin's at this price point.
