Lagrange is my benchmark wine. I don't think langoa, talbot, la croix beaucaillou, or branaire ducru exceed this wine.
Ripe, fresh, bright, and pure. Cassis and dark fruits, cherries, spice, minerality, and gravel. Subtle nuances of violets, chocolate, spice, coffee. Juicy and acidic. Sweet and pure. Tannins powdery but still young with a tinge of bitterness. Nice long aftertaste.
This one needs more time to gain elegance and come together.
Balanced. Purity + precision compared to 2018's opulence. More medium-full bodied compared to the 2018's full body.
The more this opens up the more I like it! Drank it in one night.

The 2020 Chateau Lagrange is a mini classic in the making. I popped and I decanted, and then I let it breathe for three hours. There is little tannin, but it will be many years before the fruit emerges. 90 for now, but that could go higher in another ten years. It is fairly priced at $55 a bottle.

The perfume kicks off with mint, cigar box, black and red currants, black cherries and tobacco leaves. And with all that, the wine is just getting started because it is even better on the palate with its multiple-layers of supple, fresh, vibrant, sweet, ripe fruits, elegant silky tannins, length and purity. Starting with the 2016 vintage, Lagrange has been on a hot streak and 2020 could be their best vintage yet. If you haven't tasted what they are doing, you need to grab a bottle and pull a cork! Drink from 2027-2055.

The UGC sample replicates the very strong performance last year. Fabulous nose - plummy cassis, super fresh and clean with petrichor and mineral. Those silky soft tannins make this a total charmer. Finishes really well, plum and petrichor fanning out. Long, lively, lovely.

Angenehm langer, frischer Abgang. Ein schöner Lagrange. 2026-2042+ (Verkostet am 8. November 2022 in Zürich) www.vvwine.ch

Sehr rauchiges Bukett, viel Frucht. Reife Kirschen.

2026-2038 (April/Mai 2021)

Dark garnet in color, the nose, with its tobacco leaf, cedar, cigar box, forest leaf, flowers and cassis is enthralling. Full-bodied, concentrated, big, juicy and fruity, there is a lot of life here. The fruits are ripe, creamy, spicy, long and vibrant and they not only work on the mid-palate, they carry through to the extended finish. Starting with the 2018 vintage, Lagrange has been on a hot streak. 93-95

Really wonderful things are happening at Lagrange. The 2020 is another hit, with the grand vin showing a gorgeously succulent boysenberry nose, augmented by a floral touch and a whiff of fresh espresso, so clean and full of energy. The balance here is excellent, full bodied but balanced by ripe, soft tannin and good acidity. Very cool palate with almost imperceptible alcohol. This finishes well. 93-94
A rather open and relaxed, perfumed nose, featuring leafy red fruits, sweet wood, gamey notes and spice. Juicy in the mouth, again leaning to the redder side of things, with more spice and a little toast, becoming more savoury and grippy towards the finish.

The 2020 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 03/06/2023 (Amsterdam): The wine, or this bottle, didn't convince me, a bit green impression in the bouquet and a bit lean, a decent aftertaste.
