I recently moved from Philadelphia to Houston (yeah...) and I had my considerable amount of wine shipped down, which sat in storage for a good 3-4 months. I recently opened a bunch of whites, and all were oxidized. I sat in my newly constructed cellar, dejected: I feared that somewhere along the way, all (or at least most) of the wine somehow spoiled. Thus tonight, when my wife cooked a wonderful pork tenderloin sous-vide, I was reluctantly anxious to try this wine. Looking at my previous notes, I had mixed feelings. Well, not tonight. A rich, opulent Pinot, certainly: succulent, full, big-boned, but oh so tasty. Round red fruit, balanced tartness, and even a hint of tannin on the back-end. This delivers on many levels, not the least of which is a bit more confidence in the rest of my cellar. thedrunkencyclist.com
A bit stewed on the nose, but I ignored it. There was a bit of dark red fruit on the back there, but I ignored it. Initially, on the palate, there was that stewed, even stale note. But I ignored it. I let the wine sit for a while--yeah, I ignored it. After a while, this could not be ignored:good dark berry fruit, considerable depth, and a lasting finish. If you ignore the initial impression, this is well worth it. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

This bottle was decidedly better than the previous as there was more fruit and complexity and a wonderful pairing for the grilled salmon. Still, it was a bit lacking in acidity, coming off just a bit flabby, particularly on the finish. But I nit-pick--this was Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

New World Blind Tasting Group $25+ (Bin 75): Dull ruby garnet, good clarity, lighter rim; medicinal dark cherry, sour cherry, spice; sour cherry on the palate, a little 1 dimensional, good acid, some age, cranberry, some spice on finish not enough to make this wine very interesting; meh.

I was very excited to pop this bottle since I am a very big fan of Bergstrom. We took it to a local BYOB and initially, there was not much to be gleaned other than a bit of heat and a hint of stewed berries. On the palate it was much the same, so we put a cork in it and carried it home. I poured some more as we were watching TV and it gradually opened up some. I am hoping for the sake of the other three bottles that it is just going through a bit of a “dumb” phase… thedrunkencyclist.com

Tasty Pinot, red fruits, a bit of earth and integrated structure....medium bodied and nicely balanced. Not overly complex but at a nice point in its evolution. Not sure it's going to get any better so I'll probably drink my last bottle within the year.

Not impressed again. Not a lot of pinot characters here, very modern, a bit of heat on the finish and a wine that is going downhill, I think. Even for a 2006 OR wine, this was better on release (B/B+). Very poor QPR.

Velvety, open-knit, lush. somewhat sweet and medium-full bodied upon opening, this was straight away delicious! The surprise was that this gained signficant structure and became less obviously sweet when paired with pan-seared salmon with spicy tomato vinaigrette, in addition to now flashing some tannins. Overall, an excellent Oregonian pinot noir, and providing some evidence that this can improve over 10 years, as alluded to on the back label.

The first bottle of Bergstrom I ever bought. A nice Pinot, but having tasted the full arsenal, this one was not as good as I remember the first time I tasted it. Full bodied ripe berry on the nose with a hint of pepper and earth. Cherry and chocolate predominate the palate with a touch of mushroom. Just a bit shallow in terms of tanins and finish. Good, just not great.

Unimpressive conglomeration of high alcohol, injudicious use of new oak leading to extracted aromas and flavors. Unbalanced, expensive and semi-regrettable wine. My impression of 2006 Oregon Pinot Noir is along these general lines but not to the extreme that I found with this bottling.

Popped and poured. Oaky nose, with gooey ripe strawberry and an almost high-toned cigarette ash note. Rich bodied, with light tannins and pretty good acidity. Pleasant strawberry and ripe black cherries. Definitely more in the ripe California style than the crisp Burgundian or Otago style, which I used to love, but my palate has been getting away from. The oak and alcohol heat on this are definitely overpowering, to the point of being a significant flaw in an otherwise elegant wine. $50 on clearance for $28.

"It's pinot, but not as we know it, Jim". Trying this wine blind, a friend immediately said pinot on the nose, and after tasting, guessed syrah or Southern Rhone blend. That about sums it up. But I will say it was still definitely very tasty, even if not overly pinot-like (or Oregon-like). Lots of cherry and a mixture of red and black licorice on a full bodied but nicely balanced palate (A-).

Popped and poured from a 375. Very tight on opening. A bit of heat, some cherry, and that is about it on the nose. Needs better acidity to balance. Drank 2 glasses and corked it and drank the last glass the next day. It had opened up a bit more and was giving me some earth to go with the cherry but the heat was still there. Not overly impressed with this one from Bergstrom and I have had much better but it is sill a nice Pinot. For the price I will drink others.

Shy nose, some black cherry and wet earth. Palate round and fruit driven, black cherries and currants, rather low acidity and fine integrated tannin. Lenghty complex finish, never flashy, with plenty of earth and mineral notes coming through. A nice wine on the ripe fruity side, but not overdone. However, not sure this will age.

Tart and taut, with emphasis on bing cherry and minerals, in the form of an iron or steel note. I didn't find the heat some have mentioned, but it does seem a bit disjointed and lacking focus right now. Maybe another year or two will bring it around. It did match up well with bolognese, though.

Great value and a fantastic 2006 Oregon pinot that is very Californian in style (I would not have picked this out of a lineup as a Bergstrom pinot) -- lots of ripe cherry and red fruit and a monster for a pinot. I would not want to drink this every night, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Nice light to medium red color in glass. Upon first opening rather hot. After decanting for an hour softened up. Nice red berry to the nose and palate. Don't think I would leave it in cellar too long. Will get better but not worth waiting.

Brought by friends to dinner. Deep red colour, lighter purplish at the edges. Nose is wallpaper paste, cream soda. and over-ripe red cherries . Palate is overpowering alcohol and disjointed: cold tar soap, tart black cherries and distinctly over-pronounced and unpleasant coca cola sprizzante on the back end. Might improve with time in the bottle but it has a huge distance to claw back from.

Decent pinot nose. Light to medium red in the glass. Fruit is mostly red, mainly cherry. For a reserve blend the wine was not as rich and complex as I anticipated. Acidity was O.K., tannins weere soft. Drinkable now, although I read this wine could be cellared for 15 to 20 years. Not sure this would add any benefit as I have found most Pinots are ready at the three year mark and any improvement after that point is nominal. Had better pinots for much less money.

very dry finish and spicy nose at first. Opened up nicely in the glass, lots of caramel on the nose and palette, earth to on palette, moderate finish. Didn't survive as long in the glass and got a little simple near the end. Hence, not in the Outstanding category, but excellent none the less.

Following up our visit to the winery six weeks ago with this, our first of six bottles, and we were not disappointed. A light ruby in the glass, the nose was soaring with cherries, cranberry, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of smoke. Straight out of the bottle it was also very 'bright' on the tongue with ample acidity and very well-integrated tannins. However, as this was opened after an hour, it did become both more flat and a little one-dimensional. Was definitely a better pairing to our cinnamon and smoked paprika-dusted coho salmon in the first half-hour versus the second. However, all indications are that this is going to develop wonderfully in the bottle and stand a good chance to make good on the winemaker's pledge that, properly cellared, this can benefit from 10+ years of cellaring.

Nose of tart cherries, vanilla, and some heat. The palate has tar and stemmy flavors that overtake the red fruit flavors. There is also a bit of heat on the palate. This was a real disappointment because of how much we have loved the Bergstrom Shea Pinots. Guess we'll just stick with those.

Purchased as a glass at Bin 36 in SF. This had obviously been open for awhile. Not flat tasting but smooth, accessible with rich and lush notes of dark, ripe frut with black tastes of cherry and blackberry and ending with a spicy finish. Good to Very Good.

Very good, had with Kim at Wolfgang Puck's at the Borgata in Atlantic City NJ and this complemented the primarily seafood dinner we had very well. Obviously still very young but clearly a very good wine with serious cellaring and maturing potential. Bouquet very full with pleasant floral overtones and dried spices, a little leather. Dark red, good mouth feel with a moderate aftertaste and surprisingly smooth and well integrated for such a young wine. Primary flavors included some mulling spices and other dried spices, some cedar, blueberry and some leather developing on the palate with the aftertaste. Very good, seriously recommned to any pinot lovers and should be much better in 2-3 years.

8:00 just opened: black fruits and spice immediately on the nose. Soft and round, full on the palate. Seamless, silky fruit. Clipped finish but I would imagine it will broaden out. Drank this over a 15 hour period and it did indeed broaden out. For the money I think this is probably one of the best Oregon Pinots that I have ever had.

The label said to give it 10+ years in the bottle, but since we were having this at a restaurant we could not. I was confused and bothered that Houston's steakhouse brought the bottle to the table already opened - the server claimed that it was gto expidite service. Anyhow, to the wine, it opened rather awkwardly and tart, but turned to a very pretty expression of a young pinot with notes of dusty strawberry and a bit of florality.

Here is pure Pinot fruit par excellance. Or at least to me. To me the defining factor of this producer is the comitment to biodynamics. Maybe you and I don't believe in biodynamics but there is something, something, "extra" (And I say extra in the immortal words of Madame Leroy). Seemless, precious, and chisled Pinot fruit. There is definately something to watch here. I would also add that I opened this last night and it shows best now.

Bright flower and fruit (raspberry and peach) aroma, with a bit of clove & cinnamon. Light palate of raspberry, blueberry, and peach, with some light stewed fruit spice. Flavorful yet gentle with low acidity. Finishes gentle and long. Overall light and gentle and quite refined and flavorful. Not much in the way of structure. A little alcohol hot, which is not quite perfect for the style. Neither Californian nor French, a very nice light fruit punch wine.

What can I say....this was the wine I was the most excited about tasting when I arrived. In the glass there were beautiful aromas of Bing cherry, red currant, clove, lavender, and a light hint of roses at the end. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied and simply a pleasure to taste. Flavors of sour cherry, anise, orange peel, cinnamon, and red twislers unfold into a beautiful 30+ second finish. I would highly reccomend this wine to anyone who loves Oregon Pinot Noir. While it is not a bargain at $45 I still feel that this wine warants this price point.

Absolutely LOVED the 2002 of this wine....this Winery produces some beautiful Burgundian style Pinots. The 2006 is not like the 2002, which I found had HUGE leather notes, as well as wonderful dry floral spices. No leather in 2006, but I absolutely love the dry floral spices in this wine. Smooth and plush black cherry, wild berry fruit....cherry pixy dust, clove, dried cucumber, cherry vanilla cola. A very subtle wine, not intense as their Southern Brethren. Wonderful dried sweet florals, as well as some nice dirt. Not a blockbuster right now....but darn tasty! A nice change of pace from the Cali bombs.

Medium black-red fading to pink. Aromatically dense, with cherries, spice, marred by a hint of sulfur or rubbery aromas. A forward, somewhat hot wine in the mouth, richly extracted but currently a tad tannic. Hold for 2 years.

Labeling suggests nod to Old World Pinot but is decidedly and beautifully restrained Willamette. Nice nose of candy, berry and twigs. Nice garnet color. Full bodied and moderately dry with a bit of concentrated berries counterbalanced with herbs and brambles. Firm tannis without agression. Classic and lovely. Great food wine -- cheeses, light red meats. Worth the price. 14.2% alco, cork (D 7, F 6; SoPo)

It did match up well with bolognese, though.

earthy nose; medium bodied pleasantly lean cherry with ample mineral, tannin and acid in the background; seems to have good potential to age; am i drinking a different bottle than the rest of you?

Great value and a fantastic 2006 Oregon pinot that is very Californian in style (I would not have picked this out of a lineup as a Bergstrom pinot) -- lots of ripe cherry and red fruit and a monster for a pinot. I would not want to drink this every night, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Nice light to medium red color in glass. Upon first opening rather hot. After decanting for an hour softened up. Nice red berry to the nose and palate. Don't think I would leave it in cellar too long. Will get better but not worth waiting.

Still a 92 for me, and not unhappy about having more. Shared with A&H, S&J, and L--smooth as ever, bright red cherries in lovely balance w soft tannins.
