  • Opened at Lung King Heen in HK. Stabilised upright for a few hours in advance, before being slow-oxed for 2 hours+ before enjoying over dinner.

    #初二DRC (4585/5918)

With a bit more advance planning, this performed even better than yesterday's bottle. The DRC nose was more apparent here, though I echo my previous note in saying that the fruit and whole cluster notes are wonderfully balanced. Once again however, the real winner is the palate: effortless and so clean, yet meaty with distinctive Vosne spice. Gorgeous.

There's probable upside, if you can resist opening these. But they are drinking so well now that they really are quite irresistable. Such a treat to be able to enjoy these bottles at LKH; thanks to the team and B especially for letting me open them!

  • Opened at Lung King Heen in HK. P&P but slowly enjoyed over lunch.

    #初一DRC (4588/5918)

Upon first pour, the nose was a little bit closed and it wasn't really showing its charms, even though it was still going down beautifully on the palate. However, with more air this really came into its own, revealing a gorgeous nose of red and blue fruits, accentuated by floral notes alongside a slight hint of reduction that I actually find quite enjoyable in fresh young red Burgundies.

Interestingly, even though the whole cluster influence is apparent, I actually found it less prominent than in some other DRC wines: there is more balance here, and rather than immediately presenting itself as 'DRC Nose', it is a bit more restrained here.

The palate is the true winner here: even at this young age, this is wonderfully integrated and effortless despite gaining some weight and meatiness with more air. Very fresh, laced with Vosne spice and backed with vibrant acidity, resulting in a long finish that just caresses you.

There's undoubtedly some upside here if people are willing to wait, but it is also utterly drinkable now. My only note is to make sure that you slow-ox this at least 2 hours before enjoying, as it really wakes up with some air. A wonderful way to kick off the Year of the Dragon!

  • Opened in HK. Slow-oxed for a few hours before enjoying.

With some air, this was really quite open for business. Gorgeous DRC nose - sweet, whole cluster stemmy aromatics, gorgeous red fruit and hints of tea and lychee on the back end. Going down extremely smoothly and very well integrated for a wine so young. Apparently, a lot of declassified young La Tache in this wine. You can tell!

Drinking well now but has upside, and will keep at this level at least for a decade.

    Thanks to D & V for sharing - a real treat.

  • Great color. The nose shows aromas of ripe berries, flowers, black tea, spices, minerals and a hint of oak. This is almost full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and tremendous class. The long finish features refined tannins and a mineral note.

  • Wines while dining in Montreal; 10/18/2023-10/21/2023 (Montreal, QC): PnP. Wide open for business. Quintessentially Vosne and DRC with loads of black cherry, black tea, violets, stem spice and Asian spice throughout. Rich, velvety and delicious fruit that is non-stop. Young, but pleasure-packed already. I suspect the young vines help and allow this to show so well already.

  • I have heard varying things about this wine and the way it wears its oak treatment. I felt this bottle was in a very good spot pretty much right out of the bottle. High-toned, glossy red fruits. The wine is polished in all the characteristic DRC ways.

With that being said, the wine does show the heat of the vintage and seem to lack the supporting structure / concentration of the older vines. Everyone is hugely excited for the Petit Monts, but back of the napkin math--to my mind--suggests a higher proportion of GC fruit in this cuvee beginning in 18 and 19 as ostensibly they would have been bottled together in the previous vintages?

  • Consumed during a late-night, post-wedding tasting at the fantastic Penny’s Wine Shop in Richmond, VA. Auspiciously bottle #804.

A worrisome start as it was very muted out of the bottle. Decided to decant while we drank a 2012 Raveneau MdT, which was not impressive as it had been sitting (open) in the belly of a CRJ for 36 hours in July.

With an hour in decanter, the wine totally transformed. Beautiful nose, powerful red fruit, spice, sous bois, everything you want in a red burg.

Palate was incredibly concentrated and structured, young and meaty, but so incredibly vibrant, with the animalism that you really only get from DRC.

A beautiful experience, substantially elevated by friends new and old with whom to share it. 95 / 100.

  • 04489/5918, third time is a charm. Incredibly meaty and concentrated, best of the three bottles yet. Blue and red fruit, cherry, all spice, pepper, game, smoky, pepper, cardamom, crushed peppercorn. So juicy with purity and precision of this legendary vintage. Mellow, silky, spicy. Perfect pairing with the pigeon like a mini Richebourg. 94-95

  • Deep transparent ruby, no rim variation
On the nose, animal blood, blended with hawthorns, forest floor, faint rose
    On the palate, raspberry dominant
    Super super silky mouthfeel
BEAUTIFUL, but very young for now
    Med++ finish
Opened with old + new friends at Lazy Bear

15mins in so much more sandalwood + rose and the animal blood blew off

Overall it is most def an elegant wine for pure & full enjoyment, not to the level of transcendant, and totally would go for it again; but also there probably are more experiences out there for sure ;)

  • 00501/5918. Fun to revisit this wine, showing better than when it was just released. Whole cluster red fruit, cherry, lots of stem, animalistic, vanilla, pure, large. Incredibly structured and complex edition of this cuvée with all the vintage perfection behind it. Quite sweet on day two, will need time. 94-95

  • A good wine but nowhere as good as Petits Monts DRC 19. Starts strong but mid palate is a bit tame. In isolation great though mind you just with context lacking a bit.

  • DRC 2019 Vintage Presentation: Discrete nose, ripe red cherry, some cinnamon, medium complexity and relatively light on the mid palate.

  • Tasted in a arrivage tasting of all DRC 2019. Overall, the 2019s DRC are beautifully perfumed, very ripe wines, but they also carry a nice vein of acidity that is making them brighter and fresh. The bottles show incredible class, but also a certain ripeness that might be something that needs getting used to for purists. I thought that the terroir was showing beautifully, despite the ripeness of the year. The wines seemeed very different and true to their cru, especially at the beginning of the tasting and again with quite some air. In between the differences were just a tiny bit muddled.
Drank alone, I might have rated it even higher, but this really suffered from being a „very good wine“ surrounded by epic bottles. Beautifully perfumed, seductive and sexy, this is showing explosive notes of Vosne spices, dark cherries, ripe darker berries, some new leather and some dark chocolate too. Medium-full bodied, but lacked the depth of some of the other wines, medium-high acidity and medium+ very silky tannin Very good length. A beautifully seductive and perfumed VR 1er Cru.

  • Hideously corked. First young DRC that's been corked in as long as I can remember, and it was totally undrinkable. Hopefully this is an anomaly and DRC didn't get a batch of bad corks. Fortunately for us we ordered this at a restaurant and were not charged for the flawed bottle.

  • Young but delicious. Nice structure and acidity, style reminded me more of d’angerville wines than of the DRC I’ve had, but this is my first time with DRC 1er cru and also my first time drinking DRC so young. Special wine, but quite pricey for what it is at this stage. Will surely evolve into something more interesting with time.

  • Initially some oak on the nose, but it disappears quite quickly. Deep, dark fruit with good concentration. Expressive, dark cherry notes, spices, chalk. Very young indeed, but nonetheless delicious to try now. The tannins are soft and silky. Le Beaugravière with Johnny et al.

  • Opened and decanted 4 hours before drinking. What a wine! Subtle acidity, hint of leather and red and purple fruit. Some liquorice and blackberries on the rear palate. Like drinking liquid silk. Absolutely wonderful wine, such a testament to Burgundy.

  • Tasted over two days, better on day 2. This is both chalky and intense. The fruit is deep, almost dark, some oak is showing, very charming PN sweetness, hitting the nerve, hints of whole cluster here as well ...

  • Deep dark fruited nose with some spice. Not quite as fruity on the palate, where it is a bit more austere and becomes somewhat disjointed.

Very tight at first and then opened up over a few hours to become enjoyable.

This has great potential, just young obviously (rated at its current stage, not future potential). Fwiw had a 2019 D’Angerville Clos des Ducs the night before this and it was far superior, at least at this early stage.

  • 00241/5918, bottle breathed for four hours. Whole cluster stem aromatics with purple fruit and rose petal. Classically toned DRC if the lightly bruised fruit is still in its baby fat stage. I like the delicate texture and the fullness on the palate, which I did not find in past vintages. Weight is 1er cru but within that there are explosive sparks. 94-95
