Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Meaty (Bovril), vegetal notes, sous bois, sweet spice, soy sauce, leather, touch of dried out brambly fruit, bruised apple oxidised notes, close to fully tertiary on the nose - smells drink up. Fleshy, juicy, touch of soy and mushroom on the finish. Drink up in the mouth as well.

Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. A tiny initial floral note is quietly replaced by savoury, meaty notes, brambles, freshly tilled earth, leather, Asian five spice and aa little red currant note. Sourly juicy, meaty, brambles and dried out blackcurrant, Asian five spice, tight, slightly green and hard tannic grip lends a chewy note to the palate. Complex and interesting.

Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier; 2/23/2022-3/6/2022 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Very slightly bretty with farmyard funk, red fruit cordial, earth, leather, tobacco leaf, a little smoky. And it proves quite dense on the palate, medium plus intensity acidity, chewy tannins, tobacco leaf, leather red over black fruit, meaty underpin, long. Hmm.

Super clean label. Popped and poured at a restaurant. Perhaps the wine of the night (10 in total). This seems strange now after reading the tasting notes of others on CT. Perhaps I got lucky with a well stored bottle?

Nicht dunkelrot, elegante, Typ Bdx-Nase- kein Stinker Säure und Frucht noch gut präsent, gute Struktur erfreuliche 12%, also kein Schwergewicht. Trinkvergnügen!

Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge; 8/4/2020-8/12/2020 (My place, Kent Street): Meaty and savoury, gamey in fact, with brambly black fruit, clay, wet earth, leather with time a little high toned note and a touch of mushrooms, forest floor and black tea on the nose. Sourly juicy, chalky tannic burr with the meaty, mushroomy note and brambles persisting beneath this. Hmm.

Irrelevant during the first hour of consumption. Shortly thereafter, it somehow gained strength and tasted, believe it or not, like a young, unrefined Swiss wine. Overall, you should give it a pass.

Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Meaty, earthy, funky, spicy, very savoury with a little red and black currant under this. With time some sweet spice starts to show and the fruit grows. In the mouth it's equally meaty with liquorice, sour though not overtly acidic, black fruits backed by a little cream. Tannins are chewy (say medium plus intensity) but quite silky textured. The wine is a bit out of whack for me. Hmm.

On the nose, the wine is clean with a medium intensity. There are well-defined aromas of vegetable (green capsicum, jalapeño) and bottle age (leather). Swirling reveals notes of under-ripe black fruit (blackberry). The wine is developing.
On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium(+) level tannins are unripe, astringent, and grippy. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of under-ripe black fruit (blueberry, blackberry) and vegetable (green capsicum). The finish has a medium(+) length.
This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a great balance with the acidity and the alcohol. The neutral oak treatment does not interfere with the flavour profile. The unripe tannins are green and stalky, but have a great balance with the acidity and are consistent with the under-ripe flavour profile. The wine shows some complexity with tertiary characters appearing on the nose. The finish is balanced and has great length. The flavours indicate a cooler vintage with an under-ripe expression of fruit and green tannins; the typical herbaceous aromas of Cabernet Sauvignon were quite prominent.
Can drink now, but has potential for ageing. The under-ripe features will remain, but the tannic structure and acidity can support the wine while additional tertiary notes develop.

Coravin fun - Bordeaux + ring in & Dom. de Chevalier (Kennards, Waterloo): From Coravin. Hmm, something almost funky and meaty here. Not cork taint but not quite right. A little rotten, like someone has been sick in an old car with worn leather upholstery. More of the same on the palate and it is exceedingly sour. FLAW

{cork, 12%} Similar to my 2010 note, which is to say aged, soft, gentle, although finishing with gentle astringency rather than any complexity of flavour. Rather hollow and fairly short-finishing too. Very genteel. Great looking cork at 20 years too; only damp for about 20% of its length.

Yikes! Quite stinky from the start. Light colored, lots of bricking. Green herbaceous nose that was rather off-putting (I like green herbaceous noses). Palate is thin and astringent, with little fruit. Finish is short and not enjoyable as the green notes turns bitter. I can enjoy most past-prime bdx, but not this.

The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium (12%). A wonderful perfumed aroma. It smells like Black currant (cassis), Oak, and Vanilla. It tastes like and Black currant (cassis). There were still some light tannins upon opening, which disappeared with time. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Round texture. The wine finishes Medium.

My bottle was a magnum and I was really hoping it would be better than some of the bottles tasted by others the last three years. It was OK minus.... The smell was actually promising. The fruit was probably thin from the start, but now it is almost gone. Therefore unbalanced. Absolutely drinkable, but significantly worse than a 2000 Cru Burgois from Ch Coufran that we had at the same time.

{cork, 12%} Garnet with a fading rim. A dry and dusty nose, a bit fungal and compost-like. There was red fruit here once. But that was years ago. The palate is pretty thin now, with ancient tannins fading away to give prominent but soft acid its head. At least even across the palate - no mean feat - but it's all pretty low voltage. Still drinkable, but one-dimensional. Bottoms up.

Slightly oxidized, brownish tinge. The Cork had started to crack internally. Almost no body, the only remaining flavours was a hint of oak. Definitely past the drinking point. Might be useful as a cooking base still

As I'm walking down my street today I see a moving van parked - loading up - and on the sidewalk a pile of trash which included three and a bit more cases of Bordeaux. So I ask the movers if this is trash and they say yes. The other fellow who was on the case and I split the wine more or less. So this wine was in the pile. How is it? Well, above all it was FREE. If a wine is still alive - marginally - but it was free, where is the beef? Oxidation is apparent, but not quite enough to overcome some tobacco earthy notes. Went fine with pizza. Own it? Drink it real quick or give it to your in-laws.

Light colour. Delicate nose. Slightly sour taste. Definately on the way down - I was expecting a much deeper full on wine for a Pessac. Nevertheless still had slight aromas of well integrated fruit but this really needs to be drunk now. A shame because the father in law has about 24 bottles of this stuff.
