not blind, disg. 18, at the winery I prefer most time his BdB compared to Maillon even Pierrieres is his "weakest" site. Flintstone, some biscuit but still really fresh. 94

Off the list at Ganbara. A racy and crisp Extra Brut that suits the Chardonnay fruit nicely. Solid richness and depth, particularly as this opens up with air. Not my favorite style of Champagne, but this delivers nicely in the low dosage style.

Medium yellow. Lively, fine bead. Oak toast, citrus, and herb scents. Medium weight, lemony, penetrating, full of soil, and actually a bit tart. I think this still needs time in bottle to soften and round out. In the short term, decant and avoid serving it too cold.

Pear, floral with lovely high tone bouquet, expansive and weighty on the palate with a savory finish. Acid a tad prominent despite the age. Opening up after time in the glass showing almonds. The kind of champagne to enjoy slowly over dinner as it opens up.

Mainly good white Burgs: 2018 disgorgement. Generous starter brought by a friend for champagne day. This had a wonderful balance between richness and acidity that was typical of the producer. Some almond notes, the ripeness and weight, together with the redder fruit made me think this was Pinot-heavy blend - not the the first time I have guessed wrongly from Collin and I suspect won't be the last. Drinking well now.

The excellent 2018 disgorgement. 2014 based 48 month sur lattes Les Pierrieres is electric. It’s simply just a complete Champagne. It displays a stunning crystalline purity and a seamless combination of richness and elegance. It’s layered with white flowers, fresh brioche, lemon candy and site signature chalky minerals with fantastic persistence, cut and texture. A little age goes such a long way with these wines. Terrific bottle!

At Hostellerie la Briqueterie. Second to last bottle. Wow this is really delivering. A pointed mineral nose that is also rich—something like graphite and a very subtle touch of sweet Hawaiian white flowers (plumeria) and gingerbread. Palate is very drying with mineral elements. More powdered stone than fruit here. Very elegant and satisfying. Had wanted to see what all the fuss was about and yep I get it in this case.

not blind Olivier Collin's wines age greatly as this example shows. Many guessed a lot PM/PN inside. But this BdB is powerful and elegant likewise. Really Burgundy style but not too much oak and not oxidative as Selosse. A lemon monster with some association to Clos du Mesnil because of the discreet honey note. 96

I know this won’t last, but last night this punched well above its weight—outshining the still too young 2008 dom perignon even. Lemon and white pepper . Creamy and fine bead. Regretfully only one or two left.
Disgorged 2018. This has a noticeably oxidative nose-a bit more than typical even for Collin- but this is the good oxidation, the Krug reserve sort that adds complexity and keeps your nose in the glass. The really interesting thing about this wine is how clearly it expresses the chardonnay grape (even with the oxidative component to the nose.) So often in champagne I find that varietal character is completely overwhelmed by the winemaking style but the chardonnay is front and center here. Not sure on the blend of base year and reserve wines here but I really love the balance between pure and oxidative fruit.

Popped and poured. Big mousse. Very fresh and youthful. Lots of citrus (lime, lemon), green apple, apricot and peach. Mouth feel was crisp and zesty. Surprisingly not much taste of yeasts and bread. Overall a great sparkling wine.

Les Pierrières i noticed need 6 to 7 years at least to begin to show what they have in the core...this really showed well as the initial acidity of young days has come down a tad and replaced by brioche type flavors...delicious...this is a 2014

Lot 14/2, no 135, disg 03/2018. An absolutely stunning BdB. On the nose: ginger, a slightly oxidative apple note, though dripping with citrus, drizzled with vanilla, soft coppery tones. Fantastic complexity. On the palate: lemon oil, lime, ginger, leaning toward ginger beer with the mousse, peach, vanilla. Tangy finish, wow.

Madrid. A little reductive but super firm, intense and lovely. A wonderful inner core of richness I haven't always found in this wine. This vintage will be awesome in a few years, need to stock up.

Some Birthday wines (St. Anselm DC): This was beautiful, young but beautiful. Gorgeous depth but super zesty. Crunchy fruit meets honeyed, leesy depth, along with complex chalk dust, minerals and biscuits. I'd love to see what this does in 10 years.

Vinous London dinner, January 2020 (La Trompette): Really crisp and youthful, lime to the fore (but the acidity is in perfect balance), lots of drive and potential.

Nice zip to it so this definitely has the structure to age. Young but developing well.
Refined bubbles, lean and transparent. Easy to down and it was gone quickly at #jalan wedding.
