  • Pretty mature now, medium gold color from a bottle with a ~1.5 cm fill, saturated cork and some signs of seepage (not uncommon due to overfill). This lacks the punch of Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Graacher Himmelreich, but shows pretty peach and pineapple notes, with lower than expected acidity for the vintage. Lacks a bit of balance, but not bad.

  • (Mostly) Spätlese dinner at Proxi (Chicago, IL): #11-02, 8% abv. Probably my least favourite of the Prüm flight. This was initially a little dirty but did seem to clean itself up with some time. The nose showed the ripest of the flight, and the fruit a little more browned. Less of an acidic cut as well, this overall felt clumsy, especially next to the very elegant Himmelreich and the ethereal Sonnenuhrs.

  • Still incredibly primary with piercing acidity and bright fruits. Just the barest hint of development on the nose. The acidity actually pokes out a bit if I'm being a stickler. This gets high marks for its purity and freshness but ultimately it is not as deeply mineral as you may want - perhaps that's just Badstube speaking as opposed to say the Sonnenuhr.

  • Light golden color; nose is aromatic, petrol, white fruit, floral; palate is light bodied, medium sweetness, medium-plus acid, lemon-lime through midpalate; medium finish. This is a very nice riesling, seems at maturity with some secondary/tertiary complexity, and with excellent balance. 90

  • Shockingly good. Bright prickly acids, pure orchard fruits, and minerals. Superb balance and highly drinkable.

  • Pale yellow gold with a nose of honeysuckle, quince and minerals. Medium to full body with flavors of pineapple, pear and slate. Seems to have the appropriate level of sweetness for a spätlese (as in, not a declassified auslese) but less acidity than I would have expected from the vintage. Seems to be in a good place in its drinking window, but not yet showing much in the way of secondary flavors. Moderate finish, and a nice wine overall, but could use a bit more persistence and energy. Certainly outclassed in my opinion by Prum's Graacher and Wehlener späts.

  • Slow-oxed about three hours. Showing really well. Sweet peach, pear, and golden apple fruit aromas with a bit of a floral note. In the mouth the wine is intense, concentrated, and rich, with good but non-obtrusive acid and perfect balance. Somehow Prum gets that distinctively impeccable mouth-coating feel without being the least bit heavy. Excellent if still quite primary and nowhere near peak.

  • DC Crew's Gem Tasting - 3rd Annual (Palena - Washington, DC): The nose on this riesling showed oil, lemons and nuts. The palate seemed a bit flatter than I was expecting. Lovely salty flavor to accent the oil, lemon and nutshell flavors.

  • Consumed with my Thanksgiving meal, so no formal notes, but won universal acclaim from wine geeks and novices alike. Great acidity balances the still significant sugars. A bit of sulfur comes through when it warms up, but overall a lovely drink. Still very young, fresh, and vibrant.

NOSE: incredibly expressive notes of petrol and peach are supported by a slight pineapple and pear aromas. I’d be happy just smelling this wine.

BODY: initial spritz dissipates quickly; golden amber-yellow color; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: apple; pretty one-note/not terribly complex; good minerality; palate not as complex as the nose; very nicely balanced; a bit mouth-watering; fig on finish (40-50 sec.); 8% alc. not noticeable. A very nice Spat. that seems to be in a wonderful place right now.

  • This was absolutely delicious. Classic aged Riesling petrol flavors with bright pear, pineapple, green apple. This holds a nice viscous body leading into the mid-palate where it disappears quickly but leaves behind a beautiful light acidic finish with a burst of citrus in the finish, like I bit right into a slice of fresh lime. The wife and I enjoyed this with some curry and this wine was a perfect match, the acid on the end cleaned the heat right out and left only sweetness. So good. Drink at room temp or just below for best results, chill this down to far and you will lose the good stuff.

  • Lovely wine, consumed with Thai cuisine. At the beginning of it drinking window, no sulphur, so that's good. Still coming togeher a bit, but lovely delicate minerally flavors, and a long finish.

  • Still fresh and lively, the nose of classic aged riesling petrol along with dried apricot. The wine is moderately sweet wtih mandrin, brown sugar, floral and even some lemon zest components. There is enough acidity that when cold, the wine hits the tongue and feels spritzy, almost like ML in the bottle carbonation. Very good and probably at it's peak, although I admit I do not have a track record with aging German Spatlese.

  • Pale straw color.
On the nose, petrol, wet stones, baked apples and a bit of spice. No detectable sulfur.
On the palate, tropical fruits, minerals and some saltiness. Great mouthfill with layers of fruits, good acidity and a medium finish. This is open for business!
Makes me want to open the W.S or G.H bottlings.
    I should have bought more...

  • Nice sweetness, not overtly so. Grapefruit, quince and other citrus fruits on a good core of acidity.
