Dark golden yellow. Distilled turnip liquor nose. Bright, hot but narrow energy. Finish, perfunctory. 02’s were austere & a challenge at 15 yrs but still had characteristic chenin fruit. Wine indeed, not flawed but not optimistic about remaining bottles.

This is my 5th (and last) bottle of this wine. I'll say it has not held up well to time. All of the bottles I've had over the last 5 years have been overly mature. By comparison the Baumard Papillon 2005 from screwcap that I've also been drinking has been fresh and lively and youthful. This bottle is not as bad as some. Showing baked apple, yogurt, wool, beeswax. Broad and mellow with a hint of lemon acid and fresh cut grass. Not great concentration, faded fruit. Nutty finish.

This bottle was really good and showing just a little bit of oxidation unlike the flabby and heavily oxidized bottles I've had recently from other vintages. I'm not sure what exactly has caused the tremendous variability of these wines (which seems to have hit this vintage as well judging from some of the notes below) but I think I'd rather take my chances with Huet and even Joly until I get comfortable that these high rates of severe premox are behind them.

Nowhere near done. So much life ahead of it! Odd winemaking with 50% of grapes picked just before they are ripe and 50% picked after they are affect by botrytis. Bruised apples, slight bitterness, blue cheese, and an amazing unctuousness to it. Spectacularly good and how Chenin Blanc should be.

Closel and Evelyne de Pontbriand (Le Caveau, Chamblee, GA): Lanolin, minerals, and botrytis are joined by a little melon rind, it is sharp and precise on the palate, which seems incongruous based on the ample botrytis on the nose. It takes a little time to get used to, and is more linear and austere in style than the 2013, but is still quite nice.

This wine ages so effortlessly, still could use a few years, great example of Chenin, lemon galore, minerals, salty blue stone, seashell, cream and a nice long finish with good acidity. Great value but requires patients first.

Slightly oxidized, but seemed to mellow a bit after being open for an hour. Still great acidity and minerality. Lemons, flowers and apricots and wet stone.

Decanted at 11 AM and tasted here and there over the course of the afternoon; drunk with dinner. Better than I expected, to be honest. The wine has restrained and lovely honey and thyme aromas, no heat whatsoever (and the alcohol is listed at 14.5%). There is also a strong mineral element, like the salty and chalky aspect of a wine from the cote de blancs. That said, it comes across as a bit brutish. This is good wine, but it's not something I want to drink often.
Comes across as very oxidized and almost undrinkable on day one, but really made a nice recovery over a few days in the fridge. By day 4, most of the oxidized notes are gone and the wine is rich with honey and apple notes buyoed by fading acidity. Very much reminded me of one of Nicolas Joly's wines. I'm holding out hope that this wine is just going through a "stage"...

Wow, this is a mess. The alcohol is overbearing at 14.5% (and I bet it's actually higher) and there is little detail or definition in the way of aromatics or flavors. This is big messy wine that doesn't distinguish itself in any way. truly disappointing.

full bodied, complex and interesting, but too much oxidization for me. might get better later, but i'm guessing that won't go away. might try different vintage of same producer, but don't buy more of this one. finish isn't great.

much better than the last bottle, whichwas clearly bad. this one was deep golden with a hint of oxidation. honey and mineral on nose. good acid and great balance. pretty full boddied. like some other savennieres, i'd probably not pour for a dinner party, but i'd buy more for myself.

Bright, wide, yeasty with a lemony edge and an oxidative finish. Wax and a bit of honey. Hopefully this will mature into something more interesting but at the moment I find it disappointing. B-

Nose: Clean, crisp, tiny floral - almost hoppy Mouth: acid and mineral, the cold wet, slate and a certain chalkiness. Something slightly acrid on the finish but a great compliment to mussels in a white wine & cream sauce. This was not as good as I remembered it being last time I had it.

Simon’s: Light unroasted almonds, hay, something I perceive as a slight gasoline note (I a good way!); After that, clear pineapple and lemon came through with great structure. Medium body, silky mouth, and an ever so slight nutty bitterness in the end. Very long fin. Will age well 3-5 yrs

Didn't take any formal notes but remember a wonderful explosion of honey, fruit and flavour on the mid palate and an incredibly long finish underpinned by flinty minerality. So good it made me laugh out loud with pleasure. Very, very impressed.

Medium golden color. Light aromas of quince and honey with flavors of the same with a bit of minerality in the mouth. Perhaps this wine could stand a bit of time to weight up but the fruit is so light or it is not there at all.

the fruit is so very ripe and the wine is quite dry (high alcohol level as a result, at almost 15% and I wouldn't be surprised if it were higher). great concentration, purity, and length here. the flavors are still very much tightly coiled and inward, and the result is a palate overflowing with baby fat and ripe apricots and sap. the odd thing is that the typical mineral beeswax quinine stuff is completely missing. is that because the wine is so young, because of the incredible ripeness and dominant fruit of 2005, or is there something else, a change in style at closel going on? too early to really evaluate this wine, but it has wonderful potential.

Too young to figure out exactly what's going on here, but the component parts of this wine are delicious and interesting. The nose is powerful with wax, citrus oils, quinine, and something herbal, like fennel? It changes a lot over a few hours, emphasizing flowers for a moment, quinine the next. Weighty mouthfeel, full bodied and round. Intense flavors of citrus oils and lanolin (honestly smells like the A&D ointment I use for my daughter's diapers), wax, and melon. Still disjointed and a little out of focus. Very promising though. Probabaly his should sit for a few years at least - better to enjoy the Jalousie while young.

Opened yesterday, see note. Today there’s chenin wool, petrol supported by bright sweet fruit. Finish is curt, unapologetic, businesslike.
