This was really tasty. Decanted for 30 min or so. Poured red with an orange tint in the glass, some bricking. Slightly cloudy. Not a strong nose, but hints of black tea and raspberry. But much more red fruit on the palate, with some orange rind and prune. Maybe not as pure as I expected. But really good, resolved tannins - and held up and held its own in between a 2019 saxum white and a 2012 Darioush cab.

Notes from 2020: "Medium/dark purple color, slightly opaque. Amazing nose, dark berry, spices, garrigue, floral/violet...had to linger with the nose for a bit. Palate shows sweet raspberry, blackberry compote, cola(?), candied flower, underbrush, slight mineral..."
Notable on this tasting was the sweet raspberry, cinnamon and baking spices. Decant coaxed these out, it was really showing well. Crowd loved this wine, toss up on WOTN with a 2014 Saxum Broken Stones.
Last mag from this vintage. 2007 has its detractors as too modern/big. This one pulled off the balance of expressive fruits/spice while maintaining elegance. Well stored bottles still have a long drinking arc ahead of them

L oustalet in gigondas, lunch Time. Suggestion of the very capable sommelier. Pop and pour. Perfect pairing with the ravioli truffle dish. Deep ruby color. On the nose lots of Sweet pepper, chocolate, mint, caramel, dried black current, wet forest floor. Med acidity, full body, high alcohol, Med+ flavor intensity, dryish tannins, med finish. Beautiful dried fruits, minty milk chocolate, nice minerality. Very balanced and nice lingering finish. Simply excellent.

Delicious- so much fruit still left in it, and so, so smooth. I’m not sure I’d have guessed that this was CNDP if given it blind (not necessarily a good thing!) - none of that trademark kirsch, and more black fruits than red/cherry. But absolutely delicious and brilliantly balanced, with easily 10/15+ years left in the tank.

Dark opaque ruby-purple but with some fade and bricking; soft, smooth, rich, with a good tangy finish, great condition for this age. Lawry's DD CdP dinner.

Broached with a little trepidation because I've had mixed results with this producer: sometimes fabulous, sometimes unpleasant (and rarely in between). This one was fabulous. Dark berry compote, licorice, a little earthiness and quite a bit of spice. Somehow both rich and exuberant: dense, layered and full-bodied, but supple. Great bottle.

Medium/dark purple color, slightly opaque. Amazing nose, dark berry, spices, garrigue, floral/violet...had to linger with the nose for a bit. Palate shows sweet raspberry, blackberry compote, cola(?), candied flower, underbrush, slight mineral...(descriptors came from the crowd) just a lot going on...velvety texture, full body and long finish.
Seems there is varied experience with some of the tasters. maybe stylistic preferences? In this case I think the decant made the difference in letting the wine settle and open up. On this evening, the wine killed...

Big, concentrated, lush and luscious, the wine is full-bodied, long and rich. The wine feels great on your palate. Even with all its power and density, it's elegant in nature. But with air, the nose and palate took on a noticeable overripe fig note, which was not working for me.

Very big, concentrated, hot vintage, was not my fav of the night. Lacking notes, but the first "classic" more modest younger CdP's stole the show, like the Vieux Telegraph '16 and Pegau '12. This flight the Caillou and Deus ex Machina St. Jean were disappointing. The Clos des Pape '07 however was my WOTN. Green Street Tavern with EWG.

On the bright side, first bottle in three over the years that was not horribly corked. This was like super massively concentrated CdP, dark and thick as motor oil, brooding, and almost sweet in its richness. While it did have some garrigue, the black fruit was overwhelmingly monolithic beyond the first couple sips. I do not doubt it was well made, but also is well beyond stylistically what I can appreciate, and certainly went with nothing on the table. Perhaps some more acidity would balance the massiveness enough to make it more tolerable, but I'd probably be passed out drunk if I drank more than a glass or two anyway.

{Magnum, popped and poured, tasted over 3 hours, bought on release in prof. storage, perfect fill} Very attractive nearly sexy nose, kirsch, not over-ripe though like some 2007s, long red-fruited palate with garrigue and very fine tannins. C9duP2007 tasting @ my friend’s “the judge”. Probably my highest scoring tasting ever with 94.7 as an average of 18 wines. (@ VD): In the bouquet beautiful red forest fruits, garrigue and rustic flavors. On the palate a full bodied and rich wine with good fruits, a touch of sweetness followed by beautiful garrigue and great acidity. Beautiful and round tannin as well. The wine is extremely harmonious with refinement and complexity. A great beauty now, but plenty of future as well. The rustic flavors included, this is a very complete and beautiful wine reaching out to perfection.

(Popped and poured.) What a nice wine. A very deep ruby color with flashes of purple. Classic and refined nose of dark fruits, herbs (thyme and anise), flowers, chocolate and just a trace of gaminess. Very rich on the palate without being heavy. Ripe black fruit and mocha flavors have a freshness and brightness missing from many CdPs of this vintage. Sweet and agreeable tannins on the long finish. Over the course of three hours it proved more and more elegant and beautifully proportioned. Very stylish and sexy. In fact, it reminded me of the 2009 Clos des Papes, only a bit richer and more layered. While not nearly mature (give it a few more years), this glorious wine would be perfect with aged beef or something more exotic. 97 points.

2007 CDPs Tasting (Crystal Wines): Alcohol :: 14.5% Tasted Single blind. Double decanted for 5hrs. Despite being double decanted for at least 5hrs, this powerful, structured wine is still shy on the nose and tight on the palate but showing. The spicy aromas is Intense with good depth that display a hint of kirsch liquor, fresh herbs and deep dark fruits at the background with inner sweetness. Full bodied, very powerful with tremendous intensity but never heavy as the balance is perfect here with remarkable freshness, purity. The inner perfume of violet and lavender that surrounded by layered of sweet dark fruits and complex savory meatiness all underpinned by the massive, chewy tannin that is perfectly ripe and well integrated. It slowly build up towards the powerful, long finish with mineral and glycerin. This is a magnificent Caillou that boasted with finesse and poised. 93-95

First wine chateau Gigognan 2005, vigne du regent. Then we poured this: extraordinary nose with game, licorice, kirsch, dark berries. On palate: Best CdP i have had for ages. cooked dark berries, but not in the negative sense (not jammy), licorice, shag tobacco, herbes des provence, white pepper. Feels like port on the front dorsum of the tonue. More than one minute finish. I suspect this will merit a perfect score in 10 years, although it is irresistibly ready to drink now... Enchanting, exotic deep, rich ripe blackberry and plum compote and exotic spices layered with violets, brush and a hint of smoke and leather - wow. Intensely rich, creamy and sweet black cherry jam cut with bitter chocolate and minerality. The tannins are huge but ripe and can't quite break through the massive amount of fruit. The finish that does not end echoes the sweet fruit and chocolate moving to coffee and minerals.

2007 Chateauneuf tasting at Beltramos: Darker than the Safres, big, rich, deep, lush, slightly ripe, sweeter finish, some spice. An example of "too much of a good thing", here's a case where making a single wine would almost certainly be better overall than dividing into smaller cuvees.
