Strange defect in this. Initially very yeasty, almost spritzy. Improved with air and we did drink it, as it was not unpleasant but it was definitely not showing as it should. Sweet, yeasty.

Found in the forgotten depths of my cellar....The nice thing about buying 3-12 bottles of wine and storing over a number of years is watching them develop and mature. This is the last of six bottles purchased back in 2009...and by far the best. Nearing maturity and hitting on all cylinders. Completely ready to drink with complexity showing through with lots of tertiary notes: dried red flowers; dried raspberries, ripe cherries, stewed plums and crushed garrique; accentuated with ripe compost. Palate is lively with very good integration of fruit and structure. Finishes medium plus. Should drink well for another 2-3 years, if cellared properly.

Winefield's, Pre-sale tasting: Still cherries in the bouquet and even in the taste, there combined with kirsch; the aftertaste is firm and has a certain balance, but what worries me a bit is the amount of alcohol in the midtaste. At least you have tot taste this wine a bit chilled tot minimize the effect of the alcohol, but than you have a wine with a nice personality.

I'm quite surprised... Of course 2007 is a great C9DP vintage but this shows pretty old after opening. But with some air it shows to be a nicely matured Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Don't wait any longer, it's on the way back.

Decanted 30 minutes. Clearly from a warm vintage. Lots of fruit up front. Liquorice, tar and some herbs. Not bad. On the palate a bit clumsy. The alcohol shines through at times. Still enjoyable and one of the better 2007 ch9dp I've had lately.

Sadly this bottle was just like the one before it, which is to say something had gone horribly awry. There was a distinct effervescence on the tongue as if were carbonated. This sensation gets in the way of everything else except for a syrupy sweetness. In the end it's basically semi-sparkling grape juice. As this was the second such bottle in a row I was tempted to actually score it but looking at other recent notes I must surely conclude that these bottles were flawed.

Nothing wrong with the fruit. It is big and modern with ripe dark berries, figs, licorice etc. Oak well integrated by now. So far so good. The problem is the 16% alcohol, that makes this wine heavy. After one glass you feel that you have had enough. I went back to the bottle the day after, but had the same experience. Sorry, not my cup of tea.

Decanted the bottle few houres before diner. I chilled it to 18 degrees celcius. Alcohol is very high, 15%, if wine is too warm this is getting the upper hand. Liquorice, bit of blackberries, soft tannins.

Fifth bottle of six purchased back in 2009. Although this seems to have gradually improved, it's still tight and shy until it's had at least a two hour decant. Starting to show some slight signs of bricking. Notes consistent with my May 2013 notes. Pretty good but seems to lack the aromatics, power, and elegance of most of the top flight CdPs, especially given the great 2007 vintage. May improve slightly with more bottle time, but for now, I recommend a good decant as it needs air.

Good. Expectation may have been a little high after reading my last note. Marked bricking and rather light in appearance. Classic CdP nose. In this particu;ar case the '07 vintage is showing in alc rather than fruit. A fair degree of interest that should be revisited in 2016. Had with cajun chicken burgers and the wine burnt everything.

Blackfruits and currants. Savory with balanced tannins and an expansive mouthfeel. More of an old world CDP. High Alcohol (although not much notable heat). I would drink in the next 5 years. Although I like it, I don't know if the savory flavors (which are its strong point now) will fade and the fruit just won't develop to make it more complex.

There's been quite a lot of talk that Barroches wines don't age well. Now, I don't know if you can talk about aging well when the wine is less than six years old, but this one has not suffered at all. Quite the contrary as it has shed the baby fat and pronounced the wine's structure and acidity. The fruit is more than alive, but is has more nuances today with strawberryfied cherries and something close to apricot. There's a nice touch of garrigue/licorice, acidity is fine and there is tannin to give backbone. Very nice Chateaneuf towards the lighter end of the scale.

Felt a bit gas pressure inside the bottle when uncorking it; faint apple and cherry aromas at first, but turned into stronger and stronger funky soy sauce smell, rather persistent and unyielding even after in the decanter for hours; on the palate, quite chewy and meaty with overly ripe dark fruits; ok, that's it, this bottle had probably gone south, so no score here; bad cork? secondary fermentation? beats me; the only thing I was sure about was this wasn't a typical 2007 CDP.

From 95% old vine Grenache and a blend of other Rhone varities, scents of licorice, ripe dark cherries, jam, smoke, pepper and spice get the wine going. On the palate, the wine is rich, full bodied, supple and round. Like many 2007 Southern Rhone wines, it's already offering a lot of pleasure.

This is the second of six bottles purchased three years ago, I was not impressed by the first one I tried about 15 months ago, so I thought it was time to check it out again. Admittedly, I'm not a big CdP fan, but I enjoy trying a wide variety of wines to develop my palate and wine knowledge. Dark purple, good medium body, still a bit of excess sulfur dioxide bubbles that dissipate after a few minutes in the glass. The nose shows a good deal of minerality, anise, smoke, and dark raspberry. The palate exhibits Port and Anisette like flavors; other than sweet black licorice, it's hard to discern much in the way of fruit, maybe some faint dark raspberry flavor. Tannins are well balanced. Medium plus finish that lingers for a while. This is a uniquely different wine that I'm certain many will enjoy. I will make another run at this in another year or so.

Showing some signs of evolution in the glass. Loads of fruit, anise and some nuts on the nose. Seedy black raspberries. Was really nice straight out of the bottle, after an hour in the decanter the tannins come alive and the 16% alcohol begins to show itself. A couple of years will turn this into a 91+ wine.

Alcohol :: 15% This is certainly too young to drink. The black inkish color boost the tell-tale 2007 aromas profile with its high toned floral, sweet cherry, blackcurrant liquor, roasted herb and tons of glycerin and alcohol. Powerful, intense palate with lots of dark fruits, licorice and roasted herb supported by lively acidity and tannic structure that leads to somewhat disjointed, long spicy finishing with lots of alcohol heat. A monster that with huge fruits concentration, structure and alcohol but kinda simple profile. Give it few years in the bottle that might do some good to it. Buy - No.

Haven't had one of these since last summer when they came out, straight from the candy store. One year has done a lot of good. The primary sweetness has faded, the alcohol is less notable. But, the fruit is still there, raspberry, fig, maybe even a hint of strawberry. It intertwines with licorice, a meatish touch, garrigue and nice mineral. Acidity is splendid. I really liked this, both with food (boeuf from the barbecue), with some manchego and on it's own while Spain was going to work against Paraguay.

Lifted aromatics, dare I say quite Burgundian with all its enticing floral aromatics and just a touch of barnyard. It is ripe and round in the mouth with a big dollop of strawberry confiture and loads of Provencal herbs. There’s a gentle kiss of minerally acidity to the finish keeping everything fresh.

Smells like Port, rich and heady. This wine is dark, brimming with molasses, fig, potpourri, and licorice. Medium body and massive concentration, but also a great streak of acidity that keeps it from being too jammy. Very drinkable already.

Clear, but subtle, aroma of licorice. The wine itself is round, integrated, great attack and a nice finish and good depth. It has very nicely balanced structure and well integrated alchohol. It's frighteningly easy to drink, utterly delicious even this young and I can't wait to see what happens whit a bit of age for the bottles.

Fruity nose full of sweet cherry-in-liquor, and wetsuit rubber. The taste is young and fiery, with an abundance of well-structured acid. Accessible already now, but will improve with aging.

Very nice juice. Chewy, complex, concentrated and brimming with fruit but balanced by nice acidity. This did not disappoint.

Smells like Port, rich and heady. This wine is dark, brimming with molasses, fig, potpourri, and licorice. Medium body and massive concentration, but also a great streak of acidity that keeps it from being too jammy. Very drinkable already.

Hard to drink on it´s own (too young) but it was fantastic with food (oxtail).

A very bright, fruity, well balanced wine. Especially for a Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Hot from the high alcohol but well integrated. I have great expectation for the future!
