very nice with purple to darkish fruit and good acidity for balance... not a ton of complexity but the structure / fruit balance made this a very nice drink

Saturday late night drinks at Maison Dakota. Tasted blind. Few hours of air in bottle and then into small decanter. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of iron minerality, meat, red cherries. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), structured medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tangy sour red cherries, dark red cherries, leathery meat, iron minerality, dense earth. Long finish. Very good quality. On hindsight, quite textbook Pommard characteristics, save for polish in place of rusticity. Could still go for a few more years, though just some air in decanter will do the trick for enjoying it now already.

this was very good. for me WoTN with the Georges Lignier. opened 3 hours prior to drinking, it was still a bit tight when first poured. a quick decant into a narrow decanter did the trick. Red cherries, meat, iron and a strong mineral core. Acid was lovely, and well integrated. this is burg (on a budget)! 93 pushing 94 points.

Kirsebær, blå plommer, kritt, klor, jord, tørr skogbunn, lys kyllingkraft. Frisk, saftig og leskende i munnen. Fortsatt ganske fersk frukt, begynnende moden struktur, tørrer lett. Veldig konsentrert, frisk, moden frukt. Sweetspot mellom fersk og utviklet. Kjempegodt! 91p.

Decanted for approximately two hours. Part of Jadot 02 tasting. Much better than the last bottle two month ago. Light cherry, earthy notes with even some barnyard. Most mature of all the wines that evening and drinking and drinking beautifully. Decent finish.

Dark, and somewhat spicy, pinot noir aromas. Juicy, intense and powerful in the mouth. Concentrated, tannic and a bit angular. Good cellaring potential. The old school Jadot.

Beautiful nose. Palate is still a bit shy and unresolved, but some pretty brambly fruits are starting to peek out. Savory hints of beetroot. Not much of the 02 sweetness, but this is going to be pretty elegant in the next few years. I love Jadot's Rugiens as one of the values of the portfolio and this is no different. That said, this is nowhere near as good as the spectacular 05.

This bottle was volatile on nose and palate. Smoothed out some with 2 hour decant. Deep maroon in glass with lightening at rim. Half left for future with Coravin. Update 10/30/15. Still volatile when first poured. Much better after 12 hour decant with tart cherry and smooth tannins.

Expressive nose of cherries and berries, with nutmeg, roses and earth. Palate has black cherries licorice and star anise. Excellent balance, muscle and floral. Long finish. Great tension- what I love about Burgundy.

Deep burgundy red. Very well balanced. Medium bodied. Dark red fruits, orange, smooth tannins after 30 minutes. Drinking very well now and for next 3 years.

William & Gina's Wedding (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): From a magnum, this was excellent - the best of three solid Jadot reds on the night (including a 1996 Clos St Denis and a 2007 Clos St Jacques). I thought it was quite a revelation after a series of tight, stubbornly one-dimensional 2002 red Burgs in recent months; open for business and completely on song, it was a delightful reminder of just why the vintage was so highly rated in its early days. Starting out, it had a typically masculine Pommard nose of earthy sous bois and savoury meat, along with black fruit and ferrous iron accents. Nice stuff, but it was actually on the palate that the wine really shone. This was really complete, with superbly fresh 2002 balance wed to muscular Rugiens strength, and a lovely sappy depth to its black cherry and blueberry flavours - all harmoniously integrated into an open, generous, even graceful whole. More masculine inflections of meat and earth on the midpalate, and then a long pull mineral and spice drifting through blue fruited notes on the finish added a nice touch of nascent complexity. Really lovely stuff. This is quite ready now, with the tannins having softened into a nice silkiness, but given the balance and depth on it, this should still age very nicely over the next decade or so.

Notes consistent with last bottle. Lots of bright red cherry fruit on the nose, palate is vibrant with cherry and spice. Good Pommard power, almost Volnay in silkiness. Love this bottle!

Wow! ... Whole different story from my last Pommard. Dark Purple in color, first whiff after PnP was meat, bacon, and soy ... but over time it faded to nice mix of red fruit and earth. Had it been a blind tasting, my guess would have been a Pommard at PnP, but a Volnay after an hour or so. Second day even nicer where aromas were a mixture of red berries, leather, cedar with a touch of sour cherries. So fragrant. The same on the palate, with silky and juicy on the attack. Very light tannins. Rounded, long lasting finish. This is very approachable, and is very pleasant to drink now, with a good core of red fruit, good acidity and a sweet finish. I will need to redefine my perception of Pommard wines after this one!

Greatly preferred this wine next to an Auxey Durresses 1er Cru, 2004. Dark rubycolour and full body. Strong fruit, balanced well with moderate earthiness and acidity. Long finish.

Awesome wine that is drinking really well. Right now but will likely still cellar for years. Wonderful balance between fruit and earth with lots of spice and great acidity. Detect mushrooms, cedar, and some kitchen spice. Finish lingers for a long time. Had it next to a fine oregon pinot (cameron) and noticed alittle more earth and acidity that made this wine stand out as a tad more special. will have to try and find more.

Classic light pinot color, wine has aged well and is still young, would wait another 5 years. Nose was closed with berries dominating. Sour cherry taste with a hint of earth, nice balance, long finish.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): After tasting this wine's 2003 and 2006 counterparts, I was relieved by the quality of the 2002. Bright red fruit on nose and palate with lots of energy and spice. Some really good Pommard power and density on the finish.

Still very, very young. The tannins are very present and it's a bit closed. Intense mouthfeel and crazy complex nose. I'm waiting another 5 years before I pop the next one. Great upside potential.

Showed some spritz at first, but it settled down almost immediately. It seemed more feminine and "pretty" than the 05 Potel Rugiens- with florals and pine needle notes leading into sappy pomegranate and high-toned fruit. There's some citrus fruit mixed in and finishes on a light cocoa/chocolate note. Very polished and round - tannins arent intrusive - the Pommard Gods were smiling.

nose: very interesting nose. At first it gives off a lot of tart cherry and earth, and then leans into a bit of sweat sock and even a hint of smoked meat on the nose. real nice and subtle
taste: very interesting. it opens immeaditely on the mouth with a lot of sharp dark fruit and works its way into some earth, salt, and smoked meat on the back end.
overall: very interesting stuff. nice gamey and finesse wine that is ever evolving in the glass as I drink. brings along a nice smokey finish that I wish would last a bit longer. This isn't as tannic as the other notes indicated, so it's probably integrating well right now. I'll certainly try to pick up two or three more bottles and check them out over the next ten to thirteen years to see how this evolves

Deep brick/crimson color, and a nose of black fruits and soil. This is at an awkward stage, though, as the palate has a rough quality, with almost spritzy acids and grainy tannins. Very good structure, and showed better on the second day. Hands off for at least a few years.

@ Premier Cru. A bit rough and unpolished, this needs a fair amount of time to settle down. It shows promise but the tannins and acidity mask the components enough to make it hard to assess now.

February Portland,OR Tasting Group - 2002 Burgundy + more: This was the ringer of the flight of Nuits. Much deeper in color, very dark fruits, huge structure, a bit tannic, could use a decade. My taste of this had a metallic nose that I didn't find on 2 other's I smelled, so I have to believe it was the glass. Group: 2,1,1,4,1,1,6,1,2,2: Group #1. What does this say about the Beaune vs. Nuits in 2002? Perhaps nothing.
