Uh, too bad, this was just a shadow of the 2007 Charmes-Chambertin consumed in November. Obviously an outstanding wine in the scale that is "Redwine" but far from the quality expected from a top Grand Cru vineyard and a more than capable producer:( Yes, I know the vintage is not considered the greatest, but the mentioned 2007 Charmes was a goosebump-inducing beauty just two months ago. This had some elegant Cherry fruit to it and a rustic whiff to it. Only medium bodied and the finish marked by a slightly high acidity. Closer to 91 than to 93.

Some pretty aromatics - all low-yield, brambly dark fruit and spice notes. Less giving on the palate. Showing more wood and drying, aggressive tannins. Iron. More masculine styling. Hard to see the structural elements smoothing out before the aromatic dry out. Maybe not reaching Bèze heights, but enjoyable enough.

I don't share Tanzer or WS's enthusiasm for this. It's good Gevrey-Chambertin, but it doesn't have the breed or complexity for Beze. Certainly enjoyable; lots of red fruit, dry leaves, baking spice, and meat. It didn't feel like this was holding a lot back.

Memorial Day Mondo Event - Burghounds & Bordelais: Another great Burgundy in the line up... Drinking beautifully now straight from the bottle. PnP. Wild strawberry, red raspberry, underbrush, and mushroom jumps from the glass.

Burg & Bordeaux $100+ (Duluth, GA): Maroon ruby, duller color; sweet oak, brown baking spice, modern, good core of serious terroir, earthy, complex, hard to decipher but it is all there; palate is fresh, grainy tannin with silky oak treatment, serious depth and richness, very youthful; was on Le Moine due to oak but the richness is all Perrot-Minot, should age very slowly based on this bottle, very surprised this was '07, possible room for improvement.

Didn't have time to decant but this wine could've used it. Beautiful clarity in the glass with dried cherry and plum fruit along with a earthy core. Finish was a little short which kept the score down. Recommended.

From memory. Tight and somewhat unyielding initially. Later in the day, showing more complexity and intensity on the nose. Dominated by violets and red fruit, with some black fruit, herbal notes and minerality. Intense, concentrated (but not overly so) on the palate with tight fine tannin structure and bright acid. Long finish. Needs time or a long decant.

Martine's Wines with Martine Saunier (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Impressive wine that needs time. Dark cherry and berry with good coffee and herbs aromas. Fruit a little shut down but also same dark fruit, with lots of tannins and acidity. Hold to 2015 or even better, 2020. Finish shows really good underlying material here.

An Evening with Martine Saunier (Chicago, IL): Some minty, earthy notes. Fine tannins. Heady, but not as giving as the Chapelle Chambertin. Deep palate. Very nice - great elements, just needs time.

Martine's Wines Portfolio tasting (MK, Chicago IL): nose: extremely deep, pure, and layered nose filled with black cherries, raspberries, loads of dark red fruits, and black spices. Heady and dark that just wraps you in and wants to take hold
taste: great purity and depth with very well layered tones of black cherries, raspberries, dark cherries, and loads of black spices. great medium/light feel with high acidity with amazing length
overall: a wine that leaves your head shaking. Kaliediscopic on the nose and expressive on the palate, this is a wine that needs time to come together and be a truly profound wine

Perrot Minot Chambertin & Clos de Beze dinner: (A) Some spices to the nose along with ripe berries and earth. Clean with a darker tone than the Chambertin.

Weak nose for clos de Beze. Lack of the floral note.

Domaine Perrot-Minot Tasting/Dinner with Some Other Great Burgundy from DNS (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open 3 hours before serving. In 03/06/07 flight. Nicely spiced start with both black and red cherry start-to-finish. Very good length, very good balance. Seemingly just entering its peak drinking window.

A big wine that is full of delicate complexity. However, still too many tanins in evidence to be comfortably drunk yet!
