Nebbiolo 1999-2009 at Gemma. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with primary aromas of dark red cherries, black cherries, tobacco. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), very structured high tannins, full body. Medium+ almost pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of spicy toast oak, dark red cherries, black cherries, dark plums, sweet tar earth, tobacco. Long finish. Very very good quality. Easy to guess this. Modern styled. Great stuffings, but clearly still not fully ready yet. Maybe I should keep my remaining bottle another 8-10 years.

Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2006 Magnum. 93p+

Tight and alcoholic initially, but came into focus after a 2hr decant. Garnet color with herbs and red fruit on the nose. Lots of ripe cherries and red fruit, smoothly integrated tannins, and some leather and licorice. This is really delicious and drinking wonderfully; I hope to buy more.

Really doesn’t get much better. Still thick and rich but mature. More voluptuous than typical Barolo. Black tea, leather, eucalyptus, dried cherries. Finish is balanced and lengthy. A wine of real pedigree. Truly a treat but make sure you decant 3-4 hours.
Paolo visits Princeton for dinner...good reason to open this one. Served with some bucatini and amatriciana sauce (with guanciale he brought), and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. This followed a 1995 Pahlmeyer Cab. Decanted for about 2 hours prior to drinking, then drank over an hour.
Medium ruby color. Nose showing raspberry, mocha, herbs and underbrush. Beautiful palate of dark cherry, plums, licorice....a hint of a "tar and roses" profile...Mid palate sweetens, great energy and persistence. Elegant texture, tannins still present but softening. Medium/full body, long finish.
The decant was a must with this bottle. I find most Barolo to be hard as nails in its first 10 years, evolving beautifully into a long drinking arc after that. This wine is in a good zone now with many years ahead if wanting to cellar. The decant is a must, this was aromatic but a bit closed and austere when first opened. After 2 hours it had opened, even better at 3...Star of the show on this evening

Gorgeous in the mid-palette and the finish - which was seemingly endless - but it never shook its oxidized nose. Even after four hours in the decanter. Might have been a flawed bottle. Then again, it’s like Scorsese movies — a flawed Sandrone is like a lot of people’s best effort.

Italian dinner. 1.5h decant. Expressive nose of ripe dark fruit, lots of sous-bois, herbs, bakery spices and oak. Lovely nose, I may not have guessed Barolo blind from this nose, may landed in Barossa. The palate is then back in Nebbiolo land, full bodied with lots of good quality tannin and acidity. A well made modern Barolo. 94+

Oh the power and the glory! Leather, earth and tar blended with plum, cherry and mocha all spring from the glass. The flavour profile matches the nose with Voluptuous fruit not quite but almost gaining the upper hand over the strong tannins lying beneath it. The French oak adds a more refined profile than you would expect for a relatively young barolo but make no mistake - this will improve and improve the more time you leave it in a cold dark cellar and has enough acidity, fruit and structure for a very long life. It’s a powerful wine that gains density and weight over the course of 5 hours in the decanter and glass and enchants with its sweetness and complexity. 97 points Find some if you can!

I would rate it 91 points in the first day of consumption. Even I decanted it for 5 hours, it was still shy and austerely, with very firm structure and shown not much enjoyment on the aroma and palate. I left half bottle vacuumed and drank in the second day. I just opened and pour in the bottle and this time I would rate it 94 points, for a more enjoyable moment it shared with me. A deep ruby clean color, floral and fruity and earthy aroma, and very pleasant palate with medium body. But it was still a very young wine and recommended to consume at least five years later.

{tasted blind} Dark ruby color (are we in the Langhe or Montalcino?), effusive nose of red/purple florals, herbs and soil. The palate is thick-ish, tight, tannic. First thing that comes to mind is this should have been double-decanted the day before, perhaps two days before - or just left in the cellar for 5-7 years. Begs for food...I acquiesced. recommended

Ser verkligen fram emot besöket hos Sandrone i maj.

Drank at home over 2 hours. I probably should have waited longer to try this. Very forward and dense nose of dark fruit, vanilla, roses and truffle. Great silky tannins. Lots of red, blue and black fruit on the palate. Great purity. What took away from this wine was the noticeable alcohol on both the nose and the palate. Heat on the nose and burned a bit on the finish. I should probably try this again at some point.

Pop and pour. Still quite open but got quite sturdy within a couple of hours, probably turning into a shut-down phase sooner or later. Nose of iron, roses, and cardboard(!). Full and ripe, but in a cooler style. Wonderful classic Sandrone balance. Silky tannins, fresh acid and very complex on the palate with dark and red berries, sour cherry, roses, tar and new but impeccably balanced oak. Great!

Wednesday Night Blind - February 2012 (Don Tommaso's, Yorktown Heights, NY): We all vinturied this wine into our glasses, richly textured and seriously delicious, this had a great core of red and black fruits including a very distinctive pomegranate streak, there was also a decent amount of powdered cocoa on the long finish. Terrific wine.

Receiving the winter Newsletter from Sandrone, I gambled on opening the 06 Cannubi Boschis. I am glad to report that I hit the jackpot.
The color is not unlike the barrel sample of the 05 Mugnier Musigny, clear bluish red. This is all about finesse, once again the nose and the palate reminds me of the 05 Mugnier Musigny.
Crushed blueberries, truffle, a hint of anise, roasted beet, caramel, steamy sappy goodness but none really sticks out as they are in perfect harmony. This is one of those great rare young wines that I can feel and smell the immeasurable depth.
The palate displays excellent concentration, sweet ripe fruit, animal, and tar with noticeable but silky tannins. The finish is incredibly long, the sappy Burgundian note resonates.
I am speechless as I didn’t expect the incredible finesse. The 06 Cannubi is flirting with perfection.

Time to open this masterpiece that Sandrone got from Cannubi Boschis
Ruby and quite intense color for being a Barolo.
Immediately after the opening it's quite mute and unbalanced due to the fruit and wood dominating. More restrained than other Sandrone Cannubi Boschis
After a couple of hours the wine gets going as it should. Great elegance, with a primary dominated nose.
Very long persistence.
In the mouth it's agile, with a beautiful acidity promising a long life.

Sandrone Barolo Tasting (McCarthy & Schiering): nose a bit shut down. tightly wound and densely packed. very masculine. cigarbox, sandalwood, black licorice, dried roses and tar. immense structure. built for long haul.

A great wine with tons of personality on the nose. pallate has great complexity. Big and very smooth with very long finish.
