Really nice right now but coming over the top of its peak and entering it's decline. Savory, well-balanced, but almost all secondary and tertiary at this point. Really happy to open it at this stage in its development but I doubt it'll improve to my palate.

Rather nose and taste were much more open than my last bottle in July 2022, with nice fruit and mature notes. Rather full and round, but despite the amount of deposit still with some unresolved tannins. Showing the quality of Medoc 2009. Maybe still a bit better at the third day, less good at the fifth. Clearly the best bottle so far. To keep my last one for one year more. First three days 88-89.

Red fruit and eucalyptus in the nose. In the taste red and some black (?, JL) fruit. A bit hollow at first. At the second day more mature and a bit better. There still seems some upward potential. Once more I conclude that Medoc 2009 needs a lot of time. First day (87-)88, second 88(-89)

Kept under condition 1 for a short time, mostly under condition 2 (see my profile) since beginning 2014. Color: very dark purple, with a slightly orange rim. Taste: stil quite some good mixed red and black berry-fruit and nice, sweet and round mature notes. When drunk on its own despite the already existing sediment still some unresilved tannins. But with food a nice wine from this good year. When kept the way I did it to drink within one, one and a half year. 88(-89).

This is a lovely bottle, not trying too hard, just a well made medoc, decent amount of redcurrant with a bit of black fruit on the background, still some structure left, don't think this will improve but it's not about to fall away.

Kept under condition 2 since 2015 (see my profile). Color: dark purple. Nice mature notes in nose and taste on the fifth day, together with fruit and an OK acidity. Rather concentrated. At the first day still a bit of tannins. With only 13,5% alcohol a bit/rather burning. This wine can be drunk now, but I guess that further aging (one year) might be beneficial. So far it does not really convince me. (87-)88.

Color: dark purple wit ruby rims. Taste at the fifth day: some brett, red fruit, liquorice and mature notes, all well balanced. Very nice. Clearly better than at the first day, when still there were some drying tannins. This is going to be a very nice wine with half a year, one year of keeping. For now (88-)89.

No formal notes ... it was the 3rd bottle of the night for two:-) All I can remember is, that I was impressed by the quality. It became better and better with air, so there’s no rush to drink it up. Medium+ body, more on the dark than red berry side. Grippy tannins which have been a little bit drying. All in all one of the better Medoc‘s I’ve had so far (I prefer the Haut Medoc). Glad to have 4 left, which I will drink over the next 4 years one by one.

Fresh, lightly floral nose of red and dark fruits with a hint of vanilla. Still very primary - no obvious sign of development. Light and smooth in the mouth; again, no sign of development. A tad dumb on the attack, but good mid-palate and a decent finish with very little grip. Pretty good length. Slightly surprised at how good this is, given the price. Shame I only bought two bottles. Probably at or near its peak, but showing no sign of fading just yet.

Opened about half an hour before drinking. Color: very dark purple with a ruby hue. Nose: soft bread, later some well integrated vanilla. Taste: at the first day dominated by alcohol and quite a lot of drying tannins. At the third day both nose and taste were more open with some sweet, nicely ripe fruit, bread and vanilla. The taste showed some nice complexity, and it was more integrated. A light note in the finish with liquorice. The mouthfeel was still a bit drying. As it seems now, this wine will probably develop further in a friendly, rather interesting Medoc. According to the chateau last summer it can be drunk until (end?) 2024. 88+.

A bordeaux Jeroboam (5 litres) - my contribution to the Christmas dinner at the office. The cool terroirs of the northern Médoc did well in 2009, and this wine is an excellent example. Lovely ripe black fruit, clean and polished, complete and fresh, moderate tannins, good presence and length. At peak, lots of life left in this grand format.

Nose: refined underbrush as well as brett, a bit of flower, some sweet and some mature notes; rather chic. In the taste quite lively red fruit (red cherry). Good acidity. The tannins were fine, but not fully resolved. At the third day already some nice mature notes. Alltogether a quite refined wine that holds more promise the further it develops. It will surely benefit from some more years of cellaring. I will try to keep my hands off it for at least two years. Potentially 89-90+.

Nose: pure red and some dark fruit with fresh bread and a modest, but nice note of underbrush. Altogether really pure. Taste: lively red and some dark fruit with a herbal note, quite round and with a nice acidity. The pureness of the nose goes on in the freshness of the taste. This wine is getting more attractive with keeping. Approachable with food, on its own there still were some astringent but fine tannins. There’s upward potential in my opinion. For now 88.

Kept under condition 2 since june 2014 (see my profile). Color: dark purple with a bit of ruby. Nose: cedar, plum and blueberry. Taste: blueberry, plum, cherry and green pepper. The acidity was OK. A wine with a good quality of fruit and some of the warm richness of 2009. No harsh or astringent tannins, but I guess that they are not yet all fully resolved. For a Medoc quite smooth. At the second day the 13,5% alcohol appeared to dominant for me. Maybe there is some upward potential with keeping. At the first day really attractive; to drink within three or four years? 88 at the first day, 87(-88) at the second.

Double decant and served Dark red with violet hue at rim nose seemed reticent ... something there but too vague to name Palate has nice fruit and medium finish but with more air became a bit muddied.
I tjink these could improve with time but it was very satisfying with food I left half for next day.....will reassess

Another year, another bottle to measure readiness of the 2009s. Cassis and plum (I hadn't got the plum before) on both nose and palate. Tannins still there but fading. A bit drier on the finish than I recall. Great with my steak.

Deep core; black fruits, mulberries, has a presence to its nose; reined in fruit, plenty of power - which is just kept in check; a weighty (nigh on hefty) finish. A real claret, reflecting the vintage. Now & next decade or so.

My Grade:EX-. This has really blossomed over the last 2 years and is now offering very good value. Brings licorice and black fruit and forest floor on the nose, medium bodied, smooth opening with cassis, blackberry and cedar, small, grippy tannins, long dry finish. Made an excellent pairing with a roast loin of beef. Drink now and for the next 5 years.

Opened 1hr before. Nose of cedar, black fruit, a whiff of tar. Taste full, tannins well integrated, slightly vanilla-ish, balanced .Very satisfying The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), forest floor, cedar and tobacco. It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), forest floor and nutmeg. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Nose of cassis cream, clover and a bit of honey, leathery, hint of torrefaction. Mouthfeel is round, still a little dry, very pleasant, blackberry, a little acid, getting dry dryer as it linger. Very pleasant now, will keep for 3-5 years for sure!

Decanted for 30 minutes ahead. Savory palate of black currant, with licorice and graphite hints. A good contrast in the difference of classic Bordeaux against new world (the much pricier Sena). Paired well with the leg of lamb marinated in mustard and spices.

First one of a case of 6 bought en primeur. I was pleased with the wine. Medium intensity, medium+ acidity, impressionist of licorice, some spice (petit verdot in the blend). Good balance. Still quite compact and begining to soften a bit. Hold the rest for at least 3-5 more years. Bought for 13.50€ which is definitely good value.

WSET Level 4 Course - WSET School; 9/6/2014-5/23/2015 (WSET School, Bermondsey): Appearance: The wine is Clear with a Medium Ruby colour. Nose: The nose is Clean and Youthful , showing Medium(+) intensity primary aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, secondary aromas of cedar, toast. Palate: The wine is Dry in the mouth with a Medium(+) level of acidity. It has High Firm tannins and a Medium(+) Level of alcohol (13.5%). It has Medium(+) body and Medium(+) intensity primary flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry , secondary flavours of cedar, toast . The finish is Medium(+) Overall: The wine is well balanced, with ripe black fruits, firm tannins and refreshing acidity. However, the oak and flavours are unintegrated at this stage of the wine’s development. The wine has some complexity due to the presence of primary and secondary characteristics. It is has good concentration leading to a good length finish. Conclusion: It is a Very Good quality wine. Can Drink Now but has Potential for Ageing. The concentrated fruit, high tannins and reasonably high acidity indicate potential for ageing. These are unintegrated now, hence require some further evolution which will also allow the tannins to soften; High-Priced (£ 16.99 )
Had a lot of vintages of this chateau over the last 20 Years, this one is the first bottle in NEw world style, very roasty, earthy, concentrated fruit , vanilla, very concentrated, still grainy tannin, not mine (at the moment?), *(*)- ?, 84- 87

Grade G+. Too early to really judge it fairly, but after a couple of hours in the decanter showed decent nose: red and black fruit, some charcoal. On the palate it is still pretty closed-in, but shows a refined restraint: not much fruit, just some raspberry and blackcurrant, a little lead-pencil and a hint of balsamic. Long finish, but mainly due to the heat. Quite tannic, but the tannins are smooth and not over-powering. The heat should settle down and it should become more integrated over time: come back in five years. It will never be a great value but a pretty reasonable one for 20 bones.

First taste of the 2009s in Bdx. Deep purple ruby color. Nose seems still fairly closed, after two hours open and poured though venturi; but blackberry and spice. Palate is more expressive (already) with black fruit, good balance, fresh, but with distinct tannins. Paired well with steak w/sauteed mushrooms. Should get better!

Tasted blind and the initial impression of dried and cooked black fruit led me to think Syrah. Deep cherry red in color. Blackberry, cassis, cooked black fruit, alcohol, vanilla, black pepper, leather and cigarbox on the nose. Blackberries, dried black fruit, leather, alcohol and tannins on the palate. Grippy finish of blackberries. Definitely needs to sit for at least a few years before it becomes a sipping wine.

Quite soft and round. Decent and enjoyable without being too great. Much better than chilean cabernet or other new world wines at the same price. Some austerity and savouriness although I imagine the vintage has softened out the edges on this wine quite a bit. Good value by the carafe on a local restaurant list.

Red/black, tending to red - dark fruits, graphite - the nose is somewhat closed. The palate is only medium bodied, but classic and correct - not overdone in the least - fairly heavy tannins, needs a few years in the cellar, but I think it will emerge well - not as a blockbuster, but as a restrained, yet deft, solid performer.

Purple-tinged garnet color of great depth. Nose was tight, with a hint of black licorice. Somewhat bitter on the palate; the C.S. and P.V. seem to overshadow the Merlot in the cepagé; moderate oak; decent acidiy; medium-short finish; adequate tannins; 13.5% alc. not noticeable; could use a couple years to settle down a bit, but I don’t see this wine ever turning into something better than “good.” I had a pour both from a bottle than had been open for an hour+, as well as from a bottle that was opened the previous day: the pour from the bottle that had been open for a day was a bit better than the pour from the bottle that was opened about an hour or so earlier, but not enough to change my opinion of the wine. Gut impression score: 84 - 86

Double decant and served
Dark red with violet hue at rim
nose seemed reticent ... something there but too vague to name
Palate has nice fruit and medium finish but with more air became a bit muddied.
I tjink these could improve with time but it was very satisfying with food
I left half for next day.....will reassess

Another year, another bottle to measure readiness of the 2009s. Cassis and plum (I hadn't got the plum before) on both nose and palate. Tannins still there but fading. A bit drier on the finish than I recall. Great with my steak.

Deep core; black fruits, mulberries, has a presence to its nose; reined in fruit, plenty of power - which is just kept in check; a weighty (nigh on hefty) finish. A real claret, reflecting the vintage. Now & next decade or so.

Settled into a nice vibe. Lovely classic nose of bracken, blackcurrant and demerara, albeit somewhat straightforward. Nicely balanced palate but lacking in some punch. Good value, easy drinking Bordeaux.

Taste full, tannins well integrated, slightly vanilla-ish, balanced .Very satisfying
The wine looks inky colored.

Cupissimo rubino/porpora. Buona PAI

The finish is Medium(+)
Overall: The wine is well balanced, with ripe black fruits, firm tannins and refreshing acidity.
