Mursteinsrød. Mørk sort kjerne. Orange i kanten. Kraftig lukt av solbær. Litt søtlig lukt og et hint av noe litt kunstig (neglelakkfjerner). Meget kraftig smak. Intens. Mørke bær. Saftig og bløt. Lang intens ettersmak. Godt integrerte tanniner.

Opened and poured, full nose and mouth, everything you'd expect from an Amarone. Long, silky finish, well balanced and fully integrated; nothing leaps out at you that isn't expected. Yes, there is definitely a hotness to the wine, but nothing you wouldn't expect. Drinking well now and should go for a few more years easily.

Another evidence of Veneto wines in general, and especially Amarone not being my cup. Hot & oak infused & densely packed nose, with dark and brambly fruits, alcohol, oak spices, sweet dried figs and dates. Palate is hot and alcoholic, disjointed, over oaked, full off cooked and over extracted sweet dark jammy fruit. Plums, blackberry bramble, vanilla, raisins, sweet figs & dates, more vanilla hints, and more alcohol. Overdone, and lacking all complexity & transparency. More like a marmalade mixed in alcohol. This is the way Amarone tastes, and shall taste, but not anything I appreciate. Points as always given for my own reference, and all you Amarone lovers out there will most likely disagree with me on this, and rate this wine much higher. But for me, this is just not good.

Dark coloured. Dark chocolate, ripe cherries, touch of cinnamon, vanilla and herbs. Full bodied with cherries, chocolate, lingers on for a while. Alcohol is little disturbing but reasonably balanced by good acidity.

In the bouquet smoky, tobacco, all colors of forest fruits and a touch of menthol. On the palate a lot of chocolate, sweet ripe red as well as black forest fruits, pepper and other spices, soft and round tannin and good freshness. Very concentrated and a bit alcoholic, which is not surprising with its 16.5%. Really good wine, but maybe a bit overdone. It lacks a bit in elegance imho.

Non-blind (tasting at Enoteca Sogo Yokohama). Almost black wine. Nose that shows off an amazingly unattractive ashtray. *bluargh* Hinting at an undrinkable wine. The palate is shockingly good. I moved from expecting yet another boring jammy Amarone to smelling an awful ashtray to becoming an Amarone believer. This is probably the best Amarone in my life so far. It litters your mouth with red currants all the way and some darker things that I couldn't dissect until the miniature glass was empty. I enjoyed everything about this wine - except the ashtray and the price tag.

Valpolicella with Luca Speri (121 BC, Sydney): Nose: Very slightly jammy cherry over chocolate and sweet spice Mouth: Chocolate over cherry. Medium acid and medium plus tannin. Again hints of residual sugar on the long jammy finish. Having said that I rather like it.

Colour on the lighter side for Amarone, refined, fresh aromatic nose, ripe cherry and graphite, some subtle vanilla. Nice concentration, classis high acidity, mineral, cigar and sour cherry flavours. Slightly austere finish, but with great length. Very approachable now in the classic style, but will age well. Excellent.

Big wine, compared to previous bottles the 'überintensity' has mellowed down. More integrated now, good tertiary flavours and aromas.

Heavy smell filled with smoky, fleshy tones, which is complimented with nice acidity and good tannins when tasted. Enjoy with your heavy main dish.
