  • Developed wonderful over the past 2 years. Its now in a perfect drinking window, powerful not just in the nose, but also when drinking. In the nose still very fruity, but one smells also tertiary notes. Long finish - lots of pleasure.

  • Good value for money but too watery for it to be a really good wine. Will not get better from here.
Nose: raising expectations that can not be fulfilled once on the palate
black fruit both fresh and ripe, graphite and at one stage musc
Palate: quite thin, in addiction to the fruit green pepper, medium finish, acidity a little too present

  • Purchased a case of 12 halves at release,
pnp this one tonight to pair some meat on the grill at my girls home at the baltic Sea,
Great nose now, a whiff of mineral, dark cassis emerges, makes you feel good,
on the palate fully blossomed, just the right amount of fine ripe tannin, deep, delicate cassis, all fine woven, spicy, with depth but the perfect structure is particularly striking, long+
best bottle of this one so far, enjoy over the next few years,

  • Juicy, rich without being over ripe. Very enjoyable, not into tertiary but still fully resolved.

  • Ripe, round wine with a touch of smoke and vanilla oak. The wine is nicely integrated and beautifully ready to drink. Holding it longer is perfectly fine, as it has years to go, but why wait?

  • Second bottle from a case bought upon release. Drinkable but really not good. Compared this to a budget Cote du Rhone a year ago but this has too much acidity for Rhone. Highly rated by Parker, Suckling and co. on release but this is not a good wine, and a poor Bordeaux. No structure whatsoever, noticeable alcohol, glycerin, overripe dark fruit- sorry. 87-88

  • From a half-bottle, cork in good shape. Nice dark blood red colour with slight bricking but still looks rather young. Timid nose, aromas of creamed corn, coffee and cenovis - some ink. On the palate, the attack is somewhat fragmented with bitterness, acidity and a bit of very black fruit/black olives/coffee and ink as well as aromas found on the nose. But it doesn't really mesh and seems out of balance. None of the fruitiness and balance that this had in 2018 and the years prior. It had already started a bit of a decline in 2018. This was a bottle I had lost and just found today. Too bad, would have been better 2-3 years ago. The creamed corn aroma is a sign of Dimethyl Sulfide which is a defect, but I don't think it is specific to the bottle, but the wine in general. Quite advanced on the downward slope. No official score, but at opening about 70, with a couple of hours of air, about an 82. Interesting, but this isn't a wine that evolved naturally to tertiary aromas, but rather a wine that got a short-circuit from a problem with sulfur. Drink up! Already too late for half-bottles in my experience.

  • Very intense nose, red berries, good palate but the finish does not live up to the expectation, is quite short. Nevertheless, elegant wine, good value for the money.

  • Graphite, mushroom, fresh fruit, silky tannin. This is drinking really well right now. A gift from a friends cellar. Very nice!

  • First bottle from OWC bought en primeur given some very good reviews the wine got. While the wine has clearly some Bordeaux typicity on nose and attack with dark fruit and earthy notes, the palate is broad without much structure or concentration but noticeable alcohol. Reminding me more of an inexpensive Cote du Rhone from a warm vintage, than a left bank Bordeaux.

  • Ranked near the bottom by group at '09 vs '10 tasting, but was my 3rd place wine. This wine and its sister from '10 had a fairly strong "green" or "stem" contribution on the palate. Several found this offensive, and I would agree that the '10 may need more time to integrate this essence. However, I thought the '09 was well balanced and at a good place if you pair the wine with steak or roast. You would not sip this wine on its own.

  • My last bottle from a case of six that I purchased just after release. The wine really impressed every time I opened a bottle. Really well balenced with great complexity. I’m a big fan of this chateau, excellent value ! This 2009 still has many years of life left in it , but it’s hard to find so I will look at purchasing some of the more recent 2015-2016 vintages, I’m sure they will be just as good value as the 2009. Leather, spice, chocolate, black current , strawberry. Excellent value at £25 a bottle

  • Coravin; ruby, light nose; medium body, mineral, bright acidity balanced by red and black fruit, blueberry, nice finish; overall nicely typical Pessac

  • Nice medium-dark colour. On the nose aromas of dark fruit (black currant clearly evident), pine and coffee. On the palate, the attack is frank with a good acidity and rounded tannin. Aromas of dark fruit, cassis in particular, are found as well as a tannin-coffee aftertaste with a medium length. At this point, it is ripe (in half bottles anyway), but I am surprised by the comments of other tasters that say it lacks acidity. Perhaps a storage issue? Sure, it is not the finest wine (I tasted it in parallel to a Pagodes de Cos 2014 which was much finer), and tends to be slightly to somewhat over extracted and slightly to somewhat over oaked to my taste, but it is still quite good and at peak now. 89

Belle robe rouge assez sombre.

  • Purple core, garnet around edges. Aromas of cedar, dark berries and a faint waft of vanilla and coffee. Seems a bit restrained at the moment. Acids are medium minus …. causes wine to lack a bit of verve …. no umph. Dark berries, ripe plum, creamy, cedar and tobacco. Overall the wine is just okay. Flabby finish. Just missing that "something".
After a few hours of air, the wine opened up more, acidity improved. No longer flabby on the finish.

On passe!

  • better last time. This is still a nice wine, the taste does not fit the nose.

A bit flat, still good, just on the down slope. Should have open this bottle last year or so.

Still went nicelly with filet mignon with bordelaise sauce and crispy mushrooms.

    a boire dès maintenant.

    Santé !!

  • A full glass from a half bottle from Coravin: roasty, earthy tones with dark ripe fruit on the nose, some plums, on the palate starting with mocca, coffee, very dark chocolate and black currant, overall young with a moderate body and still lively acid, at this point for me to oaky from the barrels, ending adstringent and quite long, give this one some more years in the cellar or a very decent decant, drink from now on and over the next 5+ years, *(**?)

  • Oeil rubis dense;

  • Nice, friendly, smooth, but missing the concentration you expect in 2009.

J'aime bien.

  • From a half bottle. Nice dark rubis colour. On the nose, we are welcomed by some dark fruit, moka and also a slight metallic touch. The attack is frank and well structured, with black fruit, coffee and olives. Style wise, resembles more a St-Estèphe or wine from the northern Medoc, which I find quite surprising. Anyhow, following the fruit, the tannins retake the lead. Good mouth feel and good length. This wine can be enjoyed today with a rare red meat, but would gain from another 3-4 years or so in bottle. Good wine, must be patient with the other bottles. Not before 2018-2019 for the next one. 88 or 89 today but should reach 90 or 91. The 2010 is ready to drink now unlike this 2009.

Demie-bouteille. Belle robe rubis sombre.

  • WSET Diploma Graduation (Fix St. James, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Aromas of blackcurrant and plum, cream, vanilla, cedar then slight pencil shavings and tobacco notes. Very pleasant nose. On the palate cassis and slight plum flavours then spice and very slightly drying tannins on the medium plus length. This wasn't as austere or out of whack as I last remember it. Beginning to come together. Happy days.

  • A bit austere at the moment.
Nose is quite expressive, some cedar & & black fruit.
The palate shows some fruit with some spice & tobacco leaf. Nice grainy tannins wit a spec of acidity.
    Finish is decent.

  • beautiful nose of blackcurrant, herbs and spices, touches of cedar & cream here as well. On the palate the fruit proves slightly austere and is joined by moderately grainy tannin as well as some spice with tobacco leaf and a generous splash of acidity. Nice but a bit disjointed at the mo', for me.

Limite racoleur.

  • According to the producer, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). Aged for 16 months in barriques (50% new, 50% older). Only 13% alcohol - relatively low for such a warm vintage wine.

Deep dark cherry color with a little translucency. Somewhat rustic and toasty nose with aromas of Cuban cigar, dark fruits, toasty smoke, some leather and crunchy hints of blackcurrants ad red fruits. Ripe, supple and rather full-bodied on the palate with a good streak of bright acid freshness - something one really doesn't expect from a 2009 Bordeaux. The wine is juicy and quite fruit-forward with flavors of ripe blackcurrants, succulent plums, some leafy herbal character, a little bit of toasted oak spice and a hint of barnyard. Although quite ample, the tannins are more on the friendly and mellow side. The finish is juicy and supple with flavors of ripe dark berries, smoke, some leather, a little bit of earthy sous-bois and a hint of vanilla with a nice, balancing hint of dark chocolate bitterness.

Although quite modern in style, this wine showed surprisingly nice balance and harmony. Pretty round and supple in style, the wine is definitely not in need of long cellaring before it can be enjoyed, but it still shows some good promise aging-wise. I was positively surprised how little the oak shows even though the wine supposedly sees 50% new oak during its aging. However, I'd assume that the wood flavors can be further integrated with the fruit with more aging; while the wine is enjoyable already now, I'd recommend giving it some 5-7 years more. Nice effort.

  • Decent nose. Notes of forest floor, minerals, dark cherry with toasty oak. Sweet and smooth on entry, sour tannins noticeable on mid-palate. Medium bodied and short and sudden finish. Good acidity level. Slightly heat at the end despite "only" 13% alcohol. Decent balance and approachable now. Good nose on 3rd day, but the wine become acidic and seems to be fermenting, bizarre. Downgrade the score. 89-91 pts.

Garde: 2013-2018. 13%
    17,2/20

  • Very drinkable, smooth Bordeaux blend with minerals, black currant, ripe cherries and smoke leading to velvety, medium+ finish. Not highly complex at this age but very easily approachable instead.

  • Red fruits and not a lot of complexity. Totally accessible right now, though, and a good value. Could have more acid.

  • Licorice, smoke, stone, blackberry in the nose. This supple, medium bodied wine will drink well on release. Clos Marsalette is one of the top value plays in Pessac Leognan for high quality wine at a fair price.
