German Riesling from 1971 to 2012 (Los Gatos, California): Deep yellow, golden hue. High toned, slightly off scents but not corked. Medium weight and sweetness, high acidity. Ripe apple fruit but one dimensional with an unclean, bitter finish.

This was sitting n FMIII refrigerator for a week and held up nicely. Nice glycerin mouthfeel. Color is a deep goldenrod. Didn't get the diesel note initially, very cold, but it clearly shows after warming. I like this wine, it's sweet (brown sugar) but not sugary and there's orange fruit. Probably pair nicely with chocolates

Drank this last night, the bottle stayed behind so I have a good amount to retaste today. Lots of petrol here in the aromatic. This remains pretty fresh still, more of a stone fruit mix of peach and apricot, joined against a mandarin/lime acidity. Finishes with a maple and lemom-lime note, with decent acidity too.

Hard to believe this is 25 years old. Orange marmalade color, orange, molasses and plenty of acidity still there. Drinks better a bit warmish, the secondary nut and deep tropical notes emerge. No significant petrol notes. I like that as older Riesling can show to much petrol IMO.

Agree with mfaulkner's note. Love the petrol on the nose and still has shelf life. We started the evening with this wine paired with cambozola cheese, fig and arugula flat bread and finished the night with Crème Brulee. The ladies wanted to finish the bottle with the appetizer but it was tough making them wait.

Mostly secondary smells and tastes with some candied orange peel and citric notes. Great acidity pairs with moderate sweetness. Only knock is the mouthfeel is just ever so threadbare.

This wine showed very well last night. Great pairing with Indian food. The citrus and acid balanced the spice nicely. The wine was very well integrated. Great on its own prior to food coming but exceptional with the food. I don't have a lot of experience with aged riesling but this showed less cloying fruit and sweetness with younger Rieslings.

Very smooth, silky beginning and finish. Honey/ creme brulee like but not overly sweet; apple flavors. Drink now as this bottles cork was almost bled thru...

Deeper golden, more honeyed, less fruit and less petrol than last nights wine. Overall though, better acidity and balance and longer finish. I'd pick this one. Peach and minerality fight with the sweetness for dominance. Drank with Cajun spice rubbed pork tenderloin and onion scape (from the garden) and bell pepper risotto. Yum!

Plenty of petrol on the nose. Sweet, but not cloying peach and apricot flavors along with perfectly balanced levels of acidity. Beautifully aged riesling.

Very nice Riesling. Petrol, a little camphor, dried apricot, and minerality. Long persistent finish. This wine was speaking beautifully and I am glad to say that everyone was paying attention.

Bright light medium greenish golden color; lovely, rich, lime, spicy, mineral nose; tasty, mineral, ripe lime, tart green peach palate with good acidity; medium-plus finish

Mature yellow fruits, dried apricots, honey, only a hint of petrol. Still holding on to good acidity. Much fresher than the Nußbrunnen sampled last week. Still tangy and delicious on day 2.

Initial nose of petrol, but after a few minutes of air, there was a beautiful complex nose of apricot, pear, peach, and honey, with other assorted and not yet named scents. Across the palate came a sweetness that was neither overpowering nor understated, just a nice balance. Slight acidity at the back balancing out the sweet, with a long finish that fades into minerality. The fruit of the nose comes across on the palate. Beautiful, and will continue to develop with further aging.

Had to try at least one of these. Picked this one because I knew we'd be ordering the potted dock rilette (sp?) at Tilia. A deep golden color but what a dynamo. Jon @ Garagiste was dead on...this is young. Fantastic freshness, beautiful apple and pear flavors. Not overly sweet, despite the Auslese designation. Lots of glasses were clinked to salute this one. Very enjoyable and seved as the pivot wine in the meal before we attacked the Bdx and Rhone. In that light, was a great palate cleanser/intermezzo. This was a fantastic value at approx $40. A 20yr wine in pristine condition. Makes up for that awful Garagiste '08 OR pinot I popped last week!

Delicious!! Surprisingly bright and seemingly young for a 20+ year old riesling. Nice acidity complements sweet apricot and pear notes. Deep golden in color, and many tartrate crystals at bottom of bottle, but did not taste nearly as aged as the Hattenheimer Nußbrunnen

(AP #47 Auction Wine) Drinking very well. A powerful wine with good tension and finesse. Strong petrol balanced out after 30 minutes and revealed some mature fruit and balanced acidity. Good stuff.

Ex-Icono, offen. (88-91/100)

My bottle. Liquid dried apricots, both color and flavor. Tangy, mild ginger, clove spice, honeyed yet clean dry finish, pure nectar.
