Funny, I saw this in a local shop and I was in the market for a decent white in 375ML. Then I saw i had this 9 years ago. CT is pretty damn cool. Fully mature, rich, decent drink but consume soon I would think.

See prior notes re: bottle variation. When these are good, they are like this bottle. Age-appropriate mellowness, with rough edges rounded off but still enough acidity to keep it lively. Relatively rich mouthfeel and fruit depth. 90 points. Update: a second bottle a couple days later....even better. Perhaps more time in the glass helped this second bottle out, but it was absolutely superb. I've had some Corton Charlemagne that I've liked less. This particular bottle punched way above its class.

From .375 screw cap. Pale gold. Aromatic chablis nose. Very slight alcoholic sharpness on palate, but generally these bottles seem to be coming out of a dumb phase, putting on weight and rounding out again.. Better in 3 months, and should drink nicely to 2014.

This was out of a i/2 bottle. What a lovely little wine. Some steeliness on front palate and terroir very evident. The wine was of medium body but clean fruity finish. Some people call me lucky that wines that are knock by many for being over the hill, but my wines are always in 55 degrees and because of what it costs to maintain this is not luck. Many so called reports on cellar tracker are so unreliable. To them I say, keep your thoughts to your self.A palate is a very special thing to abuse.
From a 375. While not nearly as oxidized as the 2006 opened tonight, this a bit further along in development than I expected. The hallmark for these 375s, under screwcaps, seems to be "variation". I'm batting about.500 with these. This is a good one, relatively speaking. Open on the nose. Alluring in fact. On the palate.....too "old" for the vintage. Unlike some others, this bottle is drinkable, if not typical. I really hope the 750s perform better......

From .375 screwcap. This hit a sweet spot in 2009, but is still enjoyable. Not sure if it will improve again or not. Also, noticeable bottle variation in my experience. This one was pleasant, no premox, but some bitter peach pit in finish.

This wine continues to puzzle me. I've had exclusively the 375s, one remarkably fresh, the others showing much older than their age. This one falls into the latter category. Initially, almost undrinkable with an overt oxidized character. However, with 10 minutes in the glass, enough of that blows off, and enough fruit and acidity come forward to turn this into a quite pleasant if not typical Chablis. The fact that it blows off makes me think that maybe it's not premox, because usually for me the more time in the glass the worse a premox'd wine gets. The raw materials (acidity, marine salinity, fresh fruit) are there, but somewhat masked by a nuttiness that while faded, still makes its presence known.

Darkly rich, saline, but not quite enough bite for the taste. Nonetheless, a nice drink in an eccentric sort of way. Little nose. Decent enough length, but quite full mouth and tastes. Little overt fruit, but some good earth and some good funk make this one interesting.

From .375 with screwtop. Not sure if there's a hint of premox or if that's chablis flintiness. Otherwise still drinking well and can last to 2012, more if full bottles. Very light straw with green glimmers. Nice flinty chablis nose with no oak. Light to medium bodied, went perfect with sushi, good with tempura also.

From half bottle. Golden baked fruit, more golden than white or clear, but ripe and not dried out, sun-baked orchard fruit, with lively acidity. The golden aspect was more Chenin than Chablis. Based on this bottle, drink now. Are the .375s labeled Montmain and the .750s Montmains?

The vineyard is actually Montmain instead of Montmains, but I've noted it as the latter due to the large amount of TN's listed that way.
Nose: Shy and restrained, showing apple, pear skin, and dashes of mineral.
Taste: Fully in the drinking window now, tasting more like a high quality Maconnaise white than anything else. Nicely viscous, with poached apple and pear flavors, folding into pastry notes mid-palate. Juicy and delicious, it may disappoint Chablis hardcores looking for liquid minerality. On its own merits, a pleasing and well made White Burgundy.

Delicious. Clear, pure fruit, very direct and pure palate. There is a roundness at the bottom of the palate, and a hint of vanilla, even though this wine is all-stainless; I quite like this added complexity. A very good showing; seems to be drinking in top form today.

Quite a bit of bottle variation with these it seems. This one, another 375 screwcap, is by far the freshest bottle of this I've had. Little or no nuttiness on the midpalate. Fresh fruits nicely and nicely integrated acidity, along with some minerality I don't remember picking up before. A bottle like this one has some life left. However, it's a bit of a crapshoot looking back at previous outings.

From .375 screw top this was initially faintly oxidized, but blew off after 10 minutes of air. Full bottles should be perfect now and next 6 months. Lemon and citrus on nose. Minerals, citrus and a nutty note on palate.

Hmm. I've been through many bottles of this wine, and this was an odd showing. It opens with the usual Louis Michel wooly Chablis quality, but then, rather than white fruit, there's the taste of something nutty, lightly brown, and it's round and soft and lacking in cut. On the second night, it tastes like coffee yogurt. Perhaps it's oxidized already? An aberrant bottle, for sure.

From 375. This was my second one of these and I thought I had already left a TN, but alas I was mistaken. The first bottle was bright and vibrant with pineapple and lemon peel. This second bottle was a little less 'wow' but still very good. 92 first bottle, this one 89.

I concur with Chefee's note below. Also from a half bottle, and also the best showing of this wine thus far (3 b) for me. Much more open and expressive than the 05 Michel Grand Cru Grenouilles that I opened this week for Mothers Day. This Montmains was really good. Chablis wooliness emerges right away, along with good minerality and brisk acidity. The palate is vibrant, expressive and juicy, with crystalline yellow fruit and light lemon water. Great finish of minerals and juiciness. Terrific showing.

Green gold, Mint, apple, lime zest and powdered chalk on the nose. Fairly rich with good weight and density to the mineral, lime and sea broth flavors. Finishe is long with a tactile. saline soil impression. This seems to be a richer and more complete wine than the last bottle I had - certainly none of the dilute flavors I got last time. Really an excellent example of un-wooded Chablis. Tasted from a half bottle and drinking great now. Superb value as well for $8.50 a split on Wine Commune.

Green gold. Iodine, oyster broth, greengage and gun flint on the nose. Rich and briney green fruit and saline notes. THis bottle seems fresher than the last one I tasted. Acids are now mellowing a bit but this is far from tired. Turns a bit dilute on the finish but for the price - who cares.

Impromptu White Burgundy Tasting; 2/28/2009-3/1/2009 (Lake Elmo): Once again, similar to prior outings, though this time I'm enjoying the nuttiness more, worrying about it less. Comes across as creamy. Still not a typical Chablis, at least in my experience.

With screw cap. Solid and respectable Chablis, showing more minerality than acidity, but works well within the context of the citrus driven fruit. I would have liked a bit more umph, but you cant argue with the price of $10.99. Became richer on the back half, but avoids the ‘sherry’ nutty’ distraction that has been noted by others.

Similar to prior notes, though more noticeable apple on the palate. Still pick up a distinct sherry nuttiness on both the nose and palate that I find distracting and somewhat concerning in a wine this young. Rich, yet quite acidic, with a bit of tannic dryness on the finish. If not for the nuttiness, I'd hold onto these for awhile with confidence. With it, it's difficult for me to project where this wine goes over time, as it's elements seem out of balance at present. From a 375ml screwcap.

This is quite an exquisite Chablis, reasonably priced too. Has a depth and structure that the regular bottling doesn't have. Still holds a nice lemony, steely, mineraly base but with slightly toned down acidity and a velvety texture. Beautiful with food. Specdumulator says drink until 2018, but the softness and all around great balance of this right now makes me believe that it should be consumed within 5 years or so.

Pale yellow green. Proper saline nose with chalk, white flower, quince and lime aromas. Fresh but surprisingly fat in the mouth but with good cut and simple sea salt, pear and citrus flavors. Finish carries a nice green mineral streak. This seems a bit old for its age so I wouldn't hold it for too long but its a pleasant, proper Chablis and a fine value. Tasted from a screw cap 375.

More body than I would have expected, with a distinctly nutty character on the palate. Not as focused/crisp/etc as I would have thought. A bit tight/tannic feeling on the finish. The "nutty" could morph into a "pre-ox" taste with age. Hard to tell. I would probably tend to error on the early side with this one. Good sipper, but not one to pull out for a classic Chablis / food pairing. For me, it doesn't resemble the WS tasting notes at all.

The screcap was a surprise under the cap, but the wine wasn't - it was easygoing and mellow and a nice "single glass" drink. Moderate/minimal nose, decent mouth, moderate length. Nuts, slightly oily, ripe white fruit (pears, etc.).

Showed much better this time, probably because of the stronger food pairing (salmon in lemon butter sauce). Still the strong, stony, puckery-tart finish, with undertones of spice. Stronger in the midpalate. In general, more crisp and lively. Flavors of citrus, pear, and maybe (this time) a bit of melon. Aromas are still rather restrained, although this time got faint earthy traces (mushroom?). Not getting as much minerality as I would expect (or like). I'm hoping that this is tight in its youth and will open up and develop complexity with bottle age. Gonna try to wait a long time on my two remaining 375s.

Strong finish. Otherwise disappointing. Some pear, apple, lemon and stone. Perhaps some toast as well. Not much character. Flat and a bit thin for my taste. But my food pairing choice was bad (a creamy crab dip which called for something with much more acidity and cut). May perform better in a different setting.

nice nose. Palate is a bit boring. Not worth the price tag at all, though.

Tonight, the bottle is a bit funky, with a sort of excessive salinity/slightly oxidized thingy going on. It's a pleasant enough drink nonetheless, but a bit (a tiny bit!) disappointing.

The screcap was a surprise under the cap, but the wine wasn't - it was easygoing and mellow and a nice "single glass" drink. Moderate/minimal nose, decent mouth, moderate length. Nuts, slightly oily, ripe white fruit (pears, etc.).

Loved the screwcap. Bone dry with slate, chalk, tart green apples and lemons. Finishes clean with great acidity and really needs food.

Terrible 'peroxide' aftertaste - perhaps a bad bottle....
