Brought this and the Togni for a dinner. Should've decanted both. Nice bouquet with kerosene and white-florals. Seemed to show a bit of residual sugar on the palate, but tropical fruits abound. Nice long finish!

Final bottle from a half case purchased at the estate in 2010. Still on fine form. Strikes a lovely balance between the innate elegance of the vineyard and the richness of the vintage.

Fifth bottle from a half case purchased at the estate in 2010. Filigree and precise house style but in the context of the warmer vintage, spicy red slate, wonderful Nahe typicity, ripe fruit (lemon, orange, hint of grapefruit), and white flowers, gentle bitters, light and slightly dry finish. Completely ready, will last a few more years.

Fourth bottle from a half case purchased at the estate in 2010. Relatively full colour, mature but lively; mature and waxy nose with vestiges of fruit, hints of honey and spice, minerally depth; the elegant palate is energetic and youthfully juicy for a 2009, with firm and refreshing acidity; relatively light finish but with good length.

Terrific showing. My last bottle Wish i had more. Terrific bouquet of white flowers, peach pit, inflected with subtle petrol. Dark yellow color, almost golden, perhaps indicative of warm vintage. On palate rich, concentrated yet correct. Whoever suggested gooseberry provided a nice analogy, but not the bitterness of under-ripe gooseberry or some of the grapefruit-ey notes I sometimes detect with Tim Frohlich's work. But also white peaches and peach pit. And the petrol again finely woven through the wine so fully integrated and not separable. Very rich, concentrated fruit without any sweetness. Altother enjoyable, intriguing and captivating. Brilliant winemaking.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: X-Mas Tasting 2019: Glass: Zalto Universal Popped and poured. Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Tight, clean nose with lots of ripe fruit. On the palate high, racy acidity. Some gooseberry, chalky mineral notes, smoky. Long, lingering and juicy finish. Start reaching its peak. 92-93

Three years since my previous tasting note - this is now completely mature. Relatively full colour. Wonderful freshness, lively acidity, typically filigree style even in this warmer vintage, but aromatically the nose is quite waxy and developed, and the delicate fruit flavours (with a tropical edge) are a bit muted. Good length. Attractive but probably not a perfect bottle. Not rated.

"You only YOLO once" (Chicago, IL): I had this next to the Halenberg, which I definitely preferred. The nose here is leaner and a bit more elegant, with relatively more herbal and green elements. There's a very nice purity here, but the broadness and ripeness that I expect aren't on full display here. The palate is racy with the acidity, but the richer fruit elements are attenuated. While this seems to carry the same alcoholic heft as the Halenberg, the missing fruit means that this doesn't carry it as well. It's a leaner, more mineral edition of GG, but I also think that this just isn't as complex a wine either.

Some of the '09 GGs that I've recently tried are turning out to be very fine, this inclusive. Started with a steely, chalky, white-floral note, which then turned to tropical fruit flavours like peaches, green-apples as it warmed in the glass. This had good (mineral) intensity & freshness on the palate. Should continue to get better with more cellar time...
Translucent pale yellow, with strong floral and citrus aromas. Cleans and scrubs the mouth rather than being caressing, from the combination of higher and drying alcohol, bright acidity, and zingy lemon citrus. Avoids all the flaws of dry Riesling from Germany - no battery acid, not low in fruit, and is not thin. Overall, a richer and highly enjoyable trocken Riesling.

Last tasted in August 2014, when it displayed quite a dichotomy between rich fruit and intense minerality. Since then it has come together and it is now a rich and harmonious, mature wine, typical in its fruit-salad character for the middle of the Nahe and with the distinctive, elegant style of Werner Schönleber even in this warmer vintage. The salty minerality remains a remarkable, defining element however, even at this later stage. Drinking well now and for another five years.

Followed over a few evenings now, and I'm not enjoying this wine. Spritzy lime zesty mineral lean one-dimensional. Little spark or energy. I'd hoped it would have opened up by evening #3 but no dice. Maybe just in a dumb clumsy faze. Maybe some RS would have helped this one. If I had more, I'd hold and hope.

Nicely floral fruit nose, palate starts off as it hits the tongue with quite a bit of zippy acidity, then a strong wave of minerality, almost like drinking soda water, and finally reveals fairly reserved fruit as the acidity and minerality subside; tangy minerality lasts well beyond the fruit on the finish. A rock head wine, for sure, quite enjoyable in that sense. I'm tempted not to touch one of these again for quite a few years, to see what becomes of it.

Unsurprisingly, a richer style than the 2008, but it seems to have lost its youthful exuberance, in particular on the nose. As in 2008, there is a rather dusty, powerful minerality that pervades the wine, in this vintage balanced by earthy weight, but there is little sense of fruit, apart from a citrus undertow. It has drive and length, but it is a bit of a spotty youth right now.

The color is pale yellow. There was minimal bouquet. The wine flavor was amazing. It had the fruity essence of Riesling without the cloying sweetness present in many German wines. There was a touch of citrus. There was no obvious oak. This is a well made, lovely wine.

Yellow with a green tea aspect --- Nose minerality, stone meal, citrus vapour, some peaches, some mint --- Palate smooth, a little oily while fresh and exhilarating, citrus, green apple, some peaches, grapefruit, green tea notes --- Finishes on citrus and peaches, some nice green aspects accompanied by minerality. What an effort at 14€ at the vinery. In fabulous shape right now, can easily stand up to GGs in the Nahe region. Frühlingsplätzchen, GG or Riesling trocken, always seemed to be very shy not showing its somehow promised potential. This time it is different, a shy beauty with feminine rough edges. Fantastic.

Citrus, apricot, some honey, hint of petrol, stoniness. Medium body. Flavours are quite mouth-filling, without any exceptional depth. Lot of acidity, good grip, but could be more integrated or refined. Midpalate has enough structure to be a decent dry riesling, but I wouldn't talk about neither impressive focus, nor really long lasting, concentrated flavours. Finish slightly longer than medium. Pretty good overall, but absolutely not memorable.
