Earth and funk…like, a lot of funk. Like, flawed. Like broken in pieces, except that the two Pegau-hounds at the gathering kept telling me how amazing it was and that this whole “I’m in touch with the ways of times begone” thing is the best part of Pegau. So, I guess if the best part of Pegau is enjoying grime wine, then this is at the top of the heap. I mean, look, I’m all for funk and sanguine and Rhone terroir and all that, but when you can taste the bottom of the pig farmer’s shoe, it’s maybe time to recalibrate the ‘ol taste buds. I know there are literally thousands of Rhone Rangers who will clap back at me for not understanding nor appreciating what is a legacy of ‘this’ kind of winemaking (and to be fair, I haven’t had Pegau that were all…like this). But if this is supposed to a sound wine, then I’ll just be in the corner scratching my head and wondering what ‘style’ to file this under. “Come on. Be nice,” says the little voice on the right shoulder. Ok. Fair point. So, what is it the Gen Beta kids would say…? “…YMMV” (…that is, if your mileage is paved with sooie surprises). That’s the best I got.
100 points for those who thought Tough Mudder and Spartan Mud Runs were not the quickest way to get every sort of bacteria in your face all at once. (Wonder why they went bankrupt?). For those holding bottles, disregard this note.
PnPd a 500ml bottle; recent purchase from Grand Vin. Excellent condition. Bright but also savoury. Great depth of fruit but not heavy or cloying. Right in its drinking window. Paired with roast racks of lamb and peas with pancetta & sage. Great combo.

wow lots to love about this; had this vs a weathereye Estate Red Mountain Grenache 2020. this was better - more complex yet staying lighter and more medium bodied versus the grenache which was a tad blockier. pretty minerality lacing through this. wish i had more in my cellar
