The "it's like fino Sherry" remark was probably mine :) This Beaucastel white has finally come out of its "dumb" phase and doesn't have the sweet straw/hay flavours it would have a couple years ago. The bottle was musty -- not corked, but corky. Thankfully, most of the dankness below off a couple hours later. Aromas/flavours of roasted nuts, brown butter, figs and burnt sugar. Good length and long finish. I quite like elderly white CdP and this wine is showing well now.

Friday Night in Toronto (10tation Catering): Golden colour, really showing it's age. A very musty/earthy nose, with sherry notes, honey, dried figs, baking spice and toasted nuts. On the palate, moderate richness, medium acidity. Finishes quite long, but to me, almost reminiscent of a flat, over the hill Champagne. Not my cup of tea, but others were quite enamoured with it. Lots of complexity, and will be right up your alley if you are in to the heavy oxidative notes. Drink five plus years ago.

A Friday Night Toronto Wine Dinner: Heavily oxidative. Notes of salene, walnuts, dried lemon peel. Palate replays the nose identically with fresh salene, walnuts and dried lemon peel. Someone said this drinks like a fino sherry and I have to agree. I'm not really one for oxidative notes, so I didn't really love this.

Drank out of magnum, either an off mag or i am just not a fan of this particular vintage at all-wine was not balanced and way too much of bacterial/blue cheese element.

Clear and very dark gold color. Aromas of pear, ripe pineapple, candied walnuts, must, and light minerals. Medium weight. Unfortunately this wine is ten years past its prime, or just a bad bottle. Its a flabby and short on finish.
