this was awesome with a pot roast, fruit and warming baking spices, the wine is blending together so hard to pick out individual flavours, but this clean dark fruited cup, smoke and hints of leather. no sign of decline, and i will leave for another 5 years

The 2001 Cuvee du Vatican Reserve Sixteen was a wow experience for me. While I have had quite a few southern rhone wines I've have never had one quite this old but that will be changing based on this experience. This wine was rich and expresive and possibly the best $50-60 bottle I've ever had.
Nose: - Rich and round oak - leather - baking spices - dark and savory fruit
Palate: - Vibrant spiciness - well integrated between the oak, tannins, and alcohol - Bold plum - blackberry preserve
Truly and excellent bottle with no sign of tiredness or weakness that is drinking at its peak. 94

A great recent find for $30 at my local wine shop’s bargain/bin-end shelf. Must be from a cellar purchase as I can’t imagine why else they’d have a 20 yr old CdP. In any case, this bottle was in perfect shape - berries and black licorice on the nose; full bodied and a real sense of concentrated (ripe, dark) fruit. I’d buy a case if I could find it (esp at $30/btl), knowing this is on a lengthy good-drinking plateau.

Last bottle and the best bottle. Excellent mature CdP. Lot's of fruit, complexity, and elegance. Drank with braised pork shoulder. Drink.

Consistent with the last bottle. Excellent concentration but one dimensional.
