Somewhat pale cherry red color with a hint of plummy purple hue. The overall appearance is lighter and more translucent than those of vintages 2001, 2002 or 2004. Vibrant, powerful and quite sweet-toned nose with quite intense aromas of strawberries, ripe black cherries, some licorice root, a little bit of earthy sous-bois, developed hints of pruney dark fruits and dried figs and a lifted touch of sweet, balsamic VA. The wine is moderately full-bodied, ripe and sweet-toned with bright and quite opulent flavors of juicy black cherries, succulent dark plums, some strawberry tones, a little bit of developed raisiny character, a hint of licorice, light stony mineral bitterness and a touch of gunpowder smoke. The wine is moderately high in acidity with quite noticeably grippy tannic structure. The finish is long, somewhat warm and quite grippy with pretty bold and rather bitter flavors of sweet-toned dark berries, some ripe black cherries, a little bit of strawberry marmalade, a hint of raisiny character and a touch of gravelly minerality. The wine finishes on a lifted and slightly sweet balsamic note.
A noticeably sweeter and bigger example of Passopisciaro compared to the vintages 2001 and 2002. This wine seems to be more about big size and burly fruit than about the finesse and complexity more typical of Passopisciaro. With its moderately developed fruit characteristics, the wine doesn't seem as youthful as the vibrant vintage 2002, but still more youthful than the vintage 2001 that seemed to be at or very near to its plateau of maturity. I can imagine this wine will both develop and last for longer than 2001, but not as long as 2002. A fine wine by all means, but doesn't manage to reach the levels of its two older siblings.

Dark garnet in colour. Compelling aromas of ripe fruit bordering on the jammy side. Hefty prune and balsamic notes along with earthy nuances and undercurrents of iodine. Great concentration with an elegant texture, warm, sweet and long aftertaste. The oldest Nerello I have tasted proving the ageing potential of this exciting variety.

The third ever vintage of Passopisciaro.

Nearly flawless wine. Proof that Etna wines age incredibly well.
