  • Bright mahogany colour. Open nose of raisin, figs and caramel. Bright acidity, light elegance. Very concentrated with apparent figs and raisin. Very long. Impressive for 120 years. Could probably live for another 50.

  • Kicking off a big two week stretch of work with a bottle that can be enjoyed throughout it. This has bright acidity and flavors of burnt caramel, Chai tea, and candied nuts like those on my chocolate pot de crème dessert before it. A nice 30+ second evolution. This compares well to the other handful of old Madeiras I've enjoyed.

Update two months after opening the bottle. I'm raising my rating one point to 98. I think it has gained some bite and complexity with time. Just shared glasses after a 1983 Dominus and 2009 l'Evangile, capping a great night in glory.

  • Deep mahogany color with great almost painful intensity and deep flavors of molasses, roasted nuts, burnt orange, caramel and varnish. Great complexity and sweetness on the finish but truthfully, this needs another 50 years or a several day decant. Awesome potential though. 94+ At Daniel game dinner.

  • Light gold. Caramel, black tea, clove, and roast nuts on the nose. Surprisingly precise and clean, with flavors of sweet fig buoyed by bright acidity. Long finish.

  • Fuzzy edges and one dimensional finish to this bottle. Sweetness pervades the palate to an extent it need not. Not the crispest bottle
