(Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Republique - Los Angeles CA): Tasted double blind. Fully mature and ripe black fruit with lots of earth. Clearly dirty aromas, but cleaner flavors, even if not quite pristine. Good weight and richness on the mid palate that is starting to show hints of maderization. Musty aromas improved slightly with more air, but never went away. I thought it an old school Gevrey or Morey 1er from a ripe vintage. Opened in respect to Kobe Bryant’s birth year.

First bottle was good, with some funk that blew off and good fruit coming through, but second bottle had a touch of VA and the funk wouldn't leave. Fully tertiary, but the fruit is really hanging in and there's good acid. Quite liked, if not a special wine. XX+++

Upon opening (thanks to the Durand) the cork was very wet, but fortunately had no hint of TCA. Quite a bit of sediment so I double decanted the wine 1 hour prior to bringing to restaurant. An enticing smoky bouquet rises from the glass and softly lingers throughout the bottle. The wine is full-bodied and soft with a fruity and smoky palate that evolves with each sip before finishing with a soft elegance.

2013 Acker BYO at TriBeCa Grill (New York City): Bricking blood. A very lifted, sorbet-bright nose bursts right forth -- roses, wild strawberry, fabulously deep and haunting -- wowy!! The palate is less amazing but still really good; sweet cherry fruit, quite zippy, tangy acidity, and grippy tannins. Good length. Really an excellent wine, impeccably balanced.

Animal, dark cherry, wet leaves, hint of fennel pollen. Pure fruit on the palate, great intensity
