From magnum and paired with a magnum of 83 La Tache and the table was split. This started out a little funky and needed some time to blow off. After that a core of red berry fruit with good structure and acidity. Darker than the La Tache and drinking younger with a bit more fruit to balance the structure. While my personal preference was the LT given the insane nose and texture on that wine this Engel was right there with it.

02388/3000. Sour cherry, balanced citrus, fig, bergamot, primrose, dried leaves, earthy truffle, green grass, hearty ethereal spice. Super clean, aromatic and lifted; Vosne-like sweet spice lingering at the throat. Very much alive and singing. 95

I would not of guessed this wine was 32 years old had it been served blind. On the nose: Maraschino cherries, tobacco, cedar, and some baking spice( cloves) the tertiary notes were there, but I would of thought the wine was 15-20 years old. It was pleasure to drink an Engel wine since they are getting rarer to find.
