I studied this over several days and was entranced by its evolution. It came out of the bottle real tight with a strong garden hose aroma. With air, the plastic faded and I was left with a funky Nahe minerality. It was enjoyable but it felt like a chore to drink with the wall of acid and non-primary aromatics. On the last day it became downright gluggable, once the tangerine and grapefruit notes poked through the strongest and the acid was a little more tolerable. This is great now or in another 5 years.

Seriously delicious. Pure and vibrant with a potethera of fruit on the palate alongside the obvious acid and minerality. Just a whiff of tertiaries. Outstanding quality, will be good (and continue to get better) for many years to come.

(Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Grosses Gewächs) ($66.00) A serious bomb of fruit, charcuterie, mineral; profound and open; stern, voluminous, statuesque. Quite martial for the normally womanly Dellchen. I hedge the second “plus” for concern I’m underrating it. +(+)

Lovely citrus (blood orange and grapefruit), slatey minerals, concentrated yet lithe. Ripe fruit sweetness but long dry finish. A-

No formal notes. Still young but delicious.
