A Bordeaux blend of Cab Sauvignon (71%) and Merlot (29%). Dark cranberry-cherry red color (nearly opaque) in the glass with aromas of earthiness, leather, ripe plums, tobacco and cassis. On the palate, medium to full bodied mouthfeel, however intensity of fruit flavors are somewhat disappointing in view of the wine’s Grand Cru Classe status, age (2005) and price. Acidity is within acceptable range. Finish is OK. QPR of this wine is on the med range of scale at best.

This was something of a disappointment, given the price and vintage. Color not showing the age at all, a full nose of blackberry, tobacco, and other savory notes, and then a bit of a one-act play on the palate. A classic, unmistakable Medoc flavor, and then . . . Nothing. No complexity, character, or backbone - which, again, was a bit disappointing given the pedigree and price. Was totally outshone at dinner (paired with beef bourguignon) by a West Sonoma Coast wine that cost about 60% of the Lynch-Moussas. Meh.
Unmistakably Pauillac. Clear, straightforward nose. Deep colour with no more than expected browning. Not the most complex or fine on the palate. A bit firm. Holding up well.

Lighter than expected both in colour and nose, given the 2005 wine year in Bordeaux. Some harsh tones at the start after opening of the bottle but evolves nicely however not giving the power and depth of a real Pauillac wine. Elegant taste but slightly bitter in the end, not sure this will be completely absorbed.

Mature, but not “old”. Opened an hour before dinner, but did not decant. Served with a pomegranate glazed lamb loin chop, lentils, and rice. Color was deep and showing almost no age. Nose is complex; leather, earth, dark fruit, and ash. Mouth is remarkably balanced, bright fruit, no heat, and you know the acidity and tannins are there, but not at all assertive. A lovely wine, and a gift for which I am thankful.
