Funky nose that needed 15 min in the decanter to blow off all kinds of VA, brett, reduction and what have you. Then came in his own. Lots of garrigue, farmyard funk and earthy elements intermixed with red fruit, blueberry and spice. 14% Alc, they did not go overboard with the alc luckily

ESTG does Pegau-Palooza (Seattle, WA, USA): White pepper, TANNINS, so, so spicy, so structured. This particular bottle is unusually tannic, reserved and powerful. There was a lot of debate about this wine, because many of us have had MANY bottles of the 2004 which is usually quite opulent and approachable. The general structure and reserve of this particular bottle was unusual, as none of us have ever encountered a closed bottle before. All that said, I revisited the last few ounces on day 2, and this remained fresh, powerful and shockingly structured.

Deep dark crimson color. Intensely sweet red fruit and a hint of smoke on the nose. Similar tasting notes - sweet, mildly smoky strawberrries and sweet red plums on the nose.

Blind, 3 hour decant. Garnet in the glass. Not much nose, for me.
Not many notes to this one. Thought it was a Syrah with the mild pepper notes. Didn't seem Grenache to me. My bad. Just didn't do a whole lot to float my boat. Again, probably just my palate.

(Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée) Very dark red violet color; deep cherry, black cherry, plum nose; youthful, plush, tart berry, cherry, licorice, baked plum palate with sweet tannins; medium-plus finish 94+ pts.
(DOMAINE PEGAU DU PAPE RED) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-complex & exciting; cabbage & Brussel sprout covered by huuge vanilla component; dark black licorice; & some wild cassis; TASTE-Wow!! This wine is kicking serious ass; hugely complex; enormous amounts of bacon & leather; blueberry pie till your touching the sky; loaded w/ fresh berries; Vanilla for days; very luscious; huge mouthfeel; massive attack; beautiful firm ripe tannins, but covered w/ so much fruit & complexity; seamless mid-palate; structure; long, long finish; well-rounded; will last for 10+ years, but is approachable now; not cheap, but serious wine; elegance & refinement; tremendous effort; balance & harmony; RP-94; GV-94+
