Decanted for an hour. The nose is really nice, with smoky red fruit, sour cherries and even a hint of tomato paste. The palate is dominated by racy acidity, strong tannins, red fruit with good minerality. Everything you could wish for in a Mencia, in an excellent spot right now.

Decanted for an hour. This has the typical racey red fruit I associate with Mencia, but also a bit of mocha and smoke. The palate shows nice tannins and burning red fruit. There seems to be a hint of cork taint here, so I will not score the wine, if it were not for that, I'd say this is ripe and ready and should be rather nice.

Nose: red fruits, meat, earth, spices, nice Taste: medium bodied, medium tannins, medium+ acidity, red currant, cherry, wild berry, earth, unfortunately short with very strange and unpleasant finish of sauerkraut, VA? too old?

Wish those who wrote reviews would give scores based on the Community rating guide...many give no scores. Not as good as prior vintages, but decent, not outstanding. Second night was a bit better. Agree earthy and really dark fruit. First night was thin, second was a little more grippy. First night 86, second night 88, averages to 87. On the fence as to buying more. It was interesting, but we are a Rioja family when it comes to Spanish wines.

So beautiful at this point - nose well balanced between oak, cherry, cinnamon, cocoa and rose hip, on the palate well balanced mix of stir-fried yellow onion, black pepper, black currant and blackberries, with a hint of dairy. Quite thick, medium+ length, intense.
