Well this has come into its own since my last bottle 4 years ago. A deep, savory nose with earth, heme, savory herbal notes, and dark pinot fruit. On the palate, it's broad yet giving with the suppleness of '02 that plays beautifully with the house style and its terroir. This is a wine of contrasts that add to a greater whole. Sapid, deep, broad and powerful yet simultaneously fleshy and so well balanced that it just effortless expands over the palate without any heaviness. Power delivered with a soft hand. I love the meaty savory notes of this wine. Drinking at a beautiful peak with what I suspect is plenty of time in hand, but it's really good right now. Carpe diem.

Translucent glowing garnet color. Classic, complex but clean Burgundian bouquet. Beautiful mouthfeel with an ethereal weightlessness yet packs plenty of punch of red fruits of raspberry and cranberry. A little dry age beef and mushroom. Seamless from start to finish. Very nice and a great pairing with Christmas roast prime rib.

Medium garnet color with a slightly brown rim (ullage was excellent). Tasted blind next to a 2000 Sine Qua Non pinot noir (grapes from Shea Vineyard in Oregon but bottled in CA). Both were excellent and complex. The SQN was slightly more aged but was Burdundian in style. The Chevillon had dark fruit and complex aromas of roasted meat, blackberries, and spices with a long finish. It maintained its complexity and fruit expression for about 2 hours (until most of us had finished our glasses). This wine is excellent at this point in time as long as it has been well stored.

{Purchased on release, sound cork, about 3-4 mm ullage; tasted with LT and JL at dinner} Rich, classy, floral yet earthy nose; on palate iron-earth black and red fruits, earthy loam, lots of NSG spiciness; great length and sophisticated finish. Just wonderful (and a great match for umami-rich food). Ready to drink but (at least as judged by this bottle!) no rush to consume. Much better than I had anticipated it would be.

NSG Central Tasting (Chicago): An interesting nose that ranges from smoky and savory to fruity and floral as it evolves in the glass. Only a moderate amount of fruit, especially for a 2002, leaves the palate fighting its spine of structure for balance. Just good, this would be so much better with another notch or two of fruit density.
