  • Popped and poured. 88% Pinot Noir, 12% Chardonnay, 49% from Sonoma, 29% from Mendocino, 15% Napa, 7% Marin county fruit from the North Coast AVA. 24% barrel fermented, with 9.2 g/L of dosage.

Pale gold in the glass, with fine bubbles throughout. On the nose it leaps out at you with sea spray, dried tropical fruits, and almond confections. Really delicious and complex nose that I could smell for hours. On the palate it’s got orange, ripe peach, yellow pear, and ginger/Christmas spice. It’s medium bodied, with medium high acidity. The finish is long, crisp, and minerally.

Delicious and a perfect complement to completing a master’s degree. Certainly one of the premier sparkling wines from the US.

  • Seductively complex across the spectrum. Undercurrent fruit impressions not unlike the blue in a Monet watercolor. Upfront enticing mineral hazelnut perception of sweet dough. Crisp bubbles, a true Brut. Can dance with Champagnes sold for 3x the price. A votre sante.

  • Eye: A very pale yellow center with a nearly transparent rim. The bubbles and very small, and flow rapidly in several delicate streams.

Nose: Almond pastry, poached pears and apples. A little toast and roasted nuts.

Palate: The nose carries over to the palate. There is a hint of crushed blackberries and some crème de cassis. The acidity is tight but well moderated. The bubbles are delicate and pleasant. Some lemon and green apple.

Finish: Medium length. Lingering acidity and dark berries. There is a tiny touch of lingering umami, which I find fascinating.

Overall: I love Schramsberg. They just continue to completely blow me away.

  • In terms of fruit, baked pear laced with wild forest berries. Mineral layer, fine yeast and bakery notes. The palate was mostly acidity-driven, lacking harmony.

  • Another outstanding sparkling wine from Schramsberg. Hard to say which I like better (Blanc de Blanc or Blanc de Noirs). They are both outstanding!
