Wow. Wine was electric - a very real tension between primary and secondary evolution (with only a whiff of tertiary on the nose). Pure GC nose of earth, saddle leather and ripe bing cherry. Palate had wonderful balance of acidity, tannin and vibrant red fruit. Tannins were pleasantly forward and alive - this wine is a testament to great winemaking, old vines and the beauty of terroir. It's not a grand cru, but it was a grand bottle; this shames 90% of Burgundy village wines. Drink it if you're lucky or hold it a few more years if you're luckier. Bravo!

Rich and meaty, great palate density and volume, oak treatment is perceptible but beautifully blended and complements the rich, clean and savory fruit aromatic profile! Highly recommended

Done in a structured and more rustic style. Definitely less charm compared to the Truchot MSD & RE VR & Brulees. May yet get better with more bottle-age...

Engel and Truchot dinner at Jade Palace. Flight 1 with the Truchot MSD VV 99, Engel Vosne 99, Engel Brulees 98. Dark inky color, heavy extraction on the nose with dark currants, soy, cedar, black tea and a heavily roasted character. On the palate, the extraction followed through. Overripe, dark fruited, wood, tar and burnt meat. Not my type of Burgundy, but this has the depth and power of a 1er. (Most of us guessed this was the Brulees).

(Serafin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes) Expanisve nose of cherries, smoke, roses, crushed violets, raspberries, game, earth. Lush in the mouth with nice bitter cherry in midpalate and layers of concentrated silky sweet fruit. Tannic on the finish with a hint of spearmint on the finish. This will be ideal in 3 years.
