This is in a really good place right now. There should be no need for continued cellar time, though it won't kill it. Very nice floral, tobacco and spice. Tannins are where they should be on an 18 year old barolo. Not for everyone, but I quite enjoyed this bottle.

Clear medium garnet color. Clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of cedar, toast, nutmeg, leather and forest floor. This wine is fully developed. On the palate it is dry with medium acidity, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, medium plus body, medium flavor intensity of leather, forrest floor, cedar, and dried cranberry. The finish is medium. Good wine that should be drunk now, I don't think that it should be aged any further.

Dinner at Birch. I have never tasted this producer before so I was quite curious . Deep dark crimson red. Little shy on the nose but opened up during the two hours in the decanter. Very focused on the palate; minerals, tobacco, roses and dark red fruit. Intense yet balanced, smooth. Silky tannins.

Classic Barolo. Roses, tar, tobacco, cherry, tannin. Seamless. Ready to go but years ahead of it.
