Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): Off the wine list at Dulcis Vitis. Always fun to find some aged champagne - while Piemonte is definitely one of the best champagne lists I’ve seen in general I’d say it skews more towards the new age of growers than some of the traditional houses with age. This was drinking quite nicely. Nice and a bit toasty and nutty and all of that.

Medium gold with very little tiny bubbles. Intense aged nose with gingerbread, old wood cabinet, lemon, nuts. Medium body, with little sparkle, intense flavours of lemon and candied lemon, ginger, savoury, slightly oxidised. still very high acidity. excellent length. Very good aged champagne in excellent conditions. Much better than the bottle I had 3 yrs ago.

Plums and red apples in a nice combination on this mature showing bottle. Opens up with a delicious butterscotch touch both on the nose and the lengthy finish, but at the same time some of the freshness of 1995’s is missing, and it feels more like a 1996 with its acidic focus. Despite it all it was drinking very well, especially with grilled corn fed chicken breast. (Best 2010-2025)

Mature but not oxidative. Toasted nuts, brioche. Everything I enjoy in a mature champagne.
