Not a producer I buy regularly, and something I forgot I had in the cellar. Pulled it with little idea what to expect, except a vague idea of '05s being better for higher sweetness levels. Opened to find a really enjoyable bottle of wine! Expressive aromas of toasted almonds and stone fruits with just a touch of petrol. Very pleasant to drink, with good balance, and vibrancy. A bit on the darkly sweet side on the attack, but it's an illusion as this continues totally dry. Good body and a satisfying finish. Always happy to find an orphan in the cellar that surprises to the upside.

Medium gold. Not very intense nose. There is some minerality along with other typical riesling aromas. Something that reminds me of musk? I think I would rather have it younger. Elegant, understated with sweet mouth. More nouanced than the new world riesling that we tasted that evening, more reserved but more elegant.

2007 German Dry Wine Tour w/Rudi Wiest (The Wine Country, Signal Hill, CA): (Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Huge complex nose of yellow fruit. Very clean tasting, rocky, salty yellow fruit. Great complexity. Very good acid. Long complex finish. Extraordinarily interesting fruit. The winemaker said aging potential of at least 12-15 years.

Very nice spatlese-like nose. Palate is dry and to my taste a bit on the thin side.
Good wine.
