Lovely from the off. Soaring nose or darker fruits initially, with some smoke notes, then towards red fruits and a cleaner fruitier style. Slightly coarse/grainy on the palate perhaps the giveaway for it's relatively lowly AOC status, but basically just lovely. Why we drink burgundy.

Marsannay @ Vinotecca (Vinoteca, Smithfield, London): Quite a full, bacon fat and black olive nose. Dense, quite rich and round. Serious wine. Has calmed down a bit from a few years back, and indeed after a while in the glass it becomes more Burgundy than Cote Rotie. Very good indeed. ****

Youthful appearance - medium/deep ruby core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows rich red fruit, distinct note of sesame seed, vanilla, some rich earth. Medium/full bodied on the palate, rich, ripe fruit, sesame seed prominent again, vanilla, plush, soft tannins, decent acidity, good length finish. Decent enough, indeed enjoyable but being critical a little simple and also over-oaked for my taste.

Beautiful aromatically with spicy, forest berries and some strawberries. Really weak and flat on the palate but really well-made for its' class. A job well done! Drink it up asap if you have any.

This bottle seemed very harshly oaked, you can tell there's some good fruit in here, but it's a bit hard to get to in this instance
