The fruit was rather subdued over the past couple of years, but this 01 is certainly back in the game. Good acidity well integrated with the fruit. Abundant soft tannins…. this could go for another 10 years. Shame it’s my last bottle. Very elegant and classic. Asian spice. Forest floor and all that stuff.

Hmmmm. Flatters a little, disappoints a little. This should have much more stuffing and depth for the price; what it lacks is what defines this wine. It has all the round, soft pinot elements that you start to get at this age in a wine, but it lacks nuance, it lacks tannins and it lacks a bit of "otherness" that comes with a 16 year old Burg. In and of itself its a decent wine, but slap the price tag on it and you start thinking "maybe I should have gone for that bottle of £15 Cotes du Rhone instead?"

Dinner at 28-50 (28-50): Very sweet, almost cough-syrupy cherries on the nose, with notes of vanilla and pine forest, maybe some herbs and roast meat? Palate is hollow, savory, showing plenty of acid, some iron, a bit of tannin. This is either shutdown or (more likely I think) just not very good.

Spicy, red berries, softened tannins, hints of plum.
