A delicious bottle that is fairly mature, though, still with enough tannins that it’s worth decanting. Classic cote rotie on the animal side, but not too sauvage . The only thing that held us back from another point or two is a relative lack of acidity; by the end of an hour and a half was starting to feel a little bit flabby.

Stored at 55-65°F since release. Cork showed minimal seepage at the inner surface only. The color is medium dark garnet and brickish. The aroma is savage and wild like raw beef, tar, cedar, cranberry, rose petals and incense smoke. Tannins are tight and grippy.

Dark berries, violets, pepper, blackberries, and black olives on the nose. There are lots of tannins, but they are quite soft. More dark berries, dark fruit, meat, and savory notes on the palate. A very interesting Cote Rotie that’s drinking quite well right now. Oak is noticeable but not distracting.

Couleur grenat amarante.
